I don't have buyer's remorse. I made an informed decision and will enjoy the new Mac once it arrives. :) If one chooses to wait around for the "best," one won't have anything. :)

Haha, that's not true. Going by apples past releases of iMacs, you'll have the best for an average of 273 days, providing you buy one on release day and not one that's 416 days old already.

That said, the old iMacs are still great machines - they just won't be new for much longer.

What about then the thunderbolt chip to be seen with Ivy Imac?
I remember a rumor saying something about the Cactus Ridge .
In terms of performances do you see it or not in the next iMAC?
ps.
wow..-1,any chance to see a REAL answer?L

Input from another computer

Does everyone here think Apple will keep the ability to take input from another computer on the 27" iMac? If so, do you think it will be like the 2011 model or the older 2010/late 2009? The reason I ask is the older ones took mini displayport input which would allow the iMac to be used as a display for a PC. The 2011 model only accepts thunderbolt signals = only apple computers.

I think they will use it like 2011 but I really, really hope they go back and allow both thunderbolt and mini displayport. I have a Windows laptop I want to connect to my new iMac when I work from home. That way I only keep the iMac on my desk and when needed I hook up the Windows laptop to it.

thanks!

Seen as the new iMac is way overdue, does anyone think that the rumoured Apple television could be its replacement in some form?

Yes, 3 people do. In threads that they created for that discussion. Where most of us pointed out the folly.

I wish apple would do this as well, but I think they won't. I would love to hook up my Xbox. It just needs someone to develop a switch box adaptor, but it's quite a limited market I guess.

The Sony is hideous! Is Ives the only designer out there who knows how to make a computer look like a work of art? :apple: Most of the AIO machines I have seen range from not too bad for plastic, to totally ugly.

The iMac will no doubt be updated soon. Apple knows they have to keep up. Yet, the 2011 iMac is still a timeless design with pretty robust power. It runs OSX, which imo is enough reason to want one. :D

Those who appreciate the esthetics of a computer are somewhat of a niche group, IMO. Apple caters to them, and I like it.

Hi guys :)
'am waiting for the new iMac for quite a while as well..

Wasn't Apple going to get power back from the heat of the GPU ? But that wouldn't give any suggestions for the GPU, would it..?

Well, have you already seen the Vizio AIO ?
- I think it's not so bad and their mentality is pretty nice as well - The Verge article

Woo ********** hoo another month to wait...

In line with our expectations.

Although I was hoping for July 10, at this late state simultaneous with ML does make sense and that's the more appropriate ML launch window.

I'm thinking along the lines that they might push the iMac out prior to ML to give people of a choice of what OS they might use and let the ones that wants to wait for a few ML patches do so. Also, new OS + new components might result in alot of troubles/issues. From a customer service point of view it'd be wiser to push it out before.

I hope my expectations aren't too high,i don't wanna be disappointed, thats why i was looking at the cactus ridge thunderbolt chip in new Mbpro Air...to evaluate an alternative....650m how behind stays from 6970m?

It's a nightmare from a supply chain point of view though. They'd need to make, what, 300,000? 400,000? units with Lion installed. Then switch to ML. And make sure the ML units don't go out early.

This way they skip all that, and as a bonus don't have to support Lion drivers for it. Given that I was upgrading to ML anyway, it's all good with me.

650m is about 30% below 6970m.

Oh yeah, didn't think of that. Good point.

I guess then convenience for logistics wins, even with Apple's supposedly 5-day-turnover.

Possibly no iMac before the fall

Arment describes some of the issues surrounding Retina displays at the size needed for the 27-inch iMac, including production yield and insufficient bandwidth, but it is unclear why Apple would wait until the fall to update the iMac if those issues will prevent Retina displays from being included in that revision. Even without a Retina display, updated iMac models could take advantage of Ivy Bridge processors, improved graphics chips, and USB 3.0, and those upgrades could be included in a new model any time now.

I hear ya, but many would prefer to get a new iMac loaded with Lion and be able to wait for the first and second updates to ML which address the gotchas inevitable in the .0 release. Apple could hold of on installing ML on the new units a day or too over without too many complaints. Everybody gets a free upgrade to ML, even folks buying 2011 iMacs now. The driver support point is tough to overlook, but it's not like Apple lacks resources, especially if there truly is pent up demand for Ivy Bridge/USB 3.0 iMacs and thus reason to get them shipping ASAP. All the hardware is available, even the hoped-for 680m has shipping dates from Alienware. I do wonder if nVidia is ramping up fast enough to meet the demand for all vendors in July.

Fall they're saying now for a refresh. Surely not. Why? If no retina (which I personally don't care about) no reason to wait that long for a routine refresh

I'm waiting until ML is released.
If nothing by then, plus maybe a week or two after...
I'm just buying the current 27".
I've had enough of waiting.
