1)27" imac
2)21.5" imac and an extra 21/24" monitor.

When you have a need for all that real estate, the dual-monitor split down the middle is really obnoxious. Whether editing source code with long complex lines, or full-size 1080p video plus toolbars, or large zoomed images, or whatever monolithic content which exceeds individual screen resolution, suffering a 1-2" gap right down the middle does degrade productivity.

I'm using dual monitors right now. It's great for doing "thing A vs. thing B" and giving each a full screen (say, compile/edit on one side and execution performance output on the other); might even be nice to add "vs. thing C" on a third monitor. Point, however, is multi-monitor is great if you're doing multiple tasks which each demand their own monitor.

Examine your own needs. If you're running a bunch of medium-size-window applications and want at least two up taking an entire monitor each, go for multiple smaller monitors. If you're going to work on "big stuff", get the monster screen. Of course, you can add a second monitor later in any case ... but you can't easily make a monitor bigger. 27", here I come...

Ok guys, what are your final thoughts, for web design:

1)27" imac

2)21.5" imac and an extra 21/24" monitor.

I'm starting to think that the second option is more feasible cost wise and might give me even more space to work but the ooh ahh of the 27inch has a certain draw to it.

Also know that multiple monitors in lion isn't great.

Q2 conference!!!!

I'm listening to it and they just said that the osx mountain lion is coming out in late summer. Mabey they will say something about iMacs! I know it's not probable but Mabey they will!

Well I've not heard a thing about new iMacs. They are now on the Q & A and I'm sure if they were going to mention it, they wouldn't wait for some journo to ask the right question. I'm now guessing May earliest. Really hoped it was gonna happen today.

The closest thing they said was when they were talking about the 28nm and if Apple is having any constraints with the new products. Tim dodged the question and basically said something like in the past Apple tries to get these ASAP sometimes this is successful and sometimes not. ... :( I am still thinking early-mid May

If you thought it would be announced on an analysts call, you're nuts. But, here's the oblique reference:

Tim Cook said:
For gross margin guidance, we're pleased to be providing guidance of 41.5% for the quarter, expect 2/3 of the decline to be driven by higher mix of iPads and Macs, full quarter of selling the iPad lineup, and loss of leverage on lower revenue. Remainder of difference between one-time items that occurred in March instead of June.

Only reason to expect a higher mix of Macs is having most of a quarter selling a refreshed model. We know most notebook CPUs don't come out until June, so this has to be an iMac reference.

Say what? So what does that mean...?

I want standard ssd, maybe a refreshed look, screaming fast gpu's and less defective screens.

They plan to have slightly lower corporate profits in the second quarter, because they plan to sell a higher-percentage of iPads and Macs than usual, and those products don't have the same profit level as iPhones.

If they plan to sell more Macs than usual in the second quarter, then they plan to do a refresh of at least one of the models earlier in the second quarter.

Intel's chip plans mean most of the MacBook line couldn't come out until very late in the second quarter. The Sandy Bridge Xeon that Mac Pro needs is nowhere to be found. Deductive reasoning therefore concludes that early in the second quarter, we will see either an iMac refresh, or a brand new product that has somehow managed to escape being leaked. My money's on the iMac.

Given that it's already late in the "early" second quarter, I would be surprised if we don't see new systems in the next 2 weeks.

Edit: I guess I should acknowledge that Mac Mini's exist. But the entry level on those have more in common with the MBAs than the iMacs.

To everyone who couldn't get the diablo 3 beta running due to "unsupported graphics card" there is a fix! There is nothing wrong with your hardware/drivers, Blizzard is just locking us out !

http://www.diablofans.com/topic/280...cause-this-card-is-missing-required-features/

Page 2 is the fix, changing 2 values in a txt document and we're in !

Abit late maybe seeing as the beta is over now, but I got the beta running (and ran like a dream on low settings) on my X1600M 128mb.

...crap.

Well, At least now I know. If I have to wait well past the 15th to get a new iMac, I can at least hack it to work on my old one (Same model as yours I think).

Sorry for being off topic:
If it is indeed the same model you can use this version of ATItool to overclock it to get best performance. http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/259/
This is the only verison I've found that supports x1600m. I've had mine OC'd to 500/500 for years now, so it's perfectly safe. It comes underclocked as standard.

Have fun

Not quite correct. Apple uses low-power desktop processors for the Mac Mini. The newly released Ivy Bridge lineup actually includes such CPUs (T and S series). So the parts for an updated Mac Mini should be available.

In the last few weeks Apple replaced the fan in the Mac Mini..,

Damn, can't wait for the the new Imac's to arrive. Hoping that someone buys my PC soon, so i dont have to wait like a month before someone buys it, so i can afford the Imac.

It will be my first Apple product, and will be used for Producing Music.

I hope to see SSD + HDD as standard, aswell as 8 GB as standard on the high end model.

Can't wait to get into producing on a Imac using Logic 9.

Noting that WWDC is scheduled for June 11, I'm betting that that's when Apple might release some major updates to their hardware lineup. Again I could be wrong as Apple does like to give us surprises......

I have to make a movie but my computer render time for a half hour video would be like 15+ hours, hoping the new iMac comes out before mid-May so i can work with descent amount of time still on my hand. :apple:

I image it will come before then. We are crawling out the last big of this product cycle now.
Saying that though, we never know, and you could be right, but I hope you're not, I want it now.

WWDC seems to be all software again, plus the iMac cycle is nearly a year-longest ever + CPU and GPU parts are now ready. I don't see Apple waiting since those items are here, let alone disgracing wwdc focus away from software

Since i just started looking for an IMac 1 month ago, i have no idea how the releases went in the past ?

How did it happen ? No official shout outs from Mac, saying something about the new product ?

Did the new Imac last year just show up in the apple store, just like that ?

I find it kinda wierd, that the new IMac's maybe show up any minute, no countdown nothing ;)

And btw why Tuesday ? Is there is explanation for that ?
