Clearly some people care. Whether the some is 1, 2, 10, 100, 1000 or a million is unknown. Also these forums can be s bit of an echo chamber, so there’s that.

I hear you, though I will point out that Apple wouldn't do otherwise minor bumps that prominently featured camera improvements if their marketing research didnt show people cared at least a little about it

I would be fine with this camera system if it weren't a bump. I know it's tight in there but the wobbling of it to me is crazy - and no, I don't use a case - GO NAKED!

Also is it just me or do the new cameras each look HUGE? If you look at the size of the flash on the current XS max the lenses are only slightly larger but on this new one they all look like huge PANCAKES - what gives?!

Aesthetically, to me it looks bad. Obviously I'll get it and the photos will be amazing, but generally these kinds of things only lend credibility to the well-held belief that Tim Apple isn't innovative...

For the first time in many years it is nice to completely ignore new iPhones. Happily keeping my XR until 2020.

I got the Dolby Vision part wrong, hey hands up to that, but premium is subjective as well.[/IMG]

You got a lot of things wrong should probably take your own advice and “research first”.

A Phone is either premium or not.

Android phones have Dolby vision and Atmos and a NPU, it does not matter how many cores it has, and its a damn good one too.[/IMG]

Actually android flagships do not support Dolby vision. That’s the point I was making android flagships are missing premium features even though they are Charging the same prices.

S10 for example missing Dolby vision, nvme based storage, 3d facial recognition, cheaper aluminum versus stainless steel etc etc. For the same price.

Actually how many cores makes a huge difference and that’s not subjective.
The point was you said no Android phones have these features and yes they do some have some of those features even though most phone users would not even know. One thing though is the intel modem in our phones, that isn't premium is it, and nor is this emoji

Yes I said: flagship android phones don’t have these premium hardware components, the iPhone does.

No android doesn’t have some of the premium components I listed, that’s my point.

You seem to make a lot of things up, good luck with that.

I mean, people do actually care though, which is pretty obvious just from reading this thread.... Also from the fact that people buy the phones....
Nope. People care about what they're told to care about. If there weren't daily articles for 6 months with a picture of a camera housing, no one would give a sht. They would just buy the phone, say 'that's a lot of camera', and then turn it around and use it and never care again.

Premium, ShPremium... such meaningless adjective (used also in-here as a noun).
Mate, news at BBCWorldRadio:
"The only iPhone premium that really matters to Apple is the profit margin imposed on the acolytes by Tim Cook and friends."

[I enjoy Apple mobile devices for their daily utility. Couldn't care less for those premium components you dwell on as they do not add in aggregate (for me) the functionality and utility of my MBP.]

Your post make very little sense.

The premium components in aggregate is what makes the iPhone a utility that works. You couldn’t care less but apple does and because they cared about the components you and other iPhone users who do not care can still enjoy using an iPhone.

Profit margin is at 38% mate, has been for a while.
Guess the shadow doesn’t know.

LOL. This is basically treading water. Why in the world would someone who bought a phone last year upgrade?

Are you serious? Ever heard of the iPhone Upgrade program. I can easily afford $120, for the taxes, to get a new iPhone each year. A new battery alone makes it worth it, not to mention updated hardware. Hmmmmm, maybe you are poor.

Not too excited about that epic camera square. Wish Apple would eliminate the camera bump, thicken the phone a little and put in a larger battery. Oh and at these prices, use actual sapphire lens instead of the stuff that has a hardness closer to regular glass. Speaking of glass, dump the glass backing for ceramic. If Apple wants to charge a premium, the product needs to actually differentiate that premium from everyone else. Lastly, please Apple, get those storage prices back down to Earth.

Sapphire is a possibilities for those lens, the problem is manufacturing scale.

Ceramic are more brittle than hardened Glass. Not to mention there are more investment in harden glass and provides clear roadmap in improvement.

This seems like it is setting up to be a fairly unimpressive upgrade cycle.

I am betting this year will be all about Internal and Spec upgrade. That is everything from CPU, GPU, NPU, Memory, NAND Speed, WiFI, Speaker, Antenna, Modem, Taptic Engine, Fast Charge Controller, Face ID 2.0, Camera, Display, and new iOS 13.

Basically apart from the looks and design, everything under the hood, including the materials used will be different in this year's iPhone.

While this is all just a guess, iPhone XS to iPhone 11 should be a better upgrade than iPhone X to iPhone XS.

U forgot a zero!

How is Apple going to sell these ?

IMO, unless they offer some creative financing that lets people off the hook when the 2020 models arrive, I don't see Apple selling many of them (i.e., the 2019 models) !

The iPhone X had/has a beautiful design. It was a step in a good direction and this just seems like it's undoing all of that. The front will most likely still look good, but the camera setup looks like a major leap backward ... it's just ugly and bulky looking. I really hope that's not how the phones will look in reality, though it's highly likely they will.

Beside the fact this design being insanely bad aesthetically - if this is true - WHY on earth would they need a square bump for the XR? Could they not just use the current design?

At some point you have to decide if you want to make an iPhone or an iCamera because it's a little ridiculous when you force your phone into a camera just because you can. The camera is an accessory. Put a port on the back and let the user choose.

I think I'm going to have to go with the OnePlus 7 Pro this upgrade cycle. I hate android, however at this point I'm going to have to give it a try. I can always return it if I don't like it. This iPhone looks like hot garbage, and I haven't been impressed with my iPhone XS Max.

How do you know you hate android if as you say, “I’m going to have to give it a try”
