Just finished watching all five Daniel Craig Bond movies again; people will say what they will about "James Blond", but I think Craig was excellent in the role...
Agreed. Took me a while to get used to the change of direction, but I think they are good movies.

Mixed about this one, somewhat slow but engaging, very little action but the violence is quick and to the point, the supernatural stuff could've been more and it's told from the perspective of, I will have to find out about how to add the spoiler button lol.

Our yearly watching of 1776 for the US Independence Day. A quite funny take on the writing of the Declaration of Independence in play form.

John Adams to God: “A second flood, a simple famine, plagues of locusts everywhere, or a cataclysmic earthquake, I'd accept with some despair. But no, you sent us Congress! Good God, Sir, was that fair?!”

Cloverfield (2008)
1781306934254.png

Five young New Yorkers throw their friend a going-away party the night that a monster the size of a skyscraper descends upon the city. Told from the point of view of their video camera, the film is a document of their attempt to survive the most surreal, horrifying event of their lives. Has the too much shacky cam for my liking but not a bad watch for a film of the found footage genre. Want the best Blair Witch with the right cut still has the crown, the OG VHS is hard to beat... Was a time and a place.

this movie started my love for found footage movies. I was enamored ever since I first saw the trailer. What a film, I wish the sequels expanded more on the idea, the extended universe and ARGs are great , but movies, live action or animated, would be great

Mimic Directors Cut (1997)
1783711722980.png

For thousands of years, man has been evolution’s greatest creation… until now. Three years ago, entomologist Dr. Susan Tyler genetically created an insect to kill cockroaches carrying a virulent disease. Now, the insects are out to destroy their only predator, mankind. Love how the first half essentially plays out like a film noir. Even if the second half regresses to a more traditional horror creature feature.

The Replacement Killers (1998)
1783712269745.png

What if an action movie was directed by a music video director? Well, you get this. Hired assassin John Lee is asked by Chinatown crime boss Terence Wei to murder the young son of policeman Stan Zedkov. Lee has the boy in his sights, but his conscience gets the better of him, and he spares the child’s life.

Afraid that Wei will take revenge on his family in China, Lee seeks out expert forger Meg Coburn to obtain the passport he needs to get out of the country, but a band of replacement killers is soon on his trail. Chow Yun-Fat looks cool as usual, Mira Sorvino steals this movie. She has that, intense presence that's hard to describe. This one always go with the DC...

Angel Heart (1987)
1783715546121.png

In 1955 New Orleans, small-time private investigator Harry Angel is hired by a man who calls himself Louis Cypher to track down a singer named Johnny Favourite, but the investigation takes an unexpected and sombre turn. While getting on is still a worthy watch, probably for the better now. Angel Heart has one of the more twisted revelations I've ever seen. Dont look it up, just watch....

Watched both The Martian and Project Hail Mary.

Only quibble was trying to hold in the atmosphere in the habitat on Mars with plastic film and duct tape. Somebody didn't do their maths about pressure per square inch multiplied by the total area.
Also, there was nothing wrong with the boss lady's music...

Love both the novels and the film, haven't seen Hail Mary... yet.

I have wondered about that bit in The Martian.

Last and First Men (2020)
1784003054064.png

As the end approaches inexorably, the last humans, living millions of years into the future, send a message to the humanity of the present that is both a plea for help and a warning, but also an epic tale of evolution, decline and hope. For better or worse Last and First Men is a visual novel, yet there is something distinctly haunting about it...

"Great are the stars, and man is of no account to them. But man is a fair spirit, whom a star conceived and a star kills. He is greater than those bright blind companies. For though in them there is incalculable potentiality, in him there is achievement, small, but actual. Too soon, seemingly, he comes to his end. But when he is done he will not be nothing, not as though he had never been; for he is eternally a beauty in the eternal form of things."

Possession (1981)

A woman starts exhibiting increasingly disturbing behaviour after asking her husband for a divorce. Suspicions of infidelity soon give way to something much more sinister. Truly a decent into madness and beyond. RIP Sam Neill...
