I would think that apple will release El Capitan alongside iOS and Watch OS 2. They usually release them simultaneously, and lately more than ever. And a divided release wouldn't make sense since an updated iOS means you would not have access to your new notes on the Mac until EL Capitan is released.
The moved their release closer together (and made OS X a yearly release, a precondition to keep them close together). But they were never released simultaneously.

2007: iOS - June OS X - October
2008: iOS - July
2009: iOS - June OS X - August
2010: iOS - June
2011: iOS - October OS X - July
2012: iOS - September OS X - July

Hopefully no language translation issues this time during the stream... Otherwise I may be needing this:

Wait - there's one more thing...

For the first time since 2012, we are radically upgrading the 15" Macbook Pro. Now with SkyLake processors featuring AVX 3.2, six USB-C ports compatible with TB 3, HDMI 2.2, Displayport 3.2, PCIe3, and Wi-Di. Full support for 2 external 4K monitors or one external 8K monitors. Dual internal discrete GPUs. Support for external GPUs over Displayport. Options for 32GB DRAM and a 2 TB SSD internal drive. Plus new Audio-file quality on on board 50-watt speakers, with 20Hz-20KHz dynamic range. All with 24 hour battery life. And... we're bringing back the Kensington Lock, because a $4,000 laptop isn't something you just leave lying on a park bench.

I'd like to see aluminum (aluminium?) abandoned. Tired of the need to wrap a nice looking and expensive machine in cheap plastic to protect from dings while on the go.
I wrapped my 5s in a Mophie and applied a screen shield right out of the box. Not a mark or scratch on it, and it's strong enough to sit or stand on without bending. Also gets 3 to 4 days between charge.

In your dreams. That's not me saying that, it's Apple. ;)

Why doesn't the new Apple TV have the A9?

I am not going to pretend I am a tech expert, but since the ATV4 A8 is powered from the wall and not a tiny battery, wouldn't it outperform other devices that are using A8?

Maybe it doesn't need the A9. Although there is nothing wrong with future proofing.

The new color should look similar to the rose gold Apple Watch Edition.

This makes as much sense as the current Gold iPhone looking similar to the yellow gold Apple Watch Edition. Come on, anodized yellow gold-colored finish looks nothing like real gold seen on the Edition, and neither will anodized rose gold-colored finish.

Why doesn't the new Apple TV have the A9?
  • The A9 production has been ramping up the last two months or so. Which makes it at the moment very likely more expensive than the A8. It might also be still more expensive half a year from now (don't remember whether the A9 is also moving to a new process size). Given that the Apple TV is supposed to sell at only $150 vs $650 to 950 for the iPhone, what might be a small cost difference for iPhones, would be much more noticeable in its effect on margins in the Apple TV.
  • Related to price is also prestige, giving the A9 only to iPhones helps 'justifying' that price difference.
  • They might also not want to take any A9 production away from the iPhone (the iPad mini 4 is also rumoured to get the A8 and the iPad Air is not getting any update, the 'iPad Pro' is supposed to ship two months after the iPhone).
  • Any new power saving features in the A9 won't really benefit the Apple TV.

Just because they offer 16GB doesn't force you to purchase it. The bigger the selection, the better. Some of us only make phone calls and surf the net, so don't need a lot of memory. Why force us to buy what we don't need?

I think the op simply means that a 16gb should not exist in this day and age and instead there should be 32/64/128

I'm going to be some PO'd if there's no iPad Air 3 ... be damned if I'm going to buy last year's model.

MY Apple ecosystem is on a steep downhill - 1st no 17" laptop, then no 24" iMac, then no DVD drive in the 21" iMac, still can't run 2 iTunes IDs on 1 desktop, iBooks updates kills your notes, Apple pushing album art to my iPad and iPhone, and more, and more.

But we're getting new Watch colours and straps ... oh yeah.

Apple desperately needs to start using either Gorilla Glass or Sapphire Glass. I work in IT and support approx 400 iphones and the piles of Iphone 6's with broken screens is really starting to pile up. It has become a major issue since the release of the bigger iphones last year.

Ion Strengthened glass... every single iPhone 6 owner I know has broken their screen, this is contrast to years of no cracked screens from the same group of friends owning iPhones since the 3

Wait...Sapphire hasn't passed any of Apple's drop tests? I thought Saphhire was the next hardest substance next to diamonds! What drop test does apple use on its current iphones? Do they drop it on fluffy pillows? Lol Cause the glass they are using now cracks if you look at it wrong. :p

This is what I expect:
-----------------------

"Good morning."
"Thank you for coming."
"We have some incredible things to show you. Our teams have been working so hard.."
"It's been an amazing year for Apple."

Then, either an Apple Store opening video, or a milestone of Apps downloaded/number of Apps available/
amount of dollars paid to developers.

Watch - "our customers are loving it. here's a video.."
unveil new straps, & mention WatchOS 2 coming soon.. perhaps showing a key feature or two.

iPhone - graphs of market share, iOS share/latest version, maybe even a video
And then some clever spin to lead into the next iPhone, given the fairly incremental upgrades.
Perhaps it will focus on the camera, or perhaps on the display and loads of techy detail
on how 3D Force Touch works.
6S and 6S+ revealed and low-down on the specs, price and pre-orders date.

iPad - another video showing cool iPad users, such as pilots and dance instructors..
Mini iPad update. Reveal iPad Pro (probably with a different name). Stylus in artistic programs, and
a diary app for business users. Super expensive, but will look gorgeous!

Interlude - some non-Apple presentation.. perhaps a game developer showing a dull new game with
amazing graphics, or perhaps a drawing app developer showing cool artistic work with the stylus.
In an attempt to show that this new apple stylus is way better than any of the many other styluses
produced for the iPad already, and the other tablets on the market.

"We're not finished" or "One More Thing" (but that seems too cliched these days..)
Apple TV is an area of interest.. "we want to move it on" (to use Siri etc)
New Apple TV shown. Emphasis on its 'hub' role, and using Siri to control it...
with spotlight on gaming/apps, as well as showing TV channels. Available to buy tomorrow.

Total time: 2 hours, 10 minutes.

Don't even need to watch the keynote now... Thanks for saving me 2 hours and 10 minutes of my life :p

The power supply is a non-issue with power of the chip. A battery operated supercomputer (geez... I was going to say, "Cray") would be just as powerful as a plugged in one.

Now, you're right on the firmware authors powering down the chip while on battery is possible, just as long as they power it back up when the power is needed.

I'm coming at it from a theoretical view, and you're coming at it from a practical view, so we're both right on this.

Can anyone answer this question?

How HELD BACK is the CPU in the iPhone and iPad due to needing to only have a tiny power draw due to battery life?

Take the Apple TV. It runs on mains power, no real power problem now.
Could the Chips powering the iPhone and iPad be MASSIVLY beefed up, as they will have as much power, within reason to play with?

It's not the power supply that would make it faster. It's the ability to actually put a proper heat sink on the processor to allow it to run at a higher clock and avoid throttling from continued performance/overheating.
