I'm pretty disappointed that there don't seem to be any leaks or rumors about a new Airport Extreme and Time Capsule. My Time Capsule has been on its last legs for about a year, and I've been patiently waiting for Apple to refresh their current access points.

Apple's WiFi products used to be class-leading, but have unfortunately fallen fairly far behind. Just like their once class-leading computers.
Class leading in what way?

Umm, no.

The headphone jack (in Apple devices) NOT in Paradise.

It is in HELL.

Dongle-Hell, along with every other useful-and-still-in-heavy-use port: Rack #5 at the Apple Store, where Apple will be happy to charge you more for something that was there to begin with for free.

Enough with floppy-disk nonsense. The two are not even close to equivalent, comparison-wise.

Who cares. If it's not dead, it would be soon. Cry babies will only be heard for a year or so, perfectly normal! Wireless is the future. 3.5mm is dead technology walking.

Looking back, we know that it was time for the floppy disk to go. The headphone jack is still a raw sore. We'll need a few years before we can look back and realize that the headphone jack was ready to go, too.
Actually, when Apple removed the floppy most people did NOT freak out. It was already obsolete.
Optical Drive - removed too soon
BluRay - ( never allowed us to have it at all )
Hard Drives - removed too soon
HDMI - removed too soon
MagSafe - removed too soon
Headphone jack.... its removal is just insane!!! It was NOT removed for any functional reason ( they claim one, but it's a lie ). 3.5mm was removed so you will buy wireless Beats products. It's not an advancement or improvement for phone or computer users at all. It's only an improvement if your name is Dre.

We are gonna look back and laugh, but not for the reason you think.

Something is going to be demoed and few expect: Final Cut Pro 10.3. And the new version is really surprising.

Class leading in what way?

In general they supported the latest networking standards, had CPUs fast enough to keep up, had good (if not excellent) RF performance, along with a simple GUI and installation process. I'm sure people could pick nits and point out superior products at the time, but they've generally been highly regarded for years.

However, the Airport Extreme (upon which the TC is based, so I'll just refer to AE) has been far superseded within its price point. There are plenty of routers supporting 802.11ac Wave 2 (Apple only support Wave 1), with faster CPUs better able to keep up with gigabit broadband connections and gigabit wireless (AE struggles), and so on.

There are even some recently launched products that support WiGig, a complementary standard designed for high bandwidth / low latency in-room performance (e.g. for wireless VR) that is supposed to become a big deal in 2017. In years gone by, Apple would be one of the first (if not the first) to adopt "the next big thing." Not any longer.

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that it simply hasn't leaked yet. It would make sense for Apple's new Macbooks to support 802.11ac Wave 2, and if they do, it would also make sense for Apple to sell a WiFi base station that supports the newest standard.

the problem here is on apple they are too far behind that they cant salvage their Mac line anymore. windows machine offer too good of a price - performance ratio that the time for mac has passed noone wants their expensive weak machines anymore when you can get 4k touch laptops with i7 16gb ram 1 tb ssd and a desktop class gtx 1060 with the same ammount of battery life as current macbooks for cheaper than the baseline macbook pro with its lower resolution non touch screen and integrated graphics.... even the higher end $2600 machine that it will replace will offer a significantly weaker amd chip that wont be able to render any video editing in higher resolutions... its a machine with a "pro" namtag but its so far from it.... no one cares about a OLED tool bar or how thin it is... we care about how it will run the software we use to create things and how much value i get out of the money we are spending on it... and right now apples macbooks are just a complete waste of money.

Technology becomes "dead" when it is replaced by something better. What Apple has provided is not BETTER. You and Cook are nuts if you think that people are going to throw away MILLIONS ( perhaps billions ) of headphones and other devices that use 3.5mm so they can spend money to buy something inferior. Jobs thrilled us and made us buy new things because they were revolutionary and MASSIVELY better than what came before. Now Cook has to convince us what Apple is doing is better. It's NOT better, Bluetooth Audio is inferior to a wire and everybody knows it. Even Woz.
Best of all, Apple for years has been saying we can't even have what we USED to get from Apple.

