I have maintained right from the beginning, the iMac gets retina display in 2013 along with a design overhaul to accommodate the display and increased cooling requirements. This year will be a relatively safe upgrade, rather like what we have seen for the preceding 3 or 4 years, better CPU & GPU, USB 3 still retains the optical drive.

Macbook Pros, likely we'll see retina displays in 2012.

Just my theory and I have no inside knowledge at all.

I don't see the Superdrive remaining as an integrated item The Macbook Air is reported to be as high as 25% of all Mac laptop sales and the Mac mini went sans ODD and there was no uproar.

The Mac App Store is in full swing. I see little reason to make another generation of iMacs with yet another moving part that will eventually break.

Would this be an Apple Store salesperson employed to sell you a Mac today?

Nope, just ended up talking about the rumours an what she was hoping for from the new one, she was just as in the dark as we are but at least ruled out the fact they were sat in the store room ready to go (unless she lied :( )

I guess there's an chance they'll drop it this revision but to be replaced by what? They can already fit an SSD in the case and I can't see them including a desktop GPU as that has bigger cooling ramifications - 2013 we'll say goodbye to the optical drive as they herald in new design and retina displays. I would have thought if the iMac was getting a radical makeover this revision we would have seen some leaked pictures of new parts etc by now. As far as retina displays go the cost of one for a display of 27" and the heat generated by increased backlight and better GPU doesn't make sense in the current design - the iMac already runs a little hot.

Hopefully for those who are awaiting the 2012 revision I'll be proven completely wrong but I have my doubts this iMac revision, although a nice bump, is going to be that radical.

I'd agree with that, I know everyone uses their computer for completely different things, but me personally, I haven't used my disc drive for a few years now. Anything I need to get I can download, the whole physical media thing is all but dead now. I understand alot of people prefer their music as something try can hold in their hand, but to those id suggest vinyl, better sound and more 'pleasing' to own. (coming from someone born in the 80's) maybe being forced to buy a SuperDrive will make whoever is left reconsider whether the actually need it or if it's just a nicety to have whilst wasting valuable space in an already slim all in one. (I'll just sit here and wait to be heckled ;) )

Well until flac downloads are commonplace, anyone with any interest in hifi needs a drive to rip cd's. Why on earth the major record labels don't all offer flac downloads is completely beyond me. It's almost like they want to *encourage* people to go to Torrentz.

What kind of price drop do you think we'll see on the current refurbs once the new ones are announced?

I don't even know why I'm asking this, I know once the new ones are announced I will want nothing less:rolleyes:

Same goes for movies, until people are given a real alternative they will never stop people doing it. I'm sure they just see any form of download as dangerous to their business, but it must be far more harmful to them as they currently do things. With people downloading illegally. Why would anyone want to buy a DVD for £10 when within 5 mins It can be downloaded (for free). I've got no problem with paying for the content I want, just offer it to me in the format I want.

We need to see an option to either choose a 1tb hdd or a 120/256 gb ssd. On all of the option not just the three higher models.

The Development of the Last weeks are pushend me to the Point that i dont think sbout the release Date anymore, but Thinking about the price of the next iMac.

I have just about 2000€ on my extra Account and i want an iMac 27 with 7970m, but when Apple is going to force "Retina", the Price will Take a Big Step up. :(

I Hope this is not going to happen..:(

Agreed! One of the things that I'm excited for more than just processor bumps is a dual SSD configuration. The Mac Mini has been teasing me with it's current BTO options.

Oh and if we can get rid of the ODD, I'd love for an SSD/SSD/HDD configuration please, Apple. :)

If this ends up just being a speed bump and little else, this will be a very good question. I think there is a good chance that the 27" SB i7 2011 will still be a strong competitor.

Just checked... the Apple store appears to be down!

Down to business, I mean.... The same old business its been doing for over a year, selling old iMacs to unsuspecting n00bs!

I don't know why, but as cruel as that was, I was compelled to up vote your post :D

I've silently been reading this forum for months as I am also waiting for the new iMac - somewhat patiently.

I believe that we will see the new iMacs at the WWDC because I think Apple wants to avoid what happened with Mac OS Lion last summer and instead want the new iMacs to ship with Mountain Lion from the start.

Just my 2 cents.

That makes no sense. Mountain Lion is not going to be released at WWDC.

Yes they are.

You can order one from Dell today.

My, we are going around in loops aren't we.

The most powerful MOBILE chip available today is the 7960m. M.

You cannot play games like Crysis2 at 2560x1440 on high settings on a 7960m at acceptable frame rates.

So no, they are not.

Well, a friend just recieved the new Alienware m17x with an 7970m......

Usually the UK online store is a good sign, and I am afraid to say that at 08.00 (BST) there were no signs of the store being down. So we move on to the 29th then...
