Spending $3499 for a device with a 2022 M2 chip in 2024 that has a cable that goes to a big battery in my pocket that only lasts two hours and further isolates me from those around me unless I buy one for everyone in my family to watch movies on and have to buy separate glasses inserts for everyone in my family? Hahahaha no I’m not an idiot. This is gonna flop so hard until they can work on price, battery life, size, and utility.

They really need to lean more into entertainment with this thing. Focus on getting the best games and otherworldly experiences. Think thrill and wonder…that’s what this thing will excel at.

It’s fascinating to me how all the other tech Apple has been developing over the years (like the audio tech in AirPods and the graphics processing capabilities of their own silicon) have been combined into the Vision Pro. Without that previous tech development, the Vision Pro wouldn’t have been possible. It’s like if Apple had to wait for all the fruit to be ripe before the pie could be baked.
It does violence to those critics over the last 7-10 years that's said Apple no longer innovates.

They've been playing a long game refining these technologies until they had this combined with the powerful, yet energy-efficient chips to run them on.

Will v1 be successful? Don't know yet, but it feels like it could.

Absolutely going to save, get one of these. Even if I have to not buy any other apple hardware for the rest of the year. An expensive computer, yes, but it’s like getting the first iPhone.
I’m thinking about it this way too. I have room on my Apple Card so I’m salivating at this. At the same time it’s ridiculously pricey. I would consult my wife but I already know her answer 🙃

The content on this will be all over the place. From ports of wii looking games to multi million dollar experiences like a movie that plays around you. But will it be possible to be in a room full of other people wearing the headset and interact with them? If so, how many? Being isolated will kill this things adoption with women and teens. But this will seriously need many accessories too in order to bring popular franchises over. If a realistic shooter game using real weapons isn't on this thing, its going to miss hitting that 15-35 year old segment of consumers who spend good money on gaming consoles. And forget it if you can't hook up a game console to this thing. Whats the point of having a device that replaces a big tv if that tv can't play any non apple sanctioned content?

Higher than the Studio Display and the pro xdr

Here are the big questions nobody's answering:
- ports for I/O? (Looks like none, or maybe one thunderbolt?)

This was my most unanswered question. If the only cable is power only does that mean the only way to do software updates, backups, move large amounts of data on/off the device is wifi?

I do over-the-air software updates and backups for my iPad but I only use my iPad for content viewing. If I was going to spend an afternoon taking 3D photos and video or wanted to load a bunch of source data to display/process I might want to be able to attach an external flash drive to be able to collect more data. I can download a couple movies onto my iPad for a trip but I could see wanting more bandwidth available if I had more serious use cases.

An additional I/O port would, if Apple allowed, allow wired peripherals to be attached providing additional options for input and expansion.

Seems like that's going to be up to the developers.

If Apple provides them with the proper access tools and libraries, really incredible, immersive experiences can be made...and this is the pre-release!

People forget apple already produces tons of shows/movies for apple tv+

they'll definitely invest millions into producing VR movie/tv content for this

didn't they say you can make games with Unity for the headset ? If so should see tons of indie developers jump on this with kickstarters etc

Hopefully, the Apple Vision Pro Micro OLED Screen is strong and durable.

Don't want to end up looking like this.
Side topic. You find the best memes fast.

But this is probably a real fear. My Apple Watch 8 has a big scratch (I thought it was supposed to be tough), and it’d cost AU$500+ for a repair! I guess the bonus for the headset is that other than having fake eyes, I don’t think you need the screen. Or am I wrong?

The lack of microLED kills this for me. Along with the price, of course, but if I was going to pay $3.5K, I certainly would not want OLED. In fact I was assuming the price was largely because of microLED screens.

The technological moat that Apple has been building up over the years is quite considerable. It’s kinda depressing that all that tech will remain confined to Apples golden-cage ecosystem.
Not at all — they aren’t keeping it to themselves, so we all benefit. And their focus on quality over a race to the bottom benefits us as well.

The Quest 2 has much lower resolution. Resolution and refresh rate directly influence the required graphics power (and thus also battery usage). Apple can't just gratuitously crank it up.

The 90 Hz also make sense in relation to the mentioned below-12-ms pass-through lag, which is just one 90 Hz frame.
The 90Hz frame rate makes sense. I was hoping for 120Hz, but given the resolution it was wishful thinking. One game in particular will make me nauseous at 90Hz. Maybe it's incorrect IPD settings. I hope Apple pours serious money into either preventing or alleviating motion sickness.

That guy is just making troll videos.

One of the people who used it and was shown the court side NBA experience said it was so good he would pay the NBA thousands of dollars a year to see games this way, and he has been court side at an NBA game.

This guy.

He also has some comments on R1 on how it makes real time operating system possible and what that means. He does agree with the TikTok troll about the man watching the videos which just sounds like none of them have kids and have ever rewatched a video of their child…a very common thing to do.

Luckily as long as scratches are not in front of the sensors it will not matter…but if they are…yikes.

So strangely these weren't as far off as first thought.

Could easily have been an accurate prototype used for testing.