Cook and Ive fiddle while Apple burns.

Apple will drop the ball again if they overlook the MacPro, Mac Mini and displays. Come on, enough of this.
the thing is they probably wont update the mac pro because its not making them any money. the mac pro is so expensive and you can get much better performance for a much more affordable price elseware. I wouldnt be suprised if the only thing shown are new macbooks and a new display.
[doublepost=1477427838][/doublepost]
How about an update to the Macbook pro with a graphics card that isn't obsolete? Put an NVIDIA 1060/1070 in there, or at least an option for that.
i wish thats what they would do but you know they wont... Apple never makes their laptops top spec but they ALWAYS charge like they are... the weakest $2600 laptop money can buy... its pretty pathetic. Their macs have gone down hill too , just 3 years ago the imac was top notch best in class in performance it always had the best processord and mobile graphics money could buy. from the 680mx to the 780m then they decided to stop and go bac to being weak and a joke with the 295x which is weaker than a 780m and now the 395x which cant even hold a candle to a 970m... but they want to push displays with high resolutions and call themselves "PRO" machines... its going to be a long year for apple if they launch weak ass laptops for $2000+ considering how much better the competition has become. Its hard to stay loyal to mac when the price - performance ratio is this bad.

Only all the time. Like when they took out the superdrive in the iMac in order to make it look thinner but not actually be thinner. Or when they took the Superdrive out of the mac mini and made it exactly the same size except with no slot. Or when they released the macbook with only one USB-C port to do everything, and is now apparently doing only USB-C on all their computers so we get to have a glorious assortment of dongles to lose

Nonsense, in all these cases Apple was ahead of its time and a little while later no-one knew any better. I see only examples (also from others here) of changes that Apple made to drive progress.

Tim: "...we went through many great products today only our family at apple could provide but there really is one more thing..."

*crowd buzzes*

*video plays*

"and we call it..."

"the apple escape"

*crowd roars*

"the apple escape is your portal to the matrix adding dimension to your reality and the world around you. watch your favorite movies, play console-quality games, and interact with a virtual world created by you and people across the globe."

Yeah, like you have try it. Judging something before it even his the market! Topical! And even if you had try it, that's your opinion. You want to spend hours a year untangling stupid wires, go ahead. I want tech companies to have a vision and not be blind and ignorant ( like some in this forum) so they can invest in the future technology rather then sleeping their lazy arse in a decades old tech.

Keep telling yourself that. The audio jack is here to stay for the foreseeable future. Wireless signals will never, ever trump a wired connection when it matters.

Music production and recording, research, military, backups of sensitive or important data, you name it. The professional world has no tolerance for dropped signals because of wireless interference, battery issues, etc. Just like you still have Ethernet EVERYWHERE, the audio port is here to stay.

Just because Apple does something, doesn't mean it's right. So yes, the Floppy Disk is gone because they came up with something better, in all aspects of the item in question.

Wireless signals are a convenience, but it is far, far less reliable, sturdy, and secure than a wired connection. On the consumer side, wireless makes sense to a degree. Definitely not in the pro world. If Apple truly had courage and believed their own BS, they would not have included an adapter with the iPhone. You either need the jack or you don't. Even Apple admits you do.

Thus, the so-called "crybabies" are the ones in Apple's cheerleading, kool-aid drinking camp on this one.

Everyone else will simply use the device that provides what they want and/or need.

No minorities on stage
all middle aged white guys in jeans and an shirt with the top 2 buttons unbuttoned and carefully wrinkled.
Although last keynote they finally had a woman on stage who gave one of the worst and stupidest presentations ever - oooh, look at the power of Keynote (plain black slide with white text - woooowwww.....ahhhh...)

Your post is so riddled with irony that I couldn't restrain myself.

What does one's ethnicity have to do with this? I assume that in a business as competitive as Apple that they hire the best PERSON for the job without looking at their race.

The paradox is that the most racist thing you can do is to pay attention to race when it is irrelevant.

Then you whine that they are almost all white males and then in the same post say when they did include a woman she was awful. So which is it? Do you want a diversity show where people who aren't the most competent are paraded out as tokens of their race or gender and give poor presentations, or do you want people who are the most competent to be on stage regardless of their background?

