If people weren't bothered with the notch on the side of the phones that they stare at for hours, they're not going to be bothered with a square on the side of the phone that they don't stare at.
Your notch is on the side? Also the square is at the top. You may view it horizontally and I hope you take pictures horizontally but still the notch is at the top with the ugly square. It bothers me because in my view its a damn ugly design and I like something that looks good in my view, not an after thought.

So boring this year. I’m tempted to stick with my Xs

Sure you’re. You know damn well you are going to stay up until 3am EST to preorder. That’s what most do. Complain, complain, and complain some more, yet they still have the urge and need to buy the newest and latest phone. This is why Apple shouldn’t change anything.

I have to admit the square arrangement of cameras is growing on me. I’m very happy with my XR, especially running iOS 13 so I’ll skip 2019, and it sounds like 2020 will be the big year upgrade wise for the iPhone in both form and features.

Fisher-Price preschool camera block... *sigh*... hoping 2020 doesn’t see this, will have to wait until then to find out.

That logic doesn't make sense (at least to me) - are you saying people will buy ugly cars because, from the inside, they can't see how ugly they are on the outside? Product design (at least for me, and hopefully, for many others) is extremely important in the buying process. I can't speak for others, but I will certainly not be buying this year's iPhone, if that is the final design - don't care about how great any of the other feature may be.

I understand and I agree, but if it is a waste, it’s mine to waste if I choose to do so. I give around 40% of my yearly income to relief work and I spend over 5 months a year working in 3rd world countries doing relief work. Been doing it for 25 years this coming October. So, if I decide to spend my money on something I don’t feel bad about it at all. Waste is a matter of opinion. But yes, I understand your point.

I have friends that believe it’s a waste to use more than two squares of toilet paper per trip to the bathroom. That’s cool for them...
No it isn’t

Not really

People still want iPhones based on performance, updates, support and generally being smoother and having better quailty apps.

Pixel 4 look like they are copying this design as well so lets not act like this might not be the look going forward for other android devices.

Precisely, I bought an iPhone XS Max over an android flagship because the iPhone has more premium components as well compared to the android flagships.

Pixels sell less than a million units a year and they are the first to copy apples new design. Don’t think it’s going to help their sales much.

You guys are living in the past. The new Samsung screens were a game changer. Exactly 0 Android flagships in 2019 feature an iPhone like notch. In reality, Apple will adopt Android design in a year with the 2020 iphones.

Sure some android flagships this year don’t have a notch but they have a dated chin. Fact is if you want 3d facial recognition your going to have a notch or a bezel.

Not really. In fact almost all android flagships have copied the 2017 Phone X rear design, even the new note looks like the iPhone from the rear, they moved the camera to the same place as the iPhone X/Xs and copied the camera bump.

I think you will find for the last few years there has been plenty of stock at launch, the Xs was available for hours after launch in the UK. Also why update to the same design with a lightning cable and a big square on the back when next year you can get 5G and USB-C etc and a new design.iPhone owners are a lot more cynical now, and at the price of these phones less willing to spend for not much gain, and 2019 iPhones don't seem that special no matter what snake oil Apple have used.

How do you know that, you cant just say it mas more premium parts and then that magically makes it true. You have to back that assumption up.

No point using an analogy.

Plenty of people on here don't like the notch but iPhone X, XS and XR have sold tens of millions - and the notch is on the front of the device.

People will care even less about the rear.

You've clearly misread my comment. Go back and read it again.

3d facial recognition, stainless steel body, 120hz touch sensing display, nvme storage, 7nm soc with 8core gpu, Dolby vision and hdr 10 capable display etc etc, are all premium hardware components not found on android flagships. It’s not magic it’s premium hardware no assumptions needed.

It’s just that you know major changes are coming in 2020. Qualcomm. 5g. Rumors of Touch ID and no notch.

The 2019 iPhone basically has a one year life and should be considered a poor buy. Everyone in my family knows this is a skip year. Of course none of them really asked or cared. That’s a first. I think the phone upgrade excitement era is a bit over.

People needing to upgrade: "I love it!"
People that just upgraded: "I hate it!"

And so the world continues to turn, another year, all the same comments from people in each group.

I don't care for the arrangement of the camera's, I believe competitors did it better, but in these photos I finally saw the hidden Mickey so that makes it less garish, lol. I've never done the annual iPhone upgrade, and I did just upgrade last November, but I'm sure the camera improvements will be well worth the price of the larger camera bump. The bump is already there so I don't quite understand why people are so upset about it gaining in size; it will also gain new functions. Some of the same complainers would probably not be upset about an iPhone as thick as the bump if it included a larger battery.

Exactly 0 Android phones feature an iPhone like edge to edge screen and secure face ID. The completely bezelless smartphone is by no means an "Android design". Everybody and their mother could come up with that design ever since the trend has been solidified as going bezelless.

It won't stop me from buying one (although I may skip '19) but it also won't stop me from saying the back of the phone looks ugly. Nothing about the aesthetics invokes feelings of "this device looks amazing, I would like one!"

Probably not enough new hotness to justify me upgrading from my XS. Also, looking at the story about NSO, I remember why I dumped MR for AI with their arbitrary line for commenting on "political" posts.

And you know the price of these and cost per unit? Stainless isn't that expensive, FaceID is in its second year so I imagine will be cheaper to produce now, I can think of 8 android phones that support HDR10 the Galaxy S10 supports Dolby Vision along with a quite few others so nothing special there. So I think the "are all premium hardware components not found on android flagships" isn't entirely true. Always helps to do some research first.

Just chiming in to say how pathetically predictable the comments are.

Oh you noticed that camera, huh? How clever of you. It couldn't possible be that every single photo is a direct shot of the camera and all they want you to talk about is the camera. Couldn't possibly.

Why no pics of the front, considering that is what you will look at 100% of the time? Oh that's right, because it is unchanged, and wouldn't generate any clicks, or any arguments.

Tech rags like this one are pathetic.
