Been waiting for what seams like ages now. I just hope it's the end of April. I can't wait to get going. I think if the ODD becomes optional I'll still stick with one, because I want to have just the one thing on my desk. Not lots of boxes. I was just gonna get the 21" but I'm seriously thinking about the 27" now. I've got to get a new desk and have seen lots of great set ups on this forum. I'll have to check the options and make a decision next week (hopefully). Good bye windows hello OSx!

again this is great news, Apple can't release a mbp or iMac with this card before AMD tells about it. Now that its coming Tuesday vs who knows when in May, this allows Apple to do whatever; ( * assuming this card will go into a product and not NVIDIA) Assuming so, I don't think Apple will let a mbp or iMac sit an extra month delay just to rack up station time so to speak. things are lining up for soon releases. & as far as inventory, Apple may just release stuff even if third parties aren't shouting of shortages

Im a very happy 2011 27" iMac owner, but ive seen reports of a possible retina display on the MBP and iMac range.

now i guess it could work on the MBP, but to me atleast, my iMac screen stunning, and i cant notice any pixels or anything.

would be interested to see this though.

So my analogy about a cars top speed being effectively redundant stands because the current iMac i7 will go much quicker than I need, so unless you need a minor improvement in speed I think anyone hanging out for a new one is either a mac fan boi who wants the latest, quite mad or just plain stupid!

I must just be a "fan boi" wanting the latest and greatest then. That's why I'm still using a Core Duo MacBook.

With you on that one!

Why am I patiently waiting... so in 5 or so years time when iOSX Lynx 10.10 (or whatever) comes out and no longer functions on i5 and below...
I will be able to eek out another few months on my 2012 machine while waiting patiently for my 2017/8 update to the iMacpadphonepod book pro device that we will all be yearning to come out...

It was this way back in 2007 and I am sure it will happen again - though in 2007 it felt like we knew a hell of a lot more about what was happening with the aluminium iMacs coming... this time I am finding the lack of anything iMac (at all) a bit frustrating - especially as another day, of another week of another month slips past with my saved iMac fund being perilously tempted by other nice toys.

I have a feeling that the 27" iMac is going to get a redesign.
In the recent iCloud adverts you only ever see the 21.5" iMac.
Don't you think this is because SOME physical part of the 27" iMac is going to change? They've done this sort of thing before...

Yahoo! Great news on the GPU front. Here's hoping the new iMacs ship before May 15. :D

I'm easy; all I really want is a 21" i7 iMac with the video equivalent of the 6950m and 1GB of VRAM, or better. USB 3.0 would be great, Anti-glare awesome. If they guarantee the CTO SSD upgrade is a Samsung 830 rather than a crappy SataII model, I'll even be willing to pay Apple's current SSD upgrade prices. If they make it easier to get into the damn thing myself, I'd be frikken' thrilled.

I'd be a little annoyed by the loss of the ODD, but honestly, bus-powered portable USB DVD burners are cheap. I'd just buy a top-loading model for $30 and just keep it on the bookshelf until I need it.

Neither. It's about not paying April 2011 prices for April 2011 hardware in May of 2012. When IB Macs come out, the new models will be priced much more competitively with equivalent PCs, while the clearance models of those still-great SB iMacs will get a price drop.

Honestly, I dont need a 27" screen, but the graphics card in the 21" iMac is going to go obsolete for me long before the rest of the computer does. So either I get a new 21" iMac with an acceptable graphics card, or I save a couple hundred bucks on a 27" SB iMac. Either way is worth waiting another 30-60 days.

So excited to possibly have it in the next few weeks. I was thinking we weren't gonna see one for sure till June. Hope that's not the case

I'm still waiting lol

Im upgrading from an old C2 (not duo) Mini I bought back in the start of 07.

But I thought I would finally add my $0.02 on the ODD

With the Air, and rumors of an air like MBP, why would apple remove the ODD from the iMac when they have recently implemented the Drive share function where you can use the ODD in your iMac for your laptops and mini's ect.

I just hope the don't leave it too long after D3 drops, My mini wont play D3 tried the beta this weekend and it wouldn't load haha.

Hopefully it's redesigned into a 30" or 32" model. :)

I've been nursing along my '04 pc and it's absolutely on it's last leg....heck, it has been for 2 years. I FINALLY decided to make the jump to an iMac after a demo at the Apple Store and now this. The money's burning a hole in my pocket, hoping that we see the '12 iMacs in the next month....but I guess the bottom line is that I'm waiting as long as it takes. I wouldn't be able to take the remorse if a shinier new model came out within 3 months of my purchase if I bought one now.

You waited 2 years what is another 1-20 days :)

Hopefully it's redesigned into a 30" or 32" model. :)

30" was proven too big for users to be sitting at computer distance. 32" obviously won't that is why Apple dropped their 30 model and went with 27. Sharper image on the 27 vs the 30 too.

I think there is zero chance of a redesign. Surly by now we would have pictures all over the Internet of new iMac components? If there was going to be a change in form factor or screen size, I don't think apple could have kept it under wraps.
Faster processers, bigger standard hard drive, OOD dropped for a SSD as standard (but I doubt it) and maybe a little something else we are not expecting.

It's also just as possible that they have, given that the an iMac leak is hardly as much a story outside of forums as an iPhone leak. iPhone leak makes nightly news bulletin; iMac leak does not.

Do you guys believe there is a massive chance the iMac will only come out when Mountain Lion is released?

For compatibility purposes, I need the iMac out before the osx update. I'm hoping that Apple repeat the events of last year.

Apple always takes full advantage of new technology. In this case the new GPU and IvyBridge options. It would not be wise for them to wait until the new technology is half way through its life before implementing it.

Look at the average iMac upgrade cycle. We are well beyond its average day limit now. Things are very clear Apple is waiting for the new CPU and GPU options to put in their Macs. In two days the new tech releases and shortly after there will be new iMacs.

No. Last year the iMacs came out in May and Lion came out in July. There's still no definitive release set for Mountain Lion, so I doubt they'll wait.

We have got used to iOS leaks, but Apple has always been much better at Mac secrecy. There are no phone network operators to keep in the loop, much lower unit volumes, no need for extensive signal testing in public, bigger components that are harder to sneak out of a factory, and so on.
