The M1 Air was far better than the M2 though, correct? In the sense that the heatsink was bigger, and the SoC dissipates less heat.

That said, the Pros should always have a fan that can kick in. Them being Pros and meant to sustain workloads that push the SoC to the max. The ability to do offload tasks to the server side or not.

There have been rumblings that with M3 they could go with a base of 12GB RAM.

Candidly most people don’t need more for what they use a computer. But perception matters and the price point of Macs with only 8GB RAM and 256 storage makes for weird optics when you can buy cheaper devices with higher specs.

There can be a very blurry line between need and want such that want easily becomes need in someone’s mind.
In another place this week came an interesting development. The DJI Pocket 3 camera came out with a 1 inch sensor and within a device that betters far more expensive cameras from Sony, Canon, Fuji et al. What DJI did was to blow the specs commonly offered by the big companies out of the water. Apple could learn something from this. They made a great start with M1 and now they could do the decent thing and offer more RAM and storage as standard. This would immediately affect their competitors.

5 PM is perfect for me. Get home about 4:20. Make some coffee. And watch the event on my 80 inch TV.
whats the best way to watch it on a whopping great tv, I suppose you are using apple tv but does it have a feature to stream keynotes? Or stream from ipad, for example.

If I were one of the countless people (still) waiting on a 27" iMac, I would be both excited and nervous for this event. If after this event, Apple still don't have a 27" (or larger) iMac in the lineup, I'd be curious to know what you guys plan on doing. Surely you'd have to start seriously considering other options like the Mini or Studio?
Children get nervous that their dreams might not come true. My 2019 i9 iMac is working just fine and a 32" XDR iMac is in the works. If nothing of AIO interest drops tonight, no worries, my money will still be making money tomorrow. :)

Was really hoping for faceid in the mac in addition to Touch ID. Guess I’ll hold onto my original m1 MacBook Pro another year.

store is still up, thats a bit weird as by now it should be down (they usually do 4 hours before event)

Possibly means no new products will be released. Maybe this is a software event.
Maybe this event, live at 9AM in Tokyo, is to announce that Apple has acquired Sony and/or Nintendo, and will be releasing the industry's most powerful game console ever.

The Air gets throttled when it runs too fast. Plus having to plug cables in to a laptop makes it hard to use as laptop. How about taking the hot CPU out of the laptop and putting it in a separate little box that connects wirelessly to the laptop. So the laptop itself doesnt need to do high performance stuff or connect to cables.
That wireless connection is called a WiFi, and that separate little box is called the cloud.

Interesting they wrote October 30th.

Since this will be a large undertaking for our teams to roll out, we plan to launch regionally through a phased approach. Here are the launch dates we are currently targeting in local times:

● Japan – targeting October 17

● Europe – targeting October 23

● North America – targeting October 30

And if Apple expects to sell a 32" 6K iMac for $4999, they will be VERY disappointed. People who bought the Pro Display XDR or the iMac Pro were always a tiny minority.

The market for a larger and faster iMac might be willing to pay twice as much as for the 24" iMac, but not trice as much. 🖥️ 🖥️ 🖥️
I think that's really the core of the problem.

I would love a larger iMac, but with the prices they're charging for their displays, I don't think they could easily introduce a larger iMac at a price that would sit logically alongside the rest of their product range and still be priced in a way that would attract enough buyers.

If they did make one, I suspect it would have to be a high-spec version with a very high price tag. However, I suspect that's such a small market that it might not be a worthwhile option.

I hope I'm wrong though!
