Safari 99.99998% of the time, but I have to use IE for my online billpay.

Given the calculation, if you spend 43,200 minutes a month in Safari (which pretty much means 24/7) then you only spent 86 milliseconds a month in IE paying your bills. Is this correct?

Found Shiira last night and all i can say is wow,
Its exactly what ive always wanted form safari.

Yep, spent the past day pretty solidly on it too and I'm pretty impressed but it doesn't really add anything over Safari for me. I'm not a huge power user so Apple's apps seem to satisfy my needs pretty well.

Thanks for the recommendations everyone though, I'm always happy to try something else. Shiira is the best of the Safari alternatives in my opinion.

I just noticed this, but Is there a spelling check on shiira? It is OS level, so you think they could just add it in there.

enlighten me please.

Sadly, Shiira doesn't make use of the system-level spelling services...yet. This feature might appear in a later version of Shiira though.

Safari 99% of the time. But after reading all this about Shiira I'll give it a whirl. Never use IE and occasionally use Firefox. I never have any problems with Safari - it even works with my online bank.

Has to be Firefox on PC, and Safari on Mac - though it does annoy me that when I've got about 50 webpages open in Safari and its been running for a week that it slows down - I'm sure there is a memory leak in there somewhere - but then saying that Windows wouldn't be able to stay stable enough for that on my PC, so can't complain...

I'm pretty sure you can also right-click and "Get Info" on the optimized build, select the icon so that it's highlighted, and hit Cmd-C to copy it to the clipboard. You can then repeat the process for the version of Firefox (or any file/program, really...) currently installed and paste it (Cmd-v) over the old icon.

Flawless. Thanks a lot!
Brize, thx for the link :)

Only 2 things I don't like about Shiira are the drawers for the bookmarks, and the default fish icons for the navigation. Otherwise, it seems pretty fast, but I think I'm going to stick with Safari.

Over at Macologist we had a poll on this very issue (here), and there too, the interesting suggestion was that of Shiira, as well as the fact that Tiger's Safari will have rss browsing.

That said, I adore Firefox on my XP, where it's very polished, but I find Firefox incredibly buggy in OS X-- Menus stay up, web text remains oddly boldfaced if it's temporarily highlighted, it crashes often enough, all the file associations are work to keep up, and the downloads menu is the worst of all: If you close all your windows except the downloads browser, then the menu doesn't work... and I mean nothing (yup, the File, Edit, and all that)... and if you attempt to close the downloads menu window, it will cancel your download. Arg. None of this happens on the XP version... I really want to like Firefox, and still use it in OSX because it's fast (and the G5 and G4 optimized versions are even faster!).

Besides the most important factor of all: Safari has a really boring icon. Camino & Firefox have a great icon that I am just drawn to clicking in my Dock.

Internet Explorer - 1% for ordering cinema tickets at Odeon.co.uk

Grrrr. That drives me mad as well. I can't believe Odeon haven't sorted that yet, especially given the amount of negative publcity their site has attracted.

It's bad enough to disregard standards, but worse still to force Windows users into using a browser that represents a significant security risk.

Are you able to run Safari in debug mode with Odeon?

Nope the problem isn't the site not allowing us in due to using Safari but because it is the least standards compliant website on the net, it doesn't even work in Firefox. I still can't believe that they havn't redesigned it considering they aare the biggest cinema company in the UK and online booking is becoming ever more popular.

I want to use Camino because of its low sys req.s, but I can't download it, if I do, the DMG is corrupt. I downloaded it 4 times, then tried the multi-language one and the beta version (9.0) one. None of them worked! :(

I've had pretty similar experiences with both Firefox (XP and OSX) and Camino using a variety of machines. It's really weird. Eventually they come down but they take a few attempts sometimes.

I am using FF a lot now. The rendering speeds are just so much better than Safari. The skin disturbed me but a link earlier on in this thread referred to a Safari style theme which I have downloaded and it's pretty cool.

One irritating bug I've found is when you click the drop down icon on the back button a drop-down list appears of previous webpages, which remains in place even after selecting one of the pages. I have to ctrl-click in the window to remove it.

Also, unless I'm doing something wrong, if I want to open the url I've just entered in a new tab I need to press alt-click, but if I want to open one of the stored bookmarks in a new tab I need to press CMD-click. Having to remember two different modes is a bit annoying.

Overall I like it because its faster, and that's sufficient for me to make it my preferred choice of browser at the moment.

PS: I tried out Shiira but did find the default fish icons annoying. I personally liked the Bookmark drawer though, nice.

The great thing about Shiira is that, like Firefox, the icons can be changed to something that suits your tastes better. I should do some searching for Shiira themes...
