... So the only reason they haven't refreshed the Mac Mini at this point is that they deliberately chose not to do so. An ominous portent of things to come, or not a concern? We just don't know.

The reason the mac mini has not been updated is simple They don't need to they sell a boat load of what they already make.

Also the preformance leap from the 2010 to the 2011 was huge.

When the 2012 model comes out in OCT the improvement will not be as much.

Unless they don't do an October update and just merge the mac mini and mac pro in 2013. (Pipe Dream)

Why October there no screen lamination issues with the Mac mini, if we are to believe that old chestnut. The only reason I can think of is that the Mac Mini is the lowest margin computer Apple manufacture and may want to maximise profits selling 2011 technology well into 2012 to the less informed...

They probably dont want to take any sales away from the new iMac so they will release together

That doesn't wash; Cookie's supply chain wizardry has retail sipping through a very narrow straw on Macs, and a refresh occurring would not represent a loss in terms of selling what they already make. There is no, let me put it this way, no ENGINEERING reason and no LOGISTICS/DISTRIBUTION reason for the Mac Mini not already being refreshed. That leaves only marketing or future changes in the product lineup as reasons not to refresh. (shrug)

Engineering and logistics of retina iMacs?

Um, physical/cost constraints?

4 x 27" screens in the space of one at a reasonable price?

Reasonable pricing lol :D that cracks me up!

There is no such thing as it differs for everyone....it is subjective. And Retina display is only another term for HD or higher than HD. There are 4k all in ones being produced by other manufactures and that is for a 'reasonable price ie same as imacs' :p

Anyone watn to weigh in on this alleged August 7th Keynote for the next iPhone? Perhaps it's not for the iPhone?

I was under the impression that the iPhone would be released with iOS6 (but I guess Mountain Lion with no new hardware proved that software or hardware can release whenever the hell they want it to).

Does anyone think that this might be an iMac / Mac Mini release? Unless we're seeing a new design, I doubt the iMac would get a Keynote presentation. And I doubt the Mini would ever get a keynote of its own, ever. Lol.

Oh well I guess we keep waiting and waiting regardless.

Yes, I believe it is for the iMac not iPhone

Until I see a reputable source confirm an August 7th event, I'm not buying it.

Agreed ... and by the way, if ever an event will take place on August 7th, it's gonna be the announcement of the new iPhone : there's been too many leaks if you think about it ... the surprise is almost entirely gone ...

Unless this leaked iPhone is a prototype or an intended leak by Apple to throw people off it's probably pretty close to the final design we'll see in the fall.

So.. Nothing to expect for while ?

It already has a digital audio out, unless I'm not understanding. You just need the 3.5mm digital adapter (or a cable with that on one end and toslink on the other end).

You, sir, are correct. My apologies... That's crazy, even my white 2007 2.2GHz MacBook has it! I had no idea that stupid audio port had optical inside of it. Pretty sure I even have the adapter; it came with the last optical cable I purchased, but I just thought it was a protective cap! That's pretty sad and embarrassing, I know. I'm usually the smart one using technology to its fullest!

Were there seriously so posts between the 29th and the 4th?? Slow news days right now I guess... And looks like that silly rumour about an August 7th iPhone 5 launch didn't pan out either...big surprise.

I'm pretty sure lots of people don't discover that one right away. The added bonus is that the sound is pretty impressive. I hooked it up to my Logitech Z5500's and it made them come to life. They have never sounded so good. The only negative is that you have no volume control, but I have a control panel with dial for that, so not a big deal.

Another tuesday has passed, still no iMac news...

Anyway, I was just wondering which graphics cards would likely to be included in the new iMac's? I've heard about Radeon 7970m but what about a lower end one in let's say a 21"?