Now, maybe Apple is discriminating against people of color and that's why there aren't many women or minorities on stage, or maybe when there are so few people at the top that the most talented at this particular point just happen to be white. Everything I've seen at Apple tells me they are committed to both excellence and fairness.

Are you also are offended by the lack of white men in the NBA?

Totally agree that the wired connections are here to stay. Ethernet cables are being ran everywhere in new construction. However, may new buildings don't have a phone cable in sight. Apple is pushing the lightning connector as a new audio connector. One that it sees as an upgrade over the 3.5mm jack. I am sure we will start seeing more headphones using lightning connectors and we will also start to see some using the new USB-C connectors I would imagine.

Plus, there are many audio connectors used in the pro world that are much better quality than the 3.5mm jack.

That being said, I currently use Beats Studio Wireless and they can definitely be a pain to pair sometimes. Hopefully Apple's W1 chip can fix that as well.

I'm not particularly disappointed by the dropping of USB-A ports. USB-C is not an Apple proprietary port, and if you look on amazon, there are adaptors and cables to USB-A/B for super cheap, so it's really not a huge issue. It'll be nice not to have to switch the cables back and forth until it goes in. Also, USB-A ports get dirty and rust easily, USB-C should be a lot more durable, and can be cleaned much more easily. The fact that one port can go USB, Firewire, Thunderbolt, Displayport, HDMI, and Power, is actually pretty incredible and a very smart idea.

As a musician, it would be an absolute deal breaker if they removed the headphone jack, but I don't see that happening soon. The only reason it was removed from the iPhone is that there were no components in the iPhone taller than the headphone jack, so they could make it thinner without it. But unless they also get rid of the battery and SSD on the MacBook, that's not going to be the same case here.

HDMI? I never had a MacBook with an HDMI cable, I always had to have a display port adaptor, which was ridiculously expensive. USB-C to HDMI adaptors are WAY cheaper. Obviously those who had a MacBook Pro in the few years where they were offered, this is a bit of a downer... but then again, cheap adaptors.

The one thing I'm going to be crossing my fingers is a 32GB RAM option. I open up VERY VERY large audio production projects that really push the limits of my 2011 16GB MacBookPro, and syphon a lot off to Virtual Memory. I've been holding my breath for a 32GB option. SandyLake has the option of DDR-5s with 16GB chips, so there's a decent chance. But Apple may decided "no one needs that much", which would make me very upset.

I still haven't, and don't plan to.

I use the headphone jack, and charge at the same time, every day, and can't justify spending an additional $50-$150 to allow a brand new $700 phone to chew gum and walk at the same time.

I won't be upgrading unless something catastrophic happens to my 6. This is the first time in years that I haven't upgraded every other year (or even annually) as in years past.

All the more respect to you, then. I can wholeheartedly appreciate people who complain about something and "vote with their wallet", as it were. I don't respect, however, those who complain just to complain, and then go out and buy it anyway because, in reality, it wasn't really an issue for them to begin with. #bandwagon

I'm unsure which point is more head scratch-worthy:

- touting a touch screen display in a portable system as a must-have feature while at the same time denigrating an alledged OLED touch bar in a portable system, or

- expecting Apple to adopt a mobile graphics product that requires a system TDP that's larger than what Apple has historically targeted in their designs.

How can I install macOS into a PC?

There is no way I'm buying a MacBook Pro that only has USB-C ports.
But I concede that macOS is SOOO much better than Windows.

I expect to be disappointed.

A pro computer with only one type of port is crap. Lazy crap. Why does Apple do this sort of dumb stuff? Probably saved a nickel.

Wrong! It's thinking like this that is crap! Why does the industry constantly come up with new connectors to drown us in? Thunderbolt 3 aka USB - C is the future. If Apple kills all other ports - GREAT ! It will force device makers to switch to this connector, and eventually the vision of one cable for everything could become a reality.

The only thing that f*cks me up is the fact that the ios devices don't use usb-c themselves. I hope next year they'll kill lightning.
