What to expect? People who spent a ton on a MBP in January to be disappointed? I would be no matter the explanation. I’ll still watch even though I’m not in the market for any more Macs this year.
Don’t worry! Next year is just around the corner

M3 Pro/Max, when base M3 hasn't come out yet, seriously?

Most overdue is iMac, the tech spec is embarrassing (M1 !!!) there's no ProMotion/> 60 Hz refresh so its rubbish for media or gaming, never mind the GPU.

It will go to base M3 with the new GPU out of the A17 Pro (ray tracing, mesh shading) at 7/8 cores, and ProMotion on the display, plus possible price reduction!

I mean you are not going to increase 2023 shipments, or raise the gaming profile of the Mac, by shipping more MacBook Pro just before Xmas, seriously!

Which begs the question: will some/all Air models also get bumped to M3? Probably yes! New MacBook model? Maybe...

Geeez. I haven’t even finished paying my MBP Pro 14 yet.

Don't sweat it: in modern finance, debt can just be piled onto debt piled onto more debt. The only problem is when the leverage exceeds the ability to make that minimum monthly payment. Then it's economic disaster if true for many others at the same time too.

Actually for a different bit of logic (what maximizes overall Mac revenue during the most lucrative quarter of the year?), I still wouldn't be surprised if there's NO M3 at all in 2023... and that "scary fast" is an updated M2 Pro (and M2) iMac with some pretty graphics/charts comparing very selective (aka cherry-picked variables) speeds to M1 iMac and Intel iMacs before that.

A couple of new iPad rumors were hot and heavy a couple of weeks ago, so why not show up in this event too? Gut updates to those could make them "scary fast"er than their predecessors now a few years old.

If there's a "one more thing", maybe an iMac "bigger" with M2 PRO & MAX... which could also be "scary fast" vs. the old iMacs 27" that ran on Intel. If so, my guess is PRO branding at "scary" PRO pricing... like the previous iMac Pro (far above previous iMac 27" pricing). Will apparent pent-up demand for an iMac "bigger" pay a handsome premium for an iMac "bigger" Pro? TBD.

First Macs with Thunderbolt 5... which could easily fit "scary fast" without setting up the buying conflicts of a few Macs going M3 while most of the rest stick with "old" M2 for the holidays?

With Wifi 7 routers being offered at well over $1K now, does Apple jump back into that space with their own Wifi routers again... which could also fit "scary fast" messaging. The profit margin certainly looks like it is in that space again.

Then 3-5 months from now, Vpro can launch with M2 with nobody ripping it as "ancient" technology (as you just did with M1) and THEN M3 can roll as thoroughly predicted right up to even a week+ ago.

I'll hope for all this M3 stuff to rain on us next week but WOW! Where's the accumulating rumors been? Pictures of boxes? Pictures of parts? Evidence in macOS software updates? "No new Mac updates in 2023" was fully accepted even a week ago. Has Apple finally achieved "doubled down" security so well? Or are we imagining "Scary" and "Fast" in the wrong way? Trick or treat?

Gotta say, whether the iMac changes colors, adds an Apple on the front and really whether the Magic Mouse moves the new USB-C port off the bottom and or adds wireless charging to it are the big questions in my mind - with the Mouse making the most intrigue for me.

I don't think there's been any public statement from Apple as to event length?
Yes there is, on the calendar they use it shows the event slot is 2 hours long.

Click on ‘Add to your calendar’ and the time slot it books in for you is 2 hours long.

I'm going to be interested to see what the base RAM for the iMac will be. I have a feeling the M3 is going to go to 12GB and the M3 Pro will be 24GB. That may be a reason why we are getting MBP updates first instead of MB and MBA. If the base M3 is getting 12GB they may have thought that it would then to too close to the MBP M2 Pro of 16GB.

You always buy the best computer for the job at the moment given the specific finances (including "unlimited"). Then you use it to do the intended job and not having a second thought that there will be more powerful and capable machines down the line. Given that this is Apple we are talking about, the re-sell values will not plummet in a year and if you are not a slob, you should be able to sell it if you really want that new "super" computer. The only time when one might regret is when there is a massive transition akin from Intel to Apple Silicon. I was in that situation and it didn't stop me from buying the last Intel-based MBP despite M1 being around the corner since I was certain that there will be a lag in apps catching up with Apple. I still use it and am pretty happy because much of the scientific software of interest to me has just attained M1/2 compatibility. Happy Friday to all!

The computer internals of the chin on the M series iMac should be designed to be made upgradeable. The outward facing design to the user can still remain the same, but could easily be made thicker to cater for future M CPU's requiring more cooling. Without this the iMac is a waste. If Apple even slightly cared about the environment they would do this.

Aside from the iMac and refreshed 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, there are no other rumors that suggest other devices are getting updated.

Initial information indicated that the 13-inch MacBook Pro could see a refresh with an M3 chip, but Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has since confirmed the 13-inch MacBook Pro will be refreshed at a later date.

Other Macs, including the MacBook Air, Mac mini, Mac Pro, and Mac Studio won't be updated until 2024, and the same goes for the iPads and AirPods. We are not expecting new iPads or new versions of the AirPods until next year
Too early to alienate recent purchasers of 14-inch and 16-inch MBP's. But the 13" MBP which has a 720P FaceTime camera and just stereo speakers is ripe for a makeover, in spite of anything Mark Gurman says.

The M3 24" iMac update is the most likely, and a larger iMac model would give the appropriate "scare" to the marketplace if it did appear.

I still think something like a M3 iPad mini and iPad Air would shake up things, but that might annoy all the IPad Pro owners.

Some other accessories is a given.

I predict a cpu spec bump along with a price increase. I’m going to go out on the limb and say the Pro models also will get a new color.

The disappointment is the lack of innovation at Apple.
Look at all the other laptop manufacturers. They are releasing new form factors, new features, new visual looks & honestly have started to close the gap on quality/luxury that Apple offered.

That being said, I could never use WindowsOS and even though the Mac OS is boring - it is still simpler than clunky windows (although the rate Apple is going, they will catch up soon)
Windows 10 and 11 is far better experience out the box for general office productivity.

I mostly use a Mac but this negative view of windows is from the 90s! (Only Vista and maybe Windows 8 were disappointing)
