I very much like Safari, but I may have to download Firefox to see what all the fuss is about. I wouldn't mind having some more speed.

i just cant get past the UI of FF, i like Camino, but i wish it was a bit more polished, so i guess i'm sticking with Safari until Camino matures a bit more

i pretty much only use safari. i love the look of omniweb - but its just too slow.

I use firefox 1.0 themed to look like safari.

whered u get a safari theme for ff?

Safari almost exclusively. OmniWeb 4.5 for certain specific tasks. Internet Exploder almost exclusively for rare sites that don't work in Safari. I have Fire Fox to mess around with general things.

If Safari did not exist, I would use Fire Fox.

I use the G4 optimized build of Firefox.

same here. i dont know if it's really any faster, and i use candy bar to get another icon so i dont have the cool fox-around-apple one, but i just like to know it's g4 optimized lol
Thanks!
I guess its no suprice that I run my latest G4 optimized Firefox build (1.0+). :p

Firefox (G4 optimised, with the Fox-around-the-Apple icon), and I love it.

I had to use Safari for a short while (simplicity's sake) after I lost my ~/Library, and it was unbearable. Render speed is slow, I couldn't work out how to turn on tabbed browsing ( ), the toolbar icons annoyed me, pretty much the only advantage I found it had was the eyecandy. Mercifully I've got my settings back.

Your builds make a huge amount of difference, you have all our gratitude!

Ever considered building Thunderbird? ;)

Safari here. I tried FireFox but I found it too flakey in the cursor movement, and just didn't seem as stable as Safari. Internet Explorer is used sometimes if I need to web archive a site for browsing offline when Im away from my DSL connection.

Safari 97% of the time. Firefox the rest. I used to use the G4 opt FF build but had problems with it so I reverted back to the standard FF.

Even though I don't use Firefox, I very much appreciate the efforts of people like you who help those that DO use Firefox. On my Windows PC, I use Firefox all the time, except for those times when I'm forced to use IE like for Windows Update  (at least, that's what happens on those rare occasions my PC is actually connected to the Internet).

Still use Firefox exclusivly. Switched because:
The main reason was the extention Adblock, which allows me to filter out those annoying flash-based ads without killing all support for plugins, as I had to do in Safari.

Other advantages with Firefox:
- can allow some sites to open pop-ups (the wireless netwoork at school has a portal solution where I have to have a pop-up window open to have access).
- my internet bank works again (the b*stards recently "upgraded" their bank, and I can no longer use Safari)...
- I can add separators in the bookmarks, which is very handy when you have a lot of bookmarks, and try not to have too many folders in the bookmarks bar...
- Firefox displays the contents of the alt-tag when an image is missing, while Safari only has a stupid questionmark...
- the Searchbar at the bottom of the screen is fantastic, and makes Safari's (and all other browsers) Find-window seem like dark age technology.
- Firefox has RSS-support, which Safari still misses...
- Send Link... is missing in Safari
Hasn't changed since November... ;)

Definately Safari on the Mac and IE on the PC. I take advantage of the browser being integrated into the system properly which is probably why I really don't like Mozilla-based junk. Thankfully, I mainly use OSX.

You, fellow member, are the perfect candidate for trying Shiira, IMO. Like you, I used Safari on the Mac because of how well it integrates with other useful operating system services. Shiira is designed so that it integrates with Safari - this means that the vast majority of changes that help Safari will help Shiira too! For example, if Safari were to get a major upgrade to its bookmarks system (which it really doesn't need IMO), Shiira wouldn't be affected because all it does to access Safari's bookmarks is read the .plist file, a format which Apple not only documents well but provides an interface to programmers for reading. This means that any program can read the .plist files of any other - whether program 2 can make sense of the settings for program 1 is another matter, and one that Shiira handles beautifully. Not only does Shiira integrate with Safari; it uses the same web rendering engine too (WebKit).

Thanks wrldwzrd89, I'll give it a try. I'm pretty happy with Safari though so really dunno if I'll change - no promises. As long as it doesn't make double ups of all my system files like Firefox did when I was fooled into trying it.

It always confuses me how many people have crazy problems with Firefox. I've been using it for ages, put it on 5 other people's PCs as a spyware deterrent, and the only problems I've ever had have been human error.

My own human error, if you must know, through deleting library files. Still coming to terms of the magnitude of my stupidity with that one ;)

Fair enough, it was an early build of FF so maybe that's unfair of me to complain. However, I still won't use it (or even install it) because of its interface, its lack of integration with the OS, and the feeling that it seems always unfinished IMO.

FF fans, read carefully before flaming:
For the websites I mainly visit, Safari and IE are faster in their respective natural environments (OSX/XP).

I use Safari, exclusivley.

It is finally to the point where I have little, if any problems with any pages; even those loaded with a buttload of messy JAVA scripts.

Safari. I run firefox on occasion, but one time i did a comparative test b/w the two on the sites i visit frequently (like macrumors) and there was very little difference. The only time i noticed a difference was when i connected my PB wired, then both loaded slightly faster than when on wireless :-/ maybe some sites are more noticable than others. but i like the look/feel of safari so i dont see a good reason to use firefox (unnless of course it is ever noticably faster on a web site i frequent)

It is firefox all the way for me.

The thing that make firefox so nice is not just what comes out with it out of the box (which in it self is nice) but the extentions that can be added and downloaded to make it even better.

Also if you have broadband go in to about:config on firefox and turn on network pipelining and it becomes a lot faster

I have to admit the Mozilla team did a great job on Firefox - the combination of extreme configurability, a secure extension system, and an open-source browser is almost unstoppable if done right. I'd use Firefox on a regular basis on my Mac if the Mozilla team can get the user interface issues worked out (Firefox for Mac, with the default theme, doesn't "feel" like a true Mac application).

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't flaming. I don't doubt that people do have issues, I was simply commenting that it's rather uncharacteristically not happening to me!
