I had a G3 PowerBook for a while with one of my old employers, but that was more of a plaything than my work laptop - for that I had a wintel laptop. This was an extra machine I picked up when we were shutting down a company office in Chicago and I was tasked with deciding where the equipment went - the PB went to my office :)

The first I personally owned was a 15" G4 PowerBook.

Powerbook 100. Got it when they were blowing them out. I used it for several years at work, editing C and browsing listings. Tough little machine. Need to find one again, for my collection!

1.33Ghz 12" iBook with 1.5GB of RAM and a 60GB HDD. Had her for a little over 3 years and recently sold her and upgraded to the WhiteBook 9400M.

have been using PCs since '93, and switched to Mac in '99... i do web dev, vector design, post production photography and have recently started application development but have NEVER had a laptop... ever...

but i've decided to finally jump on board and buy the MacBook when it is next updated, hopefully very soon, as a secondary computer and first laptop :)... very exciting change...

My first Mac Ever

Mine was in 1996:
Powerbook 150: trackball, sturdy palmrests, indestructible housing, monitor with 4 shades of grey, floppy drive. $1199.00 CAD + Tax

Bought it at the university bookstore just as Mac OS 7.5 was being released - was included as a drop-in floppy as I recall.
It was a good machine for word processing, but friends made fun of me because the screen wasn't color.

Chides of 'How many shades of grey did you say?!?' were painful.

We had a 2400c in the lab, first laptop I ever wanted but could not afford to spend $3600 as a grad student in 1997. So I got a Performa tower instead, two years later, I could afford a Powerbook G3 Lombard for $2289 at Cyberian Outpost. Used it as my primary computer for about 4 years, then used it on and off. Finally sold it last November for £80. Everything was still working but I hardly turned it on anymore in a 5 Mac, 1 person household. Now I'm down to 3 Macs (2 of which are laptops) that I use everyday.

2008 MacBook 4,1 in Black, 2.4GHz C2D, 4GB RAM, 250GB HDD, Leopard.

Well, this is the first one that has actually belonged to me, Dad has a 12" PowerBook G4 that he uses more than he uses the television :D

Before that I have always owned a desktop Macintosh;
Macintosh Classic II upgraded with 80MB Hard Drive and 10MB RAM (still alive)
PowerMac 6200, upgraded to 64MB RAM (still alive)
iMac G3 333MHz with 6GB Hard Drive (died)
Intel Mac Mini 1.66GHz upgraded to 1GB RAM (still alive)

A PowerBook 3400.

1st Apple "Laptop"

It was the mac portable but I bought it in 1993. I have two of them now - not really sure that counts as a 'laptop' at all

I do also have a atari STacy

with the Spectre GCR so it can run really early Mac OS but I doubt that would count either but it was a cheaper alternative to the Mac Portable at the time
