Out of the Past (1947) directed by Jacques Tourneur.

Finding a more perfect noir movie than Out of the Past is a challenge destined for failure. This 1947 movie features the eternal Robert Mitchum, a not-yet famous Kirk Douglas, and a splendid Jane Greer in a complex story full of twists that ends in a surprising way.

I highly recommend this movie, a true work of art which features so many cigarettes being smoked that I thought I was going to get pulmonary cancer through the screen.

Always remember, when they sang the French National Anthem (La Marseillaise), France was occupied by the Nazis in real life. Those people had no idea if they would ever had a chance to see their homeland again or even if Europe would ever pacify. Not many people think about that, but in my opinion it puts the whole scene, if not the whole movie, under a much different and much more real light.

Way before my time. In the mid 80's our unit visited Arnhem on the anniversary. We attended the service, visited the museum, hit the town, our money was absolutely worthless. Had the allies not intervened, likely the Nazi's would have destroyed all yet the people kept faith...

Not 100% accurate, but close...

Yes you should all watch, lest we forget the evil that man brings to man for no good reason...

I know the movie quite well..saw it at the cinema when it came out with my dad (a WW2 vet).. Such a well made movie. Thanks for that..as I don't think I've seen that poster before

Brings to mind - the Longest Day..another big star movie as well.

We were crushed, as no bar, hotel or restaurant would take our money. We were there for the remembrance service for the fallen, nothing more, nothing less. It was an honour...

Same time period visited Bergan Belsen & Dachau. All what people say is true, such place's are unnervingly silent. Such horrors occurred at the hands of weak men & women on the innocent. I dont regret, equally I'd never want to visit again. Thankfully we live in a better & different world...

First two films are decent third in the trilogy is pretty weak and not really worth the time. First two are entertaining enough as long as you dont think too much, best served with cold beer LOL.

Interesting films. I did see a similar themed, albeit WW I, movie some days ago, with the title Bunker.

Than, there was Trench 11 (WW I), and another horror movie titled Frankenstein's Army (WW II).

Nazis at the Centre of the Earth
Death Ship
Ghost Ship
Overlord
Nazi Overlord
The Devils Rock
The Keep
War of the Dead

Likely a good few more. Should keep you out of trouble for a while LOL. Varies from decent themed films to trash, equally you dont watch such films for the intellectual content.

Speak of the Devil, media server just randomly served up Ghost Ship (2002)

It's been up for over a year, so think a reboot might be in order as it's getting a little odd and it's one of the infamous 2011 15" MBP's. Yet it's been running 24/7 for literally years on end.

Why wouldn't they take your money?
I've only had that once in a bar in Aussie ..every time I got up to pay my round, I got shoved back in my seat and someone else would pay. Still dunno why??

Respect for the fallen and we were there for full ceremonial parade. I doubt much has changed over the years as being under the boot of the Nazis was obviously not a good experience...

LOL, it's just getting old and I should probably restart it more frequently. Yet yet it works 95% of the time so see no need to replace. TBH it's seen off some of it's potential replacements over the years. June/July we plan to move house so will likely shut it down then.

The 1965 remake is also a powerful production, but I like this version a touch more...

The 1935 film is now available in colour thx to AI and TBH it works as it's consistent and feels period correct.

Puts me in mind of the giant woman in 'dude, where's your car?'.
