Now, we have agreed that the 7970m is current tech and available.

"Now" doesn't enter into it. This was never in dispute.

We are disagreed as to how playable Crysis2 is. One thing I am sure of though is that current games ARE going to be playable at 2560x1440 with the 7970m. Not all games are as demanding as Crysis2. The likes of COD Black Ops2 and Diablo III will play at full rez with all the eye candy turned up to the max.

And Alien vs Predator runs at about 14fps at that res on similar chips. It depends on the game.

I think we are both pretty much in agreement that a retina iMac is just plain silly.
:D

Amen to that ;-)

I haven't seen much talk about the possible GPUs in the 21.5". What's the best guess on the tier 2 iMac 21.5"? Is the 7770m the best candidate? Assuming of course that they'll go with AMD..

all this waiting is seriously killing me...
Imo apple would definately make more money by anouncing the imac 2012 release date cause those who dont want to wait that long would buy now and the other would wait anyway...
at this point everybody is waiting for an update and nowbody knows how long it will be...

i don't think retina is that possible for a 27" screen yet, well see
but what I do think could be possibly better imo, is that the high end or highest end 27" would come standard with the OS on an ssd?

anyone think default hdd/ssd combo this time ?

i hope you're right..maybe just on Laptop..

better an "old 27 "display" with a new 7970m:D

shipping dates slip a bit more

Hi to all,

just mentioning that BTO shipping dates in Apple Store Canada slipped today from 2-4 business days (been like that for the past 20 or something) to 3-5 business days. for the 27'' at least.

may or may not mean anything. just my $0.02

BTO shipping dates remain 1-3 days in Western Europe, afaik.

Last night I had a dream. Well, a nightmare. (I'm not making this up.) Apple gave me the world premiere sneak preview of the 2012 iMac. Its internals stay practically the same but prices rise some 10-15%, it sits directly on its chin on your desk (so no stand) backed by some coloured semi-see-thru plastic thingie, no more unibody, still aluminium casing but brushed, has plastic edges left/right/top/bottom that're coloured (lime green, candy pink or crazy cyan to choose from, white isn't even optional), no retina. It looked so horrible that I didn't think about the 2012 iMac for one second, all day long, and it was Tuesday today!

Hurry up and take my money

I just checked the Canadian Apple Store and the BTO shipping times for every model says 3-5 business days now.

I checked Future Shop and the base model is out of stock in the three closest locations, while the other models are in stock at most locations, however every model is on sale. I checked Best Buy as well and some models are in stock and some aren't in the two closest locations. No sale at Best Buy though.

Bestbuy slashed prices

Are these shipping times not just changing at the end of every week to allow for weekend delays? It seems shipping times keep slipping and then going back. To be honest, in my mind I have accepted we won't get anything until WWDC, and life has been much better. :D

I sure wish I could adopt this point of view or at the very least convince myself to stop visiting this site every hour seeking out more information...

WWDC will demo Mountain Lion and one more thing will be retina MBP with redesigned case. On same day without any fanfare or mention during WWDC keynote, updated iMacs will be released but not retina.

Source?

Yes.. Source??

I read a article today saying that because the iMac is situated further away from you it's already 89% retina. I can see "retina" Happing on iMac.

What I've read has said that you would need to sit at least 32 inches away from the 27 inch iMac to get the "retina" effect. Most people probably sit close to that anyway, so retina iMacs (especially the 27 inch display) really don't make sense. Not sure how far you'd need to sit away from the 21.5 inch to get retina, but probably not too different than the 27 (ratio-wise).

Why would they hold off on iMacs if it's just a spec bump? Just release them and get that out of the way. Makes no sense at all. They never hold off laptops for desktops or vice versa any other time. Why would they now?

Which is why I think now at this point in the game, that it's got to be more than just a spec bump. I'd like to believe that Apple will reveal a redesigned iMac at WWDC.

Because maybe - devil's advocate - they won't make any changes at all. The more I think about it, with the examples of the Mac pro and the iPod Classic, once Apple reaches a level where it's pretty much 'up there' and incremental gains are likely to be in the 10-15% gains, they don't follow the rules and just sit tight. Especially for low volume products.

Or this, could be the other way of looking at it. Already the Apple store business specialist services (this was offered to me YESTERDAY at the Regents street store) offer the removal of the optical drive and the insertion in its place a SSD drive in iMacs so PERHAPS losing the ODD is part of the redesign. To gain 256GB SSD as standard.
