a gaming console would be a brand new product and for Mark gurman to not know about it even today is like Mark didnt know about apple watch or vision pro etc
I don't think a console is coming but it'd be very easy for Mark and other leakers to not know about it. It doesn't need to be an entirely new product. It can seem just like a new AppleTV in the pipeline.

By now I'm starting to be most interested in the M3, Pro, and Max performance improvements. With the huge leap forward for the Snapdragon X Elite, then 2024 looks like we'll see some real competition in the laptop ARM-space 🤩.

Edit: well that and a M3 mac Mini, but that's not in the cards ....

A discrete Apple dessigned cuda-type GPU with thousands of cores and compatibility as a plugin card or external GPU with M2/M3 macs would be interesting.
That's an instant order from me. I just need something like this, and I bet lots of Macintosh professional users are not that satisfied with the current products for the heavy lifting tasks. External GPUs compatible with all current apple silicon Macintosh computers would be a game changer. But I wouldn't get my hopes that high, those professional users are too small of a fraction of Apple's customers.

only in California can a 5pm event be called a "night time" event
It's the people on the US East coast who are calling this a "night" event.

I, in California, have called it a "commute time" event. 5PM is around peak traffic jam.

This is a very big 'what if'.. but what if this event is the reveal of the Apple Car, and the 'scary fast' is nothing at all to do with faster computers. This might also explain the odd timing, as if they did launch an Apple Car, i could see it be U.S only first before going to europe later on. I full accept this is a very outside bet.

Makes sense. Possible M3 is actually a car.

I had a dream and I now know. It’s an x86 iPhone that can plays games and it includes a pair of PCIe-x16 slots for eGPU. And you can buy an optional set of wheels and use it as a motorized skateboard

And I almost forgot, it has a USB-C port on the bottom

FIVE pm …. PACIFIC time ….

Cook really is that irritating kid you just want to punch in the face.

-

Hard to imagine that Apple would cater to the East coast nighttime/Halloween tie-in for an M# cpu launch.

But - this is an all-around strange situation - so who really knows. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hard to imagine that Apple would cater to the East coast nighttime

  • 47.6% of the continental US population lives in the Eastern Time Zone
  • 16.6% of the continental US population lives in the Pacific Time Zone
  • The highest amount of revenue Apple makes out of any time zone on the planet is Eastern Time Zone(Americas is the highest revenue region)
  • Apple likes money hence Apple would cater to the East coast nighttime

No 27" iMac M3 ? 😕
Hopefully they will replace iMac with new wireless display and nano M3 combo. The downsides of iMac are too much: No battery, so must stay plugged in to a big UPS. Can’t be used as monitor. CPU can’t be upgraded. Thermal throttling and fan. Wires plugged in to back look ugly and are hard to see (yeah, both).

If I were one of the countless people (still) waiting on a 27" iMac, I would be both excited and nervous for this event. If after this event, Apple still don't have a 27" (or larger) iMac in the lineup, I'd be curious to know what you guys plan on doing. Surely you'd have to start seriously considering other options like the Mini or Studio?
If no 27"+ iMac comes out I won't buy anything. Eventually maybe a Studio model when my current iMac is no longer fast enough. (Starting up from external 2TB Thunderbolt 3/4 SSD has helped it out a lot!)

For me, the 5K IPS monitor is critical - so the all in one package is just a good choice vs Studio+display. With a new/fast Mini it's possible that could be an upgrade route from a 3.7GHz/64GB as well but I really want to get my 2TB+ SSD startup drive INSIDE the Mac.... a big reason why I'm looking to upgrade. Cracking the existing iMac open and adding one is an option but not worth it IMO.

The 2 fan 24” M1 iMac never had thermal throttling, it was only the cheapest model that suffered that with one fan, 2 less ports, and a 8/7 SoC. Never understood why Apple even sold that. Otherwise I ran some games that put a constant elevated temp on the 24” and at worst it ran about 85 C. Ventura/Sonoma

I can’t wait for the day when Mac is the preferred choice in the enterprise. There is no innovation in the PC space.

Not many people have talked about this but I hope the base M3 will support more than one external screen natively, the one screen limitation is so ridiculous!
Unlikely… Apples commitment to long term OS support is atrocious.

Remember problems with their early cloud storage solutions, lost data? No end of support dates?

Very very few enterprise customers would be happy with the current support situation.

It is always infuriating when Apple cheaps out on their premium-priced products.

I am hoping they finally make the macbook pros fanless devices like the Macbook air!
The Air gets throttled when it runs too fast. Plus having to plug cables in to a laptop makes it hard to use as laptop. How about taking the hot CPU out of the laptop and putting it in a separate little box that connects wirelessly to the laptop. So the laptop itself doesnt need to do high performance stuff or connect to cables.
