In a seedy bar in a town ravaged by war, scientist and businessman Hunt hires mercenary and former Royal Marine D.C. to assemble a crack team of ex-soldiers to protect him on a dangerous journey into no-man’s land. Their mission is to scope out an old military bunker in Eastern Europe. It should be easy – 48 hours at the most. Lots of cash for little risk. Or so he says… Best of the trilogy.

Not as good as the first film, far better than the third entry which is best avoided.

They were all drawn to the keep. Tonight, they will all face the evil. Set during World War II, a German army garrison is sent to guard a mountain pass in a village in Romania’s Carpathian mountains and sets up barracks in an ancient stone fortress. Two of the soldiers unwittingly release a mysterious entity that kills or corrupts those within its influence, drawing the attention of a Gestapo commander, a Jewish scholar, and a mysterious traveller.

Butchered in the edit by the studio, so if you've not read the book can be confusing. Would love to watch Michael Mann's original intention, however that time has long since passed.

Underwater (2020)

A crew of oceanic researchers working for a deep sea drilling company try to get to safety after a mysterious earthquake devastates their deep-water research and drilling facility located at the bottom of the Mariana Trench. Underwater splits the difference between classic disaster movies & Lovecraftian horror, a film out of its time. Ridely Scott's Alien it's not, but it's a lot better than the usual Sci-Fi/Horror offerings these days.

Studios rarely take such risks with big budget productions. They far prefer to churn out safe PG 13 snooze fests, built on known franchise's wrapped up in endless CGI... Underwater looks a lot more than it cost to produce, and makes for a very decent B Movie with action from the start to the end with a ton of plot holes... Is a compelling watch as long as your expectations are balanced.

Each man recognizes and respects the ability and the dedication of the other even though they are aware their cat-and-mouse game may end in violence. Never gets old...

The Odyssey was incredible

all the hubbub about casting didn't matter at all the story was paramount.

the part with the sirens song was haunting.

it was long but it the pacing was pretty fast.

After a renowned Russian psychologist is brought in to evaluate the commander’s mental state, it becomes clear that something dangerous may have come back to Earth with him… Starts slow but once it kicks into high gear you'll know about it. Not as derivative as some would think and has a tremendous score.

I don't remember the score, but remember generally enjoying this film. The setting at the very least was unique in comparison to the usual these films get. I always loved soviet or nazi germany occult-themed fiction, so this felt close to my tastes, even if it's sci-fi.
