To further your point, there are numerous articles on semiaccurate.com that talk about production problems and low yields due to the new manufacturing process. This may also account for the iMac's untimely delay.

What's interesting about this is that none of this is within apple's control, yet it reflects so poorly on them to the layman. It also confirms our suspicions that the computing industry (as in chip makers) as a whole is plateauing, something that has been happening for some time now. Apple is still on the forefront, it's just that the incremental upgrades are slowing down. The focus has become making things smaller and more power efficient and the new mbpR is evidence of that.

Some people think, that delay is caused by Nvidia card availability. What if Apple is waiting for Ivy Bridge i3 processors to be released for low end imac options?

Why on Earth would Apple go back *down* to using the Core i3 for the entry-level iMac?

2010 to 2011 was quite a jump, going from a dual-core i3 with Intel HD on-board graphics for the entry-level iMac to a quad-core i5 with Radeon HD discrete graphics.

Going back to the Core i3 in 2012 would make no sense.

They also had Core 2 Duos and PowerPC's! Maybe Core 2's are so scarce that it's taking Apple a long time to find them and put them in production.

Haha

Apples and oranges. Im no expert but isnt An i3 part of the 3rd generation of Core processors. Although doubtful, it is still a plausible component.

... and the Core i3 was also available as part of Intel's second-generation "Sandy Bridge" range, yet the entry-level 2011 iMac used a quad-core Core i5.

Going from i5 to i3 would be a step back and make no sense.

Thanks. You are right, it wouldn't make sense. I'm just ready for the release!

Ivy bridge.

I made a bad decision last month to wait for the new 2012 iMac. I should have just gotten the 2011 model as I'm dying from all the waiting. Now I can't get the 2011 model because it feels like I wasted my time waiting.

Never again...

Exactly the predicament I'm in :(

People say before a refresh. There is a lack of stock, shipping dates go very far and resellers empty out of models. But i wonder if this was the case with the just launched macbookpros mbas .not retina. Because i heard no news about mbps mbas stock going empty at any time

That's a good question, one I've thought about myself. I've never really been in the market for a laptop, so I don't know if the same hubbub precedes their release. I assume it does.

Announced is the key word. You can find an announcement that says the M17x and M18x are getting the 680M. Then you go to alienware.com and try to make a laptop, and the top available selection is the 675M. They're not ready to list it for sale yet, because they don't actually have any.

I believe NVidia only announced the 680M around June 5th, so I bet we have another couple weeks at the to go at the earliest before they are available to ship in production level machines.

Why? 21" is perfect size for the 1080p resolution and 27" is the perfect size for the 1440p resolution; the resolutions won't change any time soon and increasing the display size results in blockier pixels. Going back to 24" or u to 30" would be reducing the quality of the screen, and I don't want that. And Apple won't go back to 16:10 aspect ratio.

And 21 is probably the best size for dorm rooms and computer labs, but adding a 30 to the mix would be a welcome addition :)

lets think from a clean slate for a second

lets think from a clean slate for a second.

What would be new?

What would not be new, is a screen with the computer in it. Be it 24", 27", or 30". Or even Retina. Really, that is just more of the same. With Ivy Bridge. Big deal ...

So ... lets get inventive ...

How about a notebook thin screen, and just a screen?

The keyboard has the CPU in it. Its also a thunderbolt dock.

The graphics card is in the cable that goes to the monitor (thunderbolt of course).

Want SLI screen performance? Use three cables with graphics cards in them. The cable is wide and has open ends, and uses invection cool air, that flows in one end, and warm out the other ... and a fan on one end perhaps. The cable changes colour, according to the air temp that is flowing along it.

Want more CPU? Buy an iCpu (not Ick Poo thanks although that's what all the Windoze Wannabees call it these days) keyboard extender. Yes, they have a CPU in them. Buy a couple if you like. They sit on alloy cooling grids. Their cooling pipes change colour as they increase in temperature as well. You can add cooling cables to them too.

And you can have an iProj projector if you want - instead of a monitor. Or transmit to a television set. iTV that is called I think. Or should i say iThink (getting confused now) ...

- or wait for the comping iWrap ... you know ... its the "Foil in the Coil" ... remember now? ... it's clear mylar film, that you carry wrapped, like a paper towel tube ... you unfurl it, attach it to wall on its stick on battery holder, or to a table top - batteries on the table - and bingo! there's your clear monitor ir idesk ..... I'm wrapped in iWrap (waiting for it keenly I mean. iMean, i mean ... iMeen (I am mean, yep ...)

getting more confused again ...

Or get the new iHolo. You know ... its the hologram viewer. Its bigger than 46" if you want, but over 36", you need to turn the lights down a smidgen. Or say says Apple. We don't, because we charge couple our air at home - 'coz of our new air iConditioner ... yep, its a full "6Dimensions" air conditioner, from non other than Apple.

There's an iholokey as well (the holographic virtual keyboard - which auto adjusts to your hand size). Its even got "Keep Fit" option, that builds your biceps as you type. And you can upgrade it to any musical instrument you like ... just use iTunes, for every instrument there's a charge. Buy a deluxe Fender, and Jimi Hendrix will play alongside, and until July, buy the Stratocsaster, and Jimi will personally (his iholograph that is) will personally teach you its tricks. And if there's teens or kids around, he'll be straight and clean too, not even any alcohol in him.

And for those on a budget, just buy an iGlass. No - its not the "telescope" as Windoze Wannabees now call it ... It's a pair of the blue ray OLED glasses, with 4 million colours per eye, which give you higher resolution than the latest Retina ... and actually your own Retina for that matter ... also of course, 3D as well ... and surround sound of course, for the "Pro" iHoloPro.

let's put in all in the apple remote and sell it for 29.99$

Wow.. after months of speculation and hundreds of people's predictions we've gone to that place now?

Seems to me that someone's been smoking too many iSpliffs.
