13" nTB. 0000A033

Liking it?

Guys please also state whether or not you're happy with your machine and notably the screen too

I know it's subjective and within eye of beholder but better than no data/info

Thanks!

I just happen to have two nearly identical 13" tMBP. I'm returning a 256 GB for a 512 GB. I noticed a difference in the screen nearly immediately. Hoping it was just the newer screen needing some 'burn in'. I found this thread and pulled the info. Same manufacturer but different different models. I have one A033, 512 GB, and a A034, the 256 GB.

As you can see, the A044 is bluer or cooler. I prefer. But unless you're looking at them side by side, you don't really notice the difference.

Both are manufacturer 610

Side by side. The A044 of the left and the A033 on the right.

And side by side again. Identical pic as above.

A033 looks more yellow and dim

That may not be universal though to a033 just your build. Too small a sample to say but interesting nonetheless thanks!

Also all screens say Mfr of 610. You have two separate panels by two separate manufacturers.

Who makes which ones? Who knows.

I'd say LG for sure and maybe Samsung for the 2nd one or sharp since it's Foxconn I dunno.

Too bad ifixit or someone can't dig deeper. I'm always curious

The section of white displayed on the A034 looks near perfect to me where the section on A033 looks not only warmer, but less even. If the section on A034 is representative of the whole screen, I think you won the screen lottery with this one.

its odd actually in side by side a034 looks whiter and brighter, but on individual, a034 looks dim and dingy?

I dunno, I think this further confirms model doesn't matter as much as individual unit

however, seems theres a few unhappy a033 people, could be luck of draw completely

I've seen one "perfect" display on an instore 13" TB model, and that had a A033 panel.

I think it's just dumb luck, as you say thadoggfather.

Does your screen really look that yellow at the bottom to your eyes? What other defects are you seeing across the board on in store models?

I tried photographing mine with that uniformity picture, and it does appear a bit dim and dingy at the bottom which isn't representative of what I see, and still not showing up the photo anywhere near as much as yours

mine is as close to perfect as I've seen :D

I had to try to screen grab what my camera looked like on video mode to get the most accurate shot of an all white screen,w which still isn't the way it looks to my eye

these P3 screens are tough to photograph (in addition to maybe being defect prone, uniformity wise) and there is an easy color shift off axis (but not fading like those crappy MacBook Air panels), but thats fine by me since I'm always right in front of my machine, typing

I think my 7+ and 9.7 pro have color shift off axis too, also P3 screens

Mine's A033 and I'm pretty happy with it. It's a bit warm for my liking, but all 2016 MBPs seem to have warm screens. It's very similar to my iPhone 7's temperature.

See picture. Included UltraFine 4K for a comparison. Both screens at 80% brightness with images taken in such a way to exaggerate the unevenness. In real-world use it is largely imperceptible.

How do ya like the 4K LG as a side note ?

Your a033 looks relatively uniform!

Without wanting to derail the thread:
  • Superb panel (and that's all that really matters!)
  • Better build than expected - the up/down movement is perfectly weighted with butter-smooth movement while still being really solid
  • Desperately needs improved macOS integration - ambient light sensor not working currently and changing brightness is really laggy
  • Speakers are way better than I expected but distort at 50%+ volume (which is loud in fairness) - should be limited to 50-75% ish by software IMO
    • Volume increase scale is way off the mark: 1 notch to 2 notches doubles the volume; 2 to 3 is barely different
  • USB-C input socket is concerningly wiggly - but the connection stays stable
Back on topic, yes my MBP screen is pretty even - I just wish Apple could pick a white point and stick with it for a few years! They change it with every product it seems.

A027 I think is one that fizzled not long after launch. One that I'm clamoring to because I personally believe 12" started getting inferior screens as common practice. Both my parents rMB's one a late 2015 build and another that's 2016 both look sort of faded and comparatively
Not as crisp (and a notch less bright) but you'd still be impressed as it being your first retina screen and nothing else to reference (and my parents couldn't care less anyways even if I did point it out)

Sorry to hear! Are you going to try another ?

I returned the 13" MBP today, I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I may end up skipping this generation.

I returned mine yesterday. I might wait for a refresh, it was not a need situation since I have the iPad Pro and 27" 5k. It was more the want. But after comments on my panel it made me suspect of its quality.

^ dang sorry to hear!

hopefully it didn't make you suspicious of something new, but rather something you already suspected lol

I am very happy with my screen it is crisp and whites are amazing. No notice of anything wrong, looks as good as my 5K iMac.

Color me totally confused... You liked the panel but returned it because someone on the internet said it had an issue?

That's the problem with threads like these, they create problems that don't really exist and cause people to exchange 47 times (remember the old Samsung / LG exchange frenzy a few years ago) or cause people to return a perfectly fine machine..

I got my nTB today and it has the A033 panel. Looks fine to me. I am sure someone, somewhere on the internet could point out a flaw though..

The TB I am returning also has A033 and it looks fine to me as well...

All new P3 displays are Samsung(610) displays as per previous posts on prior generations.

13" TB A034

Perfectly happy with the screen, on full brightness it holds up very well.

no there are two screen manufacturers

610 has been the # for eternity

Its Samsung. 610 is the Manufacturer which is Samsung. Check older threads. Its been confirmed. No other manufacturer creates these panels. LG all have Image Retention issues and Apple does not use those any longer.

No it is not, this is misinformation sorry. 610 is what displayed back in non retina days when there was multiple manufacturers.

610 was displayed when you could run a terminal line to have it output LG or Samsung when retina Macs first came out.

A0xx is what determines whether its same manufacturer or not. But we don't know who aligns with which one
