I went with the 500 MHz PowerBook G3 Pismo from middle school up until my senior year of high school. I loved that machine. Expansion bay (Zip, SuperDisk, dual battery options, etc.), FireWire, good looks...man, it was tough letting that one go.

I've had a PowerBook G4 (aluminum) and now the most recent MacBook Pro, and while I certainly enjoy using the more updated laptops, I don't think anything will top the Pismo.

My first was the 500 MHz PowerBook G3 Pismo. That was a beautiful machine until the display started making those discolored lines.

The next in line was an iBook G4 800 MHz, that lasted for 4 years, now the girlfriend has it.

Now I have a MackBook Pro 2.6 GHz that I bought in the late Spring of 2008.

My parents bought me a special edition Graphite clamshell iBook in the 10th grade. This one isn't mine:

Powerbook G4 1GHz - it still runs 24-7. What a lovely machine. When it was time to shop for a new, day to day laptop last year, the high $$$ of the Macs scared me off and I bought an HP Pavillion. Used it for 3 weeks. Hated it!!! Just bought this MacBook Air 1.6Ghz HDD (i got in on the $999 refurb) and I'm in love all over again. I like spending time enjoying computing, not fighting with the computer :)

Does an Apple IIe carried under the arm count as a laptop?

that was my first desktop too and she was a beauty. carmen sandiego was a great mistress.

aluminum g4 12inch powerbook(best machine they ever made) first build circa 2001

Mine was a 12" Powerbook G4... I loved that thing.

Its still around today (in my fiance's care), but its in horrible need of a new battery!
Over 250 cycles and I'm barely getting an hour out of a full charge these days!

Powerbook Duo 210

Glad that I'm not the ONLY old-timer around here. I owned a Powerbook 160, which was my trusty computer for graduate school. It died about 10 days before I defended my dissertation, so I quickly replaced it with an all-in-one Powermac, which was awful. After years of PCs, I got an iMac and a MacBook in 2007 and I've been happy since.

a black macbook, 2.4Ghz 250GB free space 2GB RAM. it's also the computer I use now. my next actual computer will be an imac. running Leopard.

Bought it today!

The whole best notebook ever thread got me curious... what was your first Mac Laptop?

PowerBook 145 for me... anyone else?

Well, I just bought mt first Mac today in school. I bought my Spanish teacher's white iBook G3 (not clamshell) for only $40!

It has a few problems, though, the battery does not hold a charge anymore, and the shift key is broken (not the one I use anyway) It is running 10.2 Jaguar, and has no AirPort card. See my signature for specs.

For only $40, I thought it was a nice start to my hopefully soon Apple collection!:D:apple:

I was late to the whole portable craze and my first laptop was a 14" iBook G4. The funny thing is that now I have more laptops than desktops.

PowerBook 170 in 1991.

I almost went with the PowerBook 100, but decided that I wanted the more powerful and better display of the 170. Purchased with the 80MB HD upgrade. Upgraded to a 120MB and later to a 213MB HD. Each HD upgrade cost an arm and a leg back then.

800mhz G4 iBook

Originally with 256MB RAM and 30GB HDD. Upgraded the RAM to the max of 640MB and then the HDD to 80GB when the 30 died after 4 years.

Powerbook Duo 280c. It still has several features that are desirable for modern laptop computers. The design, durability and portability are excellent!

No, you're definitely not the only old-timer. :) My first Apple laptop was a PowerBook 170, which cost over $4,000 in 1992. I used it until I got a 5300 about five years later. That one still works, although the battery died long ago.
