Well, fine.
I waited enough.
Apple doesnt want to be competitive on desktops anymore and i wont follow him to death.
i said allrdy in this topic that it was more likely to come out a minor upgrade of mac pro instead of a new imac.
I think now that the new imac will come out on autumn in best of cases, with much luck at the end of july.
I think also it wont be an important update as the delay would require.
so i dont see a single reason to keep follow it.
I wait till 20 july maximum then the new sony desktop will be out (http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/st...&productId=8198552921666441747#specifications)
if imac is out aswell, good, i will decide what to buy depending on characteristics/price
but i doubt they are smart enough to make something better. Anyway i can use both windows and OS X and both pc

I don't expect an iMac update for quite some time, perhaps late next year. The iMac already has nearly the fastest available desktop processor, Thunderbolt, good screen resolutions, etc. The only things missing are USB 3 (not really necessary with Thunderbolt present) and BluRay (not likely).

You do know the 2011 iMac doesn't have the fastest CPU available. The current iMac uses Sandy-Bridge CPU's which are a year old the new Ivy-bridge CPU's are faster. The Xeon CPU's are faster.

Which is why I said "nearly" the fastest. I doubt iMac will ever get a Xeon processor. Way too much money for it's intended audience. The jump from Sandy to Ivy is only around 8% or so. Not a jaw dropper by any means.

Tom's Hardware had this to say:
"...the numbers also make it objectively clear that there is no reason to upgrade a high-end desktop Sandy Bridge CPU to a high-end Ivy Bridge CPU."

Bought a 2011 iMac, didja?

EDIT: Ah, I see from the previous page that you did. Buyer's remorse is rough, isn't it?

I don't have buyer's remorse. I made an informed decision and will enjoy the new Mac once it arrives. :) If one chooses to wait around for the "best," one won't have anything. :)

This is correct. If someone is waiting just for the CPU speed bump, their time and money are best served looking for a bargain bin or refurb instead.

If they're looking for the new GPU, on the other hand...

I have a gut feeling that this years iMac will be a quiet update and launch sometime near last years update next year at WWDC both the iMac and Mac pro will steal the show well that's my guess anyway.

From what we've seen (and knowing the path Apple is taking), WWDC will be more and more for the portable/mobile (if they use WWDC for any more product launch), so I can bet with you that the iMac or the Mac Pro won't be launched at WWDC.

I am hopefull that the iMac will be launched on July 2nd, but that's just me hoping.

That's just not true at the moment. Maybe if Thunderbolt was as ubiquitous as USB, but it's simply not right now. I can't go out and buy a thunderbolt thumb drive (if I can, I'm sure it's expensive), so I'm still stuck with the 480 Mb/s of USB 2.0. Also, pretty much any decent external hard drive you can buy has USB 3.0, and Thunderbolt drives are super expensive now. I guess that you'll be ready with your 2011 machine when more Thunderbolt stuff comes out, but at least in the present, it's simply not an alternative to USB 3.0.

All things aside, I hope that you enjoy your new computer, because it is a great machine. I also hope/am entirely certain that we'll see an iMac update sooner than later next year like you suggested.

Sorry if this have been answered already but i cant bother reading every single post in this thread.

Rumors seems to point to that the 27" will get the gpu 7970 upgrade or whatever its called.

Any rumors on the gpu on the 21.5"? Why im askin is that if the only presumedly upgrade on the 21.5 is the cpu bump I will pull the trigger on a used 21.5 late 2011.

Hopefully awaiting answers :)

Only Apple knows, pull the trigger and enjoy.

I think it's going to be nvidia all the way across. Maybe not the 680M, but the 670 or 675 I would guess.

Given the hefty price tag on the 680m, you might be right. I'm hoping Apple flexed some muscle and got the 680m for a much better price.

How does the 660 or 675 compare to the current available option and the 7970? Is it a lot of difference performance wise?

1. 680M
2. 7970m
------
GIANT CHASM
------
Everything else.

The 660M is below the 6970m; it's a mild upclock of the 650M. The 675M is a repackage of last year's goods (40nm Fermi, not this year's 28nm Kepler) and might be on par, give or take, with the 6970m. Both would be extremely disappointing choices. Neither would prevent 2012's from already being for sale.

For a start the graphics card in that Sony iMac ripoff is a Nvidia 640m. Considering the Macbook Pro has a 650m you can be pretty sure the iMac will have a better graphics card then that PC. Also 1080p on a 24" screen is a pretty low dpi.

I don't know about that article. I don't trust it solely based on the price they are quoting which was clearly defined at WWDC as 19.99, not 20.99. I mean, if you are going to miss something like that.....

I know that $20.99 is the AU$ price... Maybe it's info from aus.

Ahhh that is an Australian website.

The Sony is hideous! Is Ives the only designer out there who knows how to make a computer look like a work of art? :apple: Most of the AIO machines I have seen range from not too bad for plastic, to totally ugly.

The iMac will no doubt be updated soon. Apple knows they have to keep up. Yet, the 2011 iMac is still a timeless design with pretty robust power. It runs OSX, which imo is enough reason to want one. :D
