IMO Seashore is the closest alternative to MS Paint. Nice interface with an extra features not found in Paint.

I'll have to try this, though unfortunately it looks like Gimp to me, which is too complicated, hehe. I have the hardest time just drawing lines in it because Gimp wants to connect them and bend them and twist them, and then I can't figure out how to make the line stay and not disappear! Argh! I'm just too dumb for anything but paint, at least when it comes to creating images for my Algorithms homework in LaTeX. :D

Thief 1, 2, and 3.

God, I loved those games. VPC can run Theif 1, but 2 is a no go.

I think the only thing that makes people not completely switch is the gaming. I would love to never have to boot windows again. But I feel my dark side calling me...

Seashore looks a bit more powerful/difficult (depending on your perspective) than paint, but I'm learning about photoshop/illustrator in one of my classes, so I should be able to figure this one out.

I can't say I miss Google Earth, because I never had it, let's say I want it!
Google Earth really rocks! If only they would release it for Mac...

Games games games... half life 2... gta... rise of nations (PC version is better than the Mac port)...

That's the only reason I have a PC (other than testing websites in IE, which could be done in VirtualPC).

Google says that they are "working on it" but that message hasn't changed for months.

DVD Profiler - http://www.dvdprofiler.com
Delicious Library is a cool app but it doesn't replace DVD Profiler

Games - you know

MS SQL Manager - this is actually a very good GUI db manager, but then maybe I'm just used to it. I still haven't found a MySQL GUI manager that I like as well.

Google Earth - I use this sometimes to teach high school geography

Google Talk - I like it

Quickbooks - the Mac version has always lagged behind the PC version

regarding photoshop actions & plugins:

finally found the answer: actions work an both platforms.

as an action is a series of instructions to photoshop in an encoded text file, so it is not platform dependent.

great plus for me potential switcher.

but dont know about plugins yet ... anybody knows?

Lotus Ami Pro/Word Pro is the only real thing I miss but a free 5250/3270 terminal emulator would be good but IBM doesn't have one for Mac.

powerdvd and regionfree.

i know how to make my mac's drive region free, but this is my first mac, i really like it, and i'm paranoid about something going wrong if i try to flash the drive. so that's out.

i'm mostly annoyed by the apple dvd player. i miss the time bar in powerdvd. i know vlc has one, but it's flaky on my mac, so complain complain complain.

edit: obviously i'm new to mac's; is there a time bar in the apple dvd player and i'm just not finding it? that would make me look dumb, but i'm happy to look dumb in this case.

i miss the blue screen program... it was so much fun having to restart my computer 5-10 times a day. im sure microsoft loved it too because they didnt let anybody uninstall it. AND on top of that, it seems like most programs just had it built in. ahhhhhh those crappy windows days.

I shall take it that you don't see the blue screen when you boot-up your OSX. And the joy of restarting more than 5x in a day just amuses me further. ;)

the blue screen when i boot up my os x is pretty and lets me know im about to have a good computer-using experience. the windows blue screen makes me enraged.

haven't read all the threads

but a really great Resume Maker Pro software like the windows one. NOTHING for mac exists like that. Mock interviews, guides in writing the best resume and cover letters, how to answer questions during phone or in person interviews! great.

I've spoken to the company Individual Software and they have no desire to make a mac version. If anyone can contact someone to create a app like resume maker deluxe it would be amazing on mac.

Lotus Improv - died a death on Windows a long time ago, but ahead of its time - a Mac version would have been a killer app.
Xara X - so much easier to use than Illustrator (and I'm an Illustrator fan).
Google Earth - never used it but have just realised I'm missing it already thanks to Mcmillan and Pcmacuser!
As for Paint, I don't even let my students use it......quelle horreur

Xara is pleased to announce that it intends to make its flagship graphics product, Xara X (in its latest and greatest incarnation, Xara Xtreme), Open Source. Xara is also working to bring it to the Linux and Mac platforms.

Xara Xtreme on the Mac
Ironically, given the dominance of the Mac in graphic design circles, there is no mass-market, high performance, easy-to-use graphic-design tools available for the Mac. For more than 10 years, we've had a continuous stream of Mac users asking, begging, that we port Xara X to their platform. By Open Sourcing the product we believe this is now a practical, realistic prospect.

With the likely elimination of Macromedia Freehand by the Adobe acquisition, Expression being acquired by Microsoft (who are unlikely to create any new Mac versions), this leaves the Mac platform with just a single serious player in this space - Adobe Illustrator. This near monopoly is not good for the Mac platform. We hope that Xara Xtreme on the Mac will change the graphics landscape for Mac users.

Open Source Xara Xtreme

Of course, it's not available yet. But it's a start.
