Who cares if they stop us upgrading the RAM? Easy solution - when you buy the iMac, spec it out with maximum RAM. Then you won't ever need to upgrade it...
Since the Mac Pro looks to be ended, it would be interesting to see an iMac Pro thrown into the mix. Maybe even keeping an iMac and adding the iMac pro as the higher model, sort of how the macbooks were.
The announcement of a retina iMac leads to the need for a better GPU to drive the graphics, correct? Wouldn't it be nice to see an iMac Pro redesigned with a removed ODD to make room for a larger GPU (possibly desktop GPU)?
I know, unlikely, but seems plausible.
notice how the wwdc invite isnt full of ios aps nor the tagline centerer on software. Shiller of course said well see info about ios osx but duh wont give away secret.
With all the colors, ap like shapes , long delay for mid 2012 mac + the tagline + each tues wed passes with no hardware update( but finally mac info coming) wwdc makes sense for new macs
Thinner Retina mbp , maybe retina or resolution + thinner specced up imac
The question is, would imac come at wwdc too, likely yes now. Will the new macs be ready for purcahse that day or 7-10 more days! Uggg
Last. mountain lion- if ML isnt ready, i say that because i have friends and family using the latest dev preview and say its not near primetime, buggy. Then would macs be delayed to purcahse till its ready? Frikkin would suck to have it announced yet not purchasable

I've been reading all of these posts and am dying for a redesigned/ refreshed iMac. I work for a certain retail store that sells computers that have a fruit logo on them
I'm happy to let you guys know that the wait may just be coming to an end for the iMac specifically. After speaking to another employee in charge of stocking, I was told that iMacs were running "very low." We're even sold out of a lot of the 27" models and haven't received them in the last few shipments.
According to him, this is indicative of a very imminent refresh. Now of course, we're told nothing ahead of time, so I'm still here waiting for something to come up.
You all may take this as a troll post, but I assure you, I'm being genuine.

So you think before WWDC?Created a throwaway account to post this.

Exactly as the surprise of the retina mbp display would be reduced if we already saw one in an iMac.I'm sure you're genuine. But the thing we're trying to establish, Mr., is whether "imminent" means next week, or part of a grand splash in June along side the MBP. If retina rumors are to be believed, it would be odd to do a silent refresh on the iMac and then a grand presentation of the MBP at WWDC.

I wish I had all the answers, but alas I am like all of you in that I hear about these things as they happen, or at most, a couple nights before.
As for the iMac refresh being at WWDC, I personally don't expect that for a couple reasons. We aren't running low on MacBook Pros or Airs at the moment and they are both selling fairly well. The iMacs aren't just out of stock, they aren't selling.
Now as for the retina display being introduced in an iMac before WWDC, I don't find that all too unlikely. At WWDC, assuming new MBP's and Air's are introduced, it will be their redesign that will be touted as the major difference and not the display. If they are in fact redesigned altogether, then the retina display will simply be another awesome addition and not the killer upgrade.
Also, as many have stated before, Apple won't upgrade their entire computer lineup at once. They never, ever do this. And if recent rumors are to be believed, the notebooks are to receive attention this WWDC.
I expect iMacs before then, personally. It would only make sense to upgrade them before the end of the month so that Apple can stagger their releases in conjunction with their sales quarters.
Although not explained very clearly, this is a good strategy if you assume that the next generation Intel processors (Haswell) will be the big step up and you really can't wait a whole year for your next machine. What @inscrewtable is suggesting is buying the 2011 iMac as soon as the 2012 iMac comes out, then selling it in 12-15 months time to fund the purchase of Haswell machine. Which you can keep for many years. Also helped by the fact Ivy Bridge processors don't really pack a stronger punch for desk tops compared to the 2011 version Sandy bridge.
Here is my educated guess.
For the past few days, we've seen rumors of retina macs, be it the MBA, the MBP or the iMac. We've also seen reference in OS X Mountain Lion for HiDPI icons. My guess is Apple will announce to developers at WWDC that retina is coming they will then give the resolutions for devs to start updating there software. Apple might unveil a computer at WWDC. If not the macs will be released over the course of the summer.
Thoughts?
