design is different and many people doesnt have access to iphones like that! on ebay you can get a touch for 150e so... 200 dollars i think

The design is different. I'm soon "upgrading" to an iPhone, and I'm honestly kinda sad... the Touch looks and feels SO MUCH better!

I guess I just know several people who are upgrading to iPhone 3G, and need some way to get rid of their previous iPhone. Some are selling them for ~$100, many have just offered them for free.

but they sell with those prices because theyre on contract mode! i'm from portugal so...

They are, but if you're into this sort of thing, there are ways around that. How does being from portugal affect this? Please explain.

i would still have to pay the contract and for the price... i would prefer ipod touch again!

I just upgraded from my iPod touch to a 16GB 1st Gen iPhone and I actually think the iPhone feels a lot more comfortable in my hands than the touch. The iPod touch was nice for the 11 months I've had it, now I'm ready for the iPhone. I just wish I would've gotten an iPhone sooner.

Also, I'm not a big fan of the 3G iPhone... I don't think they look/feel as good as the 1st Gen.

That's one reason that I'm getting a friend's old iPhone. The other is that here in Tuscaloosa, AL 3G is not available yet. So the ONLY feature I won't have is GPS, and I have absolutely no use for that. I mean, really... getting lost in Tuscaloosa is virtually impossible. There's a football stadium that's pretty much viewable from anywhere, so... :D

I think a device like the Touch would only need a camera that would take pictures to fill it's screen. 480x320. They'll look great on the Touch, and won't take up excessive memory. There might even be a smaller option, to take pictures for the contact book. I had exactly that as an add-on for my ancient Treo PDA. Made for an incredibly simple way to get photos of my students next to their address/email entry.

In order to add side buttons, they'd have to make the iPod touch wider. If they just added buttons now, it wouldn't be in the least way ergonomic.

Anything else is an iPhone feature or is not suitable for the iPod line-up.

And FM radio? C'mon. Everyone knows FM radio sucks.

HD FM radio would be nice. Not sure on its popularity now at the moment. But an FM radio would make sense. Many MP3 players have FM radios built in.

I agree on the camera. Its something seriously lacking in the ipod touch. You can store and browse photos. Taking them would be a nice next step.

5mp? lol
Well, if apple takes the camera option of course it will be the same as iphone so it can be more profitable! the price of each decreases with the increase of orders! But it's a big step to take a camera to touch :s unfortunately!

I hope they don't put speakers, mic or camera in the iPod touch because I just bought an iPhone... hehehe ;-)

you bought iphone because of the 3g 2.5g and gsm and so on... if you did bought cause of the camera... ARE YOU CRAZY? ehehe

Exactly. They will settle for an iPod touch, not an iPhone. Or they'll go for a competing product (less likely).

Oh sorry. I forgot the $2000 contract on it.

Maybe that's what it takes.

Completely agree. (Just see some of my posts in other threads.) We want those features, but we won't get them. But I'll still get an iPod touch over anything else (besides the mini-tablet, if it's released) because it provides the best value for the least tradeoffs for me. :)

It looks like early-to-mid September, like in the past two years.

Basically rumors say multi-colored iPod nanos, portrait screen iPod nanos, and an iPod touch update that may be a very big update.

I agree with you completely, but you should realize the $2000 contract really isn't that big of a deal for some. If you want a smart phone (like the iPhone) your probably not going to mind paying that since other smart phones cost similar prices. Then again, I can't say that I'm completely in touch with prices of plans for other smart phones.

4: no mirror finish on the back of the ipod, since the back gets smudges and scrathches on it easily. get a finish like the iphone.

This, unfortunately won't happen as long as the rest of the iPod line has this back. Remember, this is an iPod, not a low-end iPhone.

5: bigger storage capacity. have a 16GB standard model, 32GB, and 64GB.

I'd say a good chance of increase, but maybe not 64GB... a lot of posters here say that that would just be too expensive.

6: FM radio

Once again, this is an iPod, so this won't happen. :(

7: a price cut

Certainly won't happen. Perhaps, as speculated, the 8GB gets the chop, and the 16GB and 32GB are moved down in price, but a price cut below $299 won't happen. This is the premium iPod, so a slash in prices would have to mean a cut in the prices of the rest of the iPod line.

All things I want. All things that I don't foresee :(

Gizmodo launched an article saying: "new patents from apple" or something like that lol... well it's about patents from apple, anyway, there is an ipod touch! just to tell this

Gotta disagree with you there. I own a touch, and my friend just got and iPhone 3G,
i think the iPhone feels soooooo much nicer in the hand.

But hey, whatever.

iPod

and these are what i would like to see:

1- a volume button on the side of it
2- speakers on the ipod touch.
3- FM radio i think it's very important
and actully a price cut ;)

But no other Apple product does, so it won't happen.
I'm tired of this remark. No other Apple iPod had a touch screen, wifi, a direct YouTube app, and so on. The Touch, and future products from Apple are about moving ahead not staying behind. Every business I know that doesn't move forward eventually fails, getting left behind by the competition. Apple knows this. The mindset you expressed would have left wifi AND the touchscreen off the Touch, simply because no other ipod had ever had those features before.

I've got a player with FM and RDS that can record songs off the radio and link the RDS data to the file. The next step is parsing the RDS data for ID3 tagging the song. A device with a web link could even schedule FM recording. I'd suspect Apple leaving FM off more because of apps like AOL radio (not Apple's idea) and such. Yet wifi goes away when local power is out. I rely on the players I have with FM for weather and news updates in those circumstances. It's a token chip to add.

Personal preference, I suppose. :D And I won't be getting a 3G iPhone, just a friends first-gen iPhone. We don't have 3G in Tuscaloosa, and there isn't any use for GPS here.
