NO that would suck. No more waiting

No need. The new iPad came with higher resolution and some developers where ready others weren't. There's no point in delaying just for higher rez artwork that can be updated later.

Waiting is never fun. What are you going to do about it. To Nuckinfutz your point is valid in that case maybe they doing both working on retina and "one more thing."

Long time follower, first time poster, soon to be first time iMac owner.

Thank you everyone who posts here and keeps making me more excited each day, followed by a brief disappointment each Tuesday after no launch...yet.
I feel like a kid waiting for Xmas.
Looking forward to using Photoshop on a 27" iMac!

Cheers.

I am still gunning for 22nd or 29th May although my probabilities have now changed to 10% tomorrow, 50% 22nd, 20% 29th May, 10% June 12th, 5% June 19th, 5% June 26th

Why tomorrow just 10%?

Was so confident it wouldn't be yesterday, I was out all day! Am getting very excited for next Tuesday though...has genuinely been my base case scenario for weeks so the moment of truth arrives

Hey mac gurus, what was the method of release for the last major redesign of the iMac (2009). Large scale announcement? Silent? Small scale announcent preceded by controlled leaks?

I think it's gonna be announced at the wwdc. It's only 3 weeks away.

Yeah, I'm actually hoping for a wwdc release purely because it would confirm that something big is coming. 3 weeks is nothing if we get a major upgrade, whether this includes retina or not.

I hope it is next week, or at least I want to know the specs by then. I may opt for the current iMac at a discounted price. It all depends on the graphics card, and the SSD upgrade price. The 27" screen already looks great, so if the main upgrade is only the screen then I'll get the old one.

I agree. Especially after yesterdays rumours of Retina display.

I don't really want a retina display on it. It's gonna completely ruin the gaming capability of the 7970m pushing that many pixels, and yes I know I'll be able to downscale the resolution but thats not as seamless as I would like.

If not soon then wwdc keynote better unveil macs. With thos long delay i wouldnt doubt Apple pissing us off with only ios osx and maybe a mbp

The thing is, i dont think that the retina will really take part in gaming that much. The retina was mainly there to help sharpen the GUI and text. So in the end if they do quadruple the resolution, you can safely play at the non-retina resolution of 1920 by 1080 (21.5") or at 2560 by 2440 (27") and it still look fine because it will fit precisely how it did before. :)

The only concern i can think of, and like many others have stated, would be if the cost of the machine were to increase. :(

Somehow i can't imagine Apple bringing a Retina display to the iMac yet. maybe next generation. at least if the GeekBench scores were correct. if the MacBookPro9,0 identifier means its a redesign compared to the current 8,3 model - iMac13,2 means it looks the same as the last two generations. i would highly doubt that they would change something as substantial as the display and just bump the refresh identifier by one?

Best regards

It doesn't work that way. The 13,2 means generation 13th, model 2, that means the following:

2012 iMac 21" ( or what ever new screen size) is the iMac 13,1
2012 iMac 27" ( or what ever new screen size) is the iMac 13,2

The current iMacs are 12,X. 12,1 for the 21" and 12,2 for the 27"

Keep in mind although the first number changes with every new generation, it doesn't mean an external redesign, the 2009 iMac were 10,X

The longer we wait the more I think it will be announced at the WWDC. i know this isn't normal practice but things are different no SJ isn't there. Who is to say they won't be announcing Macs this year.
I think I remeber it being Jobs' decision to stop introducing Macs at the MacWorld conference a while ago. Hell they don't attend officially any more. Maybe my memory is decieving me?

The smart money has to be wagered on WWDC now — retina upgrades across the entire Mac range is something worthy of a little bally-hoo.

Agreed! WWDC is still pretty close for those that can wait it out in hopes of new displays, USB3.0 and Ivy Bridge.

Wasn't the first Macbook Pro released at WWDC? I had June some time in my heart when nothing came by the end of April.

Yeah, good points. I think there could be a big song and dance about the new 2012 Macs. Anyone remember at the end of the new iPad keynote, Tim Cook said that 2012 is a big year for Apple and there is more to come.
Just a thought.
Been waiting since last summer for a re-design, I can hold on a while longer. :D

Yes, and the invite said "the week we've all been waiting for" and for me this refers to more than 'just' iOS and OS X developer discussions... I think now (although unprecedented) that we might be in for a complete Mac refresh as WWDC.

I just hope we get more news and info on new macs until wwdc vs going dark again for a while

Also that new macs are ready to ship when announced

Cook and analysts said expect the june qtr to be a mix of ipads and higher macs

That has to mean hardware ships in june and not announced but held till July for ML or later

Back to school promo too

Created a throwaway account to post this.

I've been reading all of these posts and am dying for a redesigned/ refreshed iMac. I work for a certain retail store that sells computers that have a fruit logo on them

I'm happy to let you guys know that the wait may just be coming to an end for the iMac specifically. After speaking to another employee in charge of stocking, I was told that iMacs were running "very low." We're even sold out of a lot of the 27" models and haven't received them in the last few shipments.

According to him, this is indicative of a very imminent refresh. Now of course, we're told nothing ahead of time, so I'm still here waiting for something to come up.

You all may take this as a troll post, but I assure you, I'm being genuine.

Well for imminent and little stock this week failed. Next week is the last chance before wwdc in my opinion. So well see. Find out anything post back

The October 2009 iMac (where they moved to 21.5"/27") was by press release. They came out on the 20th, though other sites had the date predicted as the 9th.

Hey guys I haven't really been following the iMac rumors as I am updating my MacBook pro and iPhone this year, heres my questions is the iMac getting a radical facelift and thinner body like the rumored iPhone and MacBook, is it dumping the optical disk drive in favor of this slimness what about Mouse and keyboard will we see changes there with the rumored adding of bluetooth 4.0.

The answers to these questions and more will be revealed when Apple announces the product, anywhere between next Tuesday and a month from next Tuesday.

Read this thread. HTH.

If Retina really is coming to almost all Macs, WWDC does make sense. I know, i know. It's a software conference. I get that. But we're so close to WWDC that it doesn't make sense to hold a separate event. It also doesn't make sense to do a silent update for something so big. The last option, which makes no sense as well, is to hold off until after WWDC and do an event several weeks later. Besides, announcing it at WWDC makes more sense than holding off for Mountain Lion anyway.
