First: 2008 2.4Ghz Black Macbook | 2GB | 250GB
Now: 2009 2.4Ghz Aluminum Macbook | 2GB | 250GB

My first Apple computer was an iMac G3. Then I got an iPod touch which is kinda like a netbook. My first Apple notebook is the Unibody MacBook

Glad that I'm not the ONLY old-timer around here. I owned a Powerbook 160, which was my trusty computer for graduate school. It died about 10 days before I defended my dissertation, so I quickly replaced it with an all-in-one Powermac, which was awful. After years of PCs, I got an iMac and a MacBook in 2007 and I've been happy since.

Wow my first was a Duo 230c, I must be old as well! Old at 24 :D

But my first mac that was portable was the original mac portable :) But I just can't classify it as a "laptop"

I've only owned two so far. My first one was a 12" PowerBook G4 1 GHz, which is now in the possession of my girl friend.

My second one was a 17" PowerBook G4 1.67 GHz, which is no longer working properly (it no longer runs on battery - and I've got two functioning batteries for it - and it switches off after a few minutes when running on AC power). It's a shame, because I really, really liked this machine, but I'll put it on eBay Germany tonight. Maybe some lucky guy will be able to fix it, I personally no longer care and currently have a load of other things to take care of and spend money on.

At the moment, I strongly doubt that I will buy a third Apple notebook anytime soon. I will get a new notebook (probably a Dell XPS) from my new employer which I can also use privately, so I don't have a need for another mobile machine. I still have my Mac Pro for everything else.

On a general note, I think that the PowerBooks were gorgeously looking machines, but I must say that they did not necessarily convince me quality-wise. They were not very robust for mobile computers, but were rather the type of beautiful thing that should not leave the desk because it's too fragile for real-world use. A friend of mine owns a first generation 15" MacBook Pro, and it leaves the same impression on me as the PowerBooks. My old Gericom X5 Force was "a real pig" in comparison: That baby was meant to be carried around and used under heavy conditions. And even my Toshiba Satellite before that felt more outdoor-friendly than the PowerBooks.

Also, the current Apple notebooks are plain and simple way too expensive. I'm always willing to pay a premium for a nice design, but a high-end Dell Precision notebook is a much better value and comes with better service than a 17" MacBook Pro and, frankly speaking, the XPS series already offers more than one usually needs at less than half the price of a MacBook Pro, but with an equivalent performance.

Late 2006 Black MacBook. It was also my first Mac and I used it as my main machine for almost 2 years. I now have it, a 24" iMac, and an Aluminum MacBook.

iBook G3 USB 500mhz. Paid $70, it worked but screen would not backlight. Wound up replacing the actual bulb inside the lcd screen , but to my surprise, i fixed it:cool:

A 2004 1GHz iBook G4 with a 20GB harddrive and 512mb RAM. Its still running and I am writing on it now... will be replaced with an MBA in the near future. I hope that will last as long :)

i got this in late 2003. 12" PB 1Ghz, 60gb hdd, 1.25 gb ram, combo drive

first apple laptop is my white macbook I currently use. first laptop ever was a dell inspiron 6000 headache, eek.

EXACTLY the same for me! Ugggh, those Inspirons certainly were headaches. Getting a white Macbook after that was a very welcome change!

I also have an old clamshell iBook, circa 2002 or 2003, just as a backup computer. It runs better than the Inspiron, which was bought in 2005. LOL.

Powerbook 140 -- so cool I didn't know what to do with it -- I played Sim City at least a thousand hours the first month. I think this was the best laptop I owned until I picked up a G3 Ibook the first month they came out

Also have a 5300 -- stupid cool -- expensive and the quickest outdating of all my laptops; a 540C -- still with battery life; a wallstreet and a black Macbook.

Now have a MPB, until the next one.

hahaha thats what I did on my mac note book too: Played simcity on it. I still remember spending tons of time typing F-U-N-D to get money in that game so I could expand my city.

Powerbook 140. Purchased in mid-1992, so I can't claim to be the earliest adopter since it came out in 1991. But pretty close. With the exception of a recently acquired Dell Mini 9, I've only had desktops since.

My first Mac laptop was an early 2008 white macbook which i got in a sale in Nov 08 for £600 and i still use it.

Was that from comet? I got mine in Nov '08 also, from Comet, for £600! It is a beautiful machine, I maxed out the ram to 4GB. It was an excellent deal.

The unibody Macbook I bought last week is my first Apple laptop. Love it, but then after being an iMac owner for 14 months I knew I would :p
