I hope they keep the charging port exactly where it is but add wireless charging.

For some reason I love the ABSOLUTE OUTRAGE about a charging port you use for a few minutes a month. :)
And those "few minutes" always seems to be when you're behind schedule or rushed and need your now dead mouse working NOW. Hard to do with the charge port on the bottom.

Weirdly it’s the most comfortable mouse out there for me. But you’re supposed to hold it loosely and push it around and not exactly grip it like you would a standard mouse. I charge it for 15 minutes on a random coffee break once a month to last 8-hour work days so I couldn’t care less about the port’s position. If anything I prefer it there aesthetically because charging it is something you do so rarely.
What is aesthetically displeasing about having the charge port at the head of the mouse? I use a slim generic mouse with a USB-C charge port under the buttons and apart from when I plug it in, I've never seen that port during normal use.

While the Magic Mouse switched from Lightning to USB-C last year, the charging port is still located on the bottom of the mouse, which prevents it from being used while charging. This is only a minor inconvenience, as charging the mouse is a quick and infrequent process, but it sounds like Apple will finally relocate the port.

Magic mouse is great for regular mac usage, surfing etc, but as soon as you do anything productivg, it falls as flat as design. And so i have have 2 mouse. I magic mouse for regular usage and 2nd basic logitech mouse for productivity. A redesign is much needed, a design beyond Steve/Ivy and moe towards being usable.

Hope the new shape is something closer to the old Pro Mouse/"Mouse"/Mighty Mouse's shape. They're way more comfortable with the way I hold the mouse compared to the Magic Mouse.

Other than the scroll ball that got dirty and quit working all the time, I loved the mighty mouse.

The Magic Mouse is so trash that Apple users are convinced that Trackpads are better than mice!
Apple trackpad is useful. While not better than a good mouse, it’s good enough for a typical on-the-go laptop use when bringing a mouse and finding a place to use it is a hassle.

But in a docked configuration, mouse beats trackpad.

Just not the Magic Mouse. It may not really be magic, but its certainly… “special”.

The location of charging port is the least of its drawbacks, for me at least. Ergonomically it’s beyond awful.

I've been using Magic Mouse for years when processing/editing my image files in Lightroom everyday. Zero issues. A joy to use.

Not so with the Logitech mouse I purchased on a whim a couple years ago.

Apple is reportedly working on a new Magic Mouse. Below, we recap what to expect.

The two key rumors for the Magic Mouse 3 so far include a relocated charging port, along with a more ergonomic design.

It was briefly rumored that the Magic Mouse 3 would also feature voice control, but that was misinterpreted information.

Relocated Charging Port

While the Magic Mouse switched from Lightning to USB-C last year, the charging port is still located on the bottom of the mouse, which prevents it from being used while charging. This is only a minor inconvenience, as charging the mouse is a quick and infrequent process, but it sounds like Apple will finally relocate the port.

In December, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said Apple was working on a redesigned Magic Mouse with a relocated charging port.

More Ergonomic Design

In addition to having a relocated charging port, the next Magic Mouse will be more ergonomic and comfortable to use, according to Gurman.

While no specific design details about the next Magic Mouse were shared, perhaps Apple will take some inspiration from popular alternatives for the Mac, like Logitech's excellent MX Master 3S. That mouse features an ergonomic design with a thumb rest, a front-facing USB-C charging port, precision tracking, two scroll wheels, and more.

The overall look of the Magic Mouse has not changed much since 2009, so a redesign has been a long time coming. Notable changes over the years include the mouse switching from AA batteries to a built-in rechargeable battery in 2015, new color-matching options with the iMac in 2021, and the switch from Lightning to USB-C last year. Overall, the Magic Mouse has not received much attention from Apple over the past decade.

Release Timing and Pricing

The new Magic Mouse will be released in 2026 at the earliest, according to Gurman.

The current Magic Mouse is priced at $79 in the U.S. on a standalone basis, and it is included at no additional cost with the purchase of an iMac or a Mac Pro.

There is no word yet on how much the Magic Mouse 3 will cost.

Why even bother. Let the other makers make the more. I sending the Logitech Mx master enough 4 other people bought it on my recommendation. It’s so comfortable!!!!!

Another vote here for the MX Master 3. Had mine over 5 years now and going strong. Unquestionably a classic.

I ordered that a while back, but I couldn't get on with it at all. It actually gave me cramp in my hand it was so bulgy. I think the MX 3 is designed for people with large hands. I don't like Magic Mouse either though - it's too flat. I got so frustrated with mine and various Bluetooth issues I threw it against a wall in frustration!

I'd like something in between size-wise. I don't need a million buttons and a huge bulge, but neither do I want a flat buttonless design that needs you to swipe it like a trackpad. A simple two button design with a nice scroll action is all that's needed. But Apple won't do that unfortunately...

I’d be shocked if it does’t have wireless charging. I also think it will continue to have a low profile, which is more ergonomic. You don’t want your arm or wrist in the air. You want them on the desk. I used the previous Magic Mouse, which sat higher on the desk and caused shoulder pain. I had to switch between right and left hands. With the current Magic Mouse, I have not experienced any shoulder pain for eight years running using only my right hand.

The solution is easy — no adjectives or adverbs allowed. But they are allowed or maybe there’s no policy.

I used Logitech mice and the MX3 for a while and it taught me one thing. Ergonomics can be bad if overdesigned. You would not redesign a hammer or pencil as your hand wants to move freely. So the existing Magic Mouse remains my favourite mouse. Would not want to miss swipe gestures either and change it to rubbered scroll wheels.

Getting people to switch away from a Logitech mouse isn't that hard; all you have to do is wait about a year and a half for the switches to wear out and start double-or-not-clicking 🙄
My last Logitech mouse lasted over ten years and was only replaced because after dropping it on concrete office floors numerous times over that time period its chassis finally cracked. I have numerous Logitech and Microsoft mice around the house that are 20+ years old and still work perfectly well (though aren't used often, since they are attached to vintage computers). The only mice that I've actually had fail on me were wired Apple mice because, as has been tradition for Apple, the wires near the USB connection had broken.

For a company that pushed the industry forward when it came to adopting USB, Apple has a horrid track record when it comes to actually building USB cables.

I really wanted to like the Magic Mouse, and I don’t mind the port placement at all (just leave it charging overnight when you get the low battery warning), but my goodness it is uncomfortable. An absolute ergonomic nightmare.

2026!?! It really should not take a company with the money and resources at Apple this long to put out a new mouse.

I quite like my Magic Trackpad and hate the Magic Mouse. Having said that though, if I was using Photoshop or Illustrator all day I would want a decent mouse or Wacom tablet type thing.
It has been a minute, but I recall Wacom having a mouse that came with some of their drawing tablets that would only track on the tablet surface. Those tablets were great devices but that mouse was a whole other level of awful.

Cannot understand the hate for the MagicMouse. I have used basically EVERY Logi Mouse and sometimes still use the MX3, but I always get back to the MM. The Mix of mouse and trackpad, the incredible options with Better Touch, there is no other mouse that tries so hard to just not be there. Tastes differ – some folks like Trackpads, others love mice with plenty of buttons, I kinda dig the simplicity of the MagicMouse. Also,it is simply the best device to work in InDesign and PS and so on — the trackpad on top reduced scrolling vertical and horizontal to an absolute and precise minimum, which no other device offers with that ergonomic simplicity.
