Agreed, this maybe an expectations issue, but I think the movie previews illustrates what kind of movie it is and apparantly a majority of the people who bothered to review it, liked it by a significant margin. 🙂

It's the same with Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. It's different from the mainstream Star Trek films, so it must be bad. But, it is surprisingly engaging.

Battle Beyond the Sun (1959/1962)

Battle Beyond the Sun (1962) is the English-dubbed and re-edited American version of the 1959 Soviet film Nebo Zovyot (The Heavens Call). Acquired by Roger Corman and reworked by a young Francis Ford Coppola, the film relocates its Cold War “space race” to a fictional future where rival nations—North Hemis and South Hemis—compete to reach Mars first. When one crew’s mission goes awry, their rivals risk their own flight to attempt a daring rescue near the Martian moons, where strange cosmic dangers await.

"The Investigation of Lucy Letby"

Unseen footage and unheard insider accounts reveal the harrowing and divisive Case of Lucy Letby, the neonatal nurse convicted of fatally harming (killing) (13) infants.

True crime footage but definitely disturbing and really no twists or surprises but the basic case.

From an IMDB review: "The crimes themselves are heinous, diabolical, beyond comprehension - yet she simply does not present as a killer. I know there is no "type", but her sheer ordinariness is troubling, and that contradiction sits at the heart of this story."

First movie I've seen where AI was used to alter some of the real victims to protect their anonymity.

Showing on Netflix. I personally find no reason to recommend this movie unless you are a real true crime junkie and are purely curious.

"The Most Hated Man on the Internet"

I'm into weird documentaries lately...actually, my sister told me to watch this one; I will seriously consider her recommendations from now on.

A true story about Hunter Moore, a self-proclaimed "professional life ruiner" who ran a website called "Is Anyone Up" where he hacked into people's computers/phone, found R-rated photography and videos and posted them along with all the persons personal information including the directions to their home, their phone number, etc. The content got more and more vile as he got more popular and started making a ton of money off this site. One of his victim's mother went after him, eventually getting the FBI involved and all that took place after.

Not relaxing, not for the weak of heart, not recommended. In three parts on Netflix.

I rewatched Lord of the Rings the other day on my apple tv and added them to my physical media collection.

I also thought i try the polar bear king while i wait for send help and the new Avatar to be released on digital and physical media.

Pitch Black (2000)

When their ship crash-lands on a remote planet, the marooned passengers soon learn that escaped convict Riddick isn't the only thing they have to fear. Deadly creatures lurk in the shadows, waiting to attack in the dark, and the planet is rapidly plunging into the utter blackness of a total eclipse. With the body count rising, the doomed survivors are forced to turn to Riddick with his eerie eyes to guide them through the darkness to safety. With time running out, there's only one rule: Stay in the light.

“Tracks”, watched it last night.
A solid 8/10, well scripted and acting.
True story from 1970’s account.

Not my review, but I 100% agree

“To be honest at first this movie didn't seem like it would be interesting to sit through for almost 2 hours. A girl walks across the desert with her camels, what's interesting about that? Well if you go into this movie thinking that, you'll come out pleasantly surprised.
At every turn there is something new and unexpected that happens. The challenges that Robyn faced on her journey were incredible.
This film was based on a true story and was adapted from a book. Mia Wasikowska's acting was superb, it really took you on a journey. From start to finish this film was visually spectacular. The vast Australian outback was stunning and amazing to see on screen.
I would recommend this film to anyone is up for an inspirational story.”

Nosferatu (2024)
1772298455597.png

A gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake. Robert Eggers made a significant impression with his directorial debut The Witch (2015), continues to impress. As with the original 1922 film & Werner Herzog's 1979 remake, Nosferatu generally honour's the source material albeit at a slow pace. Visually impressive with impeccable attention to detail with a palpable feeling of dread...
