Ok,fine,seems a good deal to me..after all,
1080 games at 24" and Mac Appz at 27".
ps.
i see the new Surface ..basically a "Air" with touch..
(i wonder if amobile hackintosh..is possible with)
then next year the new Xbox...based on Win8
basically Windows 8 will be a real contender for Apple
don't you think?
Better for Apple to hurry..a little.

A 680M and a $200 price hike on the top 27" seems more likely than Apple sitting on a finished product. To me, at least.

You've been consistent with this assumption and you've won me over. Another argument for this would be the price apple negotiates for components is not the same as any other manufacturer so can't make the "double the price" generalisations. Think apple decided to go with the best GPU money can buy because of the way it's range is going with regards to power required to drive higher definition displays...

couple questions

why is the iMac update taking so long?

also, could removal of ODD allow a desktop GPU? for if iMac to get a retina screen would a laptop GPU be enough for the performance?

So far, Power Nap only runs on Macs with SSD drives per Apple and MacWorld, no fans running, silent while you sleep so as not to wake you nor the Mac.

?
You mean the currect iMac with a HDD doesn't sleep as other macs do? (I mean, I'm using a PowerMac G5 and even with a MBP when I put it to sleep the fans and everything is turned "off" (not really off, it's called safe sleep))

There have been/were rumors flying around like crazy about everything mac---except iMac...what is up with that??

Alright guys, have any of you noticed the online Apple refurbished store?

Notice how the Mac Mini is no longer available as a refurbished computer, and if you also go on the iMac the baseline iMac and the Top of the line iMac (3.4GHz Core i7) are both not available. I don't know how long it's been like this. But from past experiences with Mac refreshes, when the stock on the refurbished store is 0(Mac Mini) or just some of them(iMac) That means and update is very imminent. Also not to mention that on third-party re-sellers(Best Buy) the iMac's have been on sale, and when they are usually on sale that means a new one is coming very soon.

I actually just did purchase the baseline iMac a couple of weeks ago, but will be returning it, as I assume the iMac and Mac Mini will be update alongside the roll out of Mountain Lion, just like last year.

Thoughts?

A lot of what you stated is old news. As for your mac purchase, you have 14 days from the date of purchase to return it. From your post it seems that you have past the return period. The iMac and mac mini is expected to be refreshed along with the release of mountain lion.

Well, my 7-year-old Mac Pro is dying. Keeps freezing due to some IO error that I've traced back to the onboard SATA controller. So I've ordered a maxed out iMac 27. Hopefully it will serve me well for the next 7 years.

I have a gut feeling that this years iMac will be a quiet update and launch sometime near last years update next year at WWDC both the iMac and Mac pro will steal the show well that's my guess anyway.

I don't expect an iMac update for quite some time, perhaps late next year. The iMac already has nearly the fastest available desktop processor, Thunderbolt, good screen resolutions, etc. The only things missing are USB 3 (not really necessary with Thunderbolt present) and BluRay (not likely).
