People wanting the future to look like the past are going to have to realise the flaw in their thinking sooner than later.
Quite the opposite, a working environment that cannot handle the complexity that is the real world must be replaced with something better and more versatile.
For example, most engineer discipline would squarely reject the idea of using iPad entirely to do their design work.

I didn't upgrade mine… im very happy with its battery life and know a few poeple who say battery life has been taking quite a hit on older models at the moment. So im waiting and seeing what happens before i upgrade the OS.
I have a thousand dollar ultra….

Apple needs to get it **** together and hire better coders

All I’m expecting to see tomorrow night are M3 iMac, MacBook Pros and possibly some peripherals. I would be (pleasantly) surprised to see iPad 11 because I suspect they’ll hold off on that until the Spring to clear out more iPad 9 inventory. Spring is when I expect us to see release of the M3 MacBook Airs 13.6 and 15.

Later 2024 will see upgraded Mac Mini, Mac Studio and iPad Pro and Air.

I expect a lot of hyperbolic exclamations inducing euphoria and “can you believe they did that!” and “who saw that coming!” followed a day or two later by a reality check as reviews and independent benchmarks are published. I was ready to pull the trigger on the m2 max studio over the summer but got so ticked at the shameless price gauging on ram, upgrades and everything studio display (yes I want it to go up and down -$400) I said I’m done. I bought this and a 32” 4k 144htz ips w/kvm instead which will destroy any Mac in existence And costs a fraction of Mac performance. I’m assembling with my son on 11/1:View attachment 2304008

I don't have really have an issue with Apple's performance or computer pricing these days. It's better now than the Intel days. They have great resale value and we do have to realize the hardware pays for the software as well(there's a reason MacOS has been free for many years and Final Cut Pro has been $300 since 2011 which is a bargain). Apple uses their ecosystem to sell expensive hardware.

The bigger issue is the Mac Studio doesn't have the same flexibility for natively running applications as your new PC.

Side note; yes the 27" Studio Display is a ridiculous price but thats another story.

Hahaha 🔥you’re right on that as I’ll be looking at avg. power draw of ~750 watts (which is VERY conservative- it won’t be that high on avg.) The thing will be a nuke heater though and cause the lights in my neighborhood to flicker.:) That said, power costs at that wattage in my area (GA) are about $0.10/hr which is negligible.
Price is fine, what about carbon footprint.

And yet nothing else comes close to it.

I have one and am so glad I got it. It’s the monitor of my dreams. Well, except for no ProMotion. But I wouldn’t have wanted to pay even more that.

Nanotexture glass was already too much, but worth it.

I guess my point is that next gen MBAs will improve a bit as usual, but not because of the chip used. The low end could be improved using all M2 or M3 or a mix (except consumers would notice and whine) because the last gen chips already have more than enough power for the low end. Apple will select chip used for the low end based on chip yields, price points, demand, marketing, etc. Better M3 performance matters naught at the low end, unless performance+yields makes M3 cost effective.

Yields can not be excluded from analysis without making it all just guessing. But we mortals have no clue what goes on with complex chip yields; except that they usually improve dramatically over time - except when they do not...
I'll just simply refuse to buy an Air with a soc a generation behind. It's not just about pure power, but energy consumption, memory, supported instructions, support lifecycle, etc. And I won't buy a Macbook Pro, not because it has too much power, but because it's still has not got enough, and they weight way too much.

The 3nm chip not boasting huge battery life for the iPhone 15 makes me pessimistic we'll see a big jump in battery life for these M3 MBPs. I hope I'm wrong, but Apple seems to be favoring performance lately.

Battery life under test conditions (i.e., almost idle browsing the net or playing video) is fine.

What I'd be more interested in is better performance per watt to get better battery life when under a significant workload.

Either way, I'm not really due to upgrade until m4 or m5 :D

Anyone else think that Apple is hyping this up more than even an iPhone event? Seems like there is some unknown surprise “one more thing” to justify the advertising.

I'll still laugh real hard if its just a Mac Pro with the empty space on the existing Pro motherboard having the second CPU slot it was clearly intended to have, with dual M2 Ultras.

:D

Then again, it could be that - but with dual M3 ultras - I suspect it was clearly intended to have dual sockets from the outset, and maybe they had trouble getting dual socket M2 Ultras to work properly.

I'm sitting here reading through some of the comments and asked if there might be a "Just one more thing..." moment at the end.

I suddenly thought, maybe "Scary Fast" doesn't refer to new MacBooks.... but to an Apple Car.... Now that would be scary fast!!

(Yes, I'm not being serious...I laughed as I thought about it.... but that would make some heads explode!)
