As a (top 5) line sitter at nearly every iPhone/iPad launch I can tell you, if you get there before 3, prepare to get escorted off the premises by security. Unless you're in a 24 hour city (lucky), a'course.

Show up around 5. Get some sleep. You'll get your phone.

Maybe in your town but my town is not a 24 hour city (even our IHOP closes at 9 or 10) and I was in line for the 4 at 12 am and the only thing security had issue with was no bringing my own chairs (I have no idea why not but oh well).

Eh, you know, it's probably random. But in my experience, most mall cops don't let people camp overnight, and they will escort us eager iPhone 5 fans off the premises. I'm gonna try a different mall this time, hopefully I will achieve better results.

Called the closest Apple store to me today in south Florida area. It is located in a mall as are all the Apple stores in my area. Apple rep told me that the only line they will be controlling is the one in front of their store. There will be one entrance into the mall that is opened first at 8AM and I could try to line up outside before this if I wanted to, but they (Apple) would not be doing anything about the line outside supposedly. I guess this means that basically once that door opens into the mall, people could just run like crazy to the Apple store and whoever gets there first will get there first.

At the Florida Mall in Orlando, they allowed us to line up at the outside mall entrance over night. The first person was there at 6 PM. By 5, when they let us into the mall to line up in front of the Apple store there were several hundred people in the parking lot in a nicely ordered line.

Is the Providence Place malls still open 24x7, and the line starting at the Apple store? Or do we have to queue in the garage?

During the 4 launch at the FTL store they had the line outside the mall and when they opened they politely asked everyone to make their way to the store. If you were an asshat or made a scene they would remove you from the line. The store employees were handing out coffee and donuts. Everyone just walked calmly to the store.

Also don't be that person that takes a video of the line after they get the phone. You will get hostile remarks and may get mugged the further you go.
