Not my fault you're a fan boy if I praised Jobs you wouldn't have had any issues with what I'm saying. The guy was a horrible person.
For one that had personal experience here, I'll give you my perspective of the man.

Steve Jobs was a man who saw past so much rhetoric of the western world, his "terrible" personality is from seeing the detrimental fault in people, groups and products. He hated being hero worshiped and wanted anyone around him to be as brash, outlaw and unforgiving as himself.

If you can accept brutal honestly where you take no offense in your flaws pointed out, you got along great with the man. If you can't look at yourself via an x-ray mirror showing every flaw, wart and shortcoming, you hated him with a killing the messenger reaction.

Concerning his inner circle, he could not stand anyone that stayed in their comfort zone. You had to be constantly building upon yourself daily in your professional, personal and spiritual life.

He was not an "open minded" person as his philosophies and rhetoric made him a multi-millionaire. From that, he never took any advice from someone less successful than himself. That is a trait I've taken to heart.

You should have the decency to accept that. But of course you don't. Other wise you wouldn't have posted it. Enjoy being you.
I do enjoy being myself. Being around Steve, as brief as it was, had a great effect on me that I'm thankful for to this day.

First, I would expect the real push in cars (CarPlay) even in more cars than now. More aftermarket units supporting it.
Carplay is the kick in the teeth automotive electronics have needed for decades. Most of automotive electronics going back to the old GM Delco days has had way too much "Not invented here" of a mindset where being compatible outside for their product was a threat.

Second, the homecoming of HomeKit ( :)). If there are any bottlenecks to its widespread? Can it fully replace the expensive Google thermostat? Make it truly industrial strength protected. Make it manageable through AppleTV.
Homekit has a while to go. Yes, I can easily see Apple TV becoming the next "digital hub" of a home but it has a way to go.

Third, improvement of AppleMusic and iCloud. iCloud syncs now very well and fast, my impression, almost like Dropbox.
I keep on thinking how much of a loss leader iCloud is to Apple. Their margins are mostly hardware and not services.

Fourth, further IBM collaboration to see more Macs in the business.
The last two decades for IBM has been a sobering experience where they exiled themselves from many markets and industries. They have a great transition from their Big Iron transitioning into the server and now cloud market where they now play well with others.

Fifth, further move into education. Maybe, revival of plastic iBooks? I mean, iBooks were retired in 2009 to make place for more expensive MBAs. But now Macs are not a main business. So, lowering a bit margins in notebooks for market share in OS X is permissible. Bring in black slim iBook, i3, 4GB of RAM, 12 inch (non-retina) for 899 dollars.
I don't see this happening as they have always gone for quality instead of quantity. The term "Apple bitch" is a common campus phrase where what mobile device you have has defined your social status in a college these days. The lunatic fringe on campus is lovable Linux becoming the modern pocket protector and slide rule.

Sixth, desktop Macs. The video Pro Mac is fine, but desktop it ain't. Bring in El Capitan modern case, i7, 16GB of RAM, GTX950. 999 dollars. Will sell like hot cakes.
Again, Apple is not interested in high volume.

Seventh. Apple-sim (or non-sim) AppleWatch2 with 3G capability and sensors discussed above.
I see more sensors on the next Apple Watch but I do not see it replacing any iPhone.

Eight. Bring in rugged AppleWatch2 with solar battery, barometer, altimeter, thermometer, 3G, large size and battery - a travel watch, a rival to Casio ProTrek and G-shock.
IMO, the rugged mindset is a great thrid party opportunity. The the watchband market for the Apple Watch is growing well. I'd like to see a digital bus come out of the Apple Watch with an MFi program connected to it for "smartbands" with features you mentioned.

Nine.Further improve AirDrop.
How do you want it improved? It is a razor balance between connectivity and local space spamming.
Ten.Make Foxconn produce iPhones in Brazil, Argentine and India.
I doubt that will ever happen due to security issues. All the countries you mentioned have more industrial espionage incidents than their current manufacturing facility.
Eleven. Further improve security and corporate networking, make FaceTime a true rival to Skype.
I don't see that happening as FaceTime is more of a loss lead service to sell high margin hardware.
Twelve.Make Apple's Connect more visible.
In what way?
Thirteen. Make Apple Pencil work with Macbooks (certainly with trackpads).
Don't see this happening as the touch screen on Windows 8 to 10 has not been that popular. Also, extending arms extended to touch a vertical screen creates a lot of fatigue in a users arm beyond kiosk style user experiences.
Fourteen. Make more innovative products and don't be afraid to dare. Remember, while you are the most expensive company in the world, you have a soul of underdog :)
Honestly, I don't see that has changed at all in recent years.

I would love to see a mac mini pro with the same specifications as a maxed out 5k Imac Retina. That way I can have the power of an Imac with a (separate) dedicated screen. Not going to happen but one can dream!

If so, what monitor or screen will you get?

Here's hoping that the MacBook Pro 15" gets a REAL update. More memory, faster processor, discrete GPU available, and ability to configure it with greater internal SSD capacity. I need 4TB internal; yes, even in a laptop.

I really want to remove all the red ink from my signature, but I won't do it until Apple comes through for the true enthusiast.

I'm most interested in Apple Watch 2, MB and iPhone. My iPad Pro and ATV4 should hold me over until 2017. BTW, the iPad Pro is so good that my next MB might be my last Mac (and I've been a Mac user since 1991).

Quite true actually.
Build all sizes iPhones and no-one can claim the iPhone is too big or too small. Though it does mean you don't follow your own principles but simply "cover all areas".

It happens a lot when companies are doing very well, and try to stay on top: "cover all areas".
Look at BMW: the amount of different cars you can now buy from BMW is huge. Next to the classic fast saloons, you can buy small hatchbacks, huge SUVs.. even front-wheel driven MPV's...

But when once it goes downhill, and it will happen some day, the company goes back to basics.

I don't see offering 3 display sizes as giving up principles for the sake of covering all areas. After all, people have different size hands, portability needs (slim jeans to large purses) as well as various use cases. Remember, Apple offered 4 very different types of iPods for a market that in its heyday was a tiny fraction of the size of smartphones and I don't remember anyone complaining about that.

It's not as if Apple is offering dozens of models, from $50 cheap phones that barely passes as a smartphone to $900 phablets like some of its competitors. Now, *that's* what you call giving up principles for the sake of coverage.

Been asking for this for years. Here's hoping but not holding breath

I want a Mac Mini with 2TB of PCI-E storage, i7 CPU and up to 32Gb of Ram
The Mac Pro is too darned expensive. Something between the mini and the Pro would be ideal.
My current goto server is an 8 core i7 + 64Gb Ram + 3Tb of SSD. Come on Apple make me something that can allow me to say goodbye to Windows.

This is something a lot of us have been wanting for a long time. The headless mac. Something between the mac pro and mac-mini.

Personally I'd be happy with just a high end i7, a proper desktop nvidia maxwell (or this year pascal) gpu, the ability to upgrade drives and memory, and competative pricing overall. Would be an instant sale for me - and perfect for so many that need something more than a mini, but for which a pro is overkill (especially price wise).

Well if Apple release a 4k or 5k screen only I would probably buy it depending on price... otherwise a 4k TV screen I guess.

OS X needs a big shake up in terms of both design and functionality. It does appear dated next to Win 10.
But Ive just re-drew all icons with his crayons! How dare you!

And fixes for all of the USB issues, Thunderbolt issues, Display issues etc. The extremely expensive Mac Pros we had purchased here are used less and less because of trivial issues like the USB attached speakers cutting off all of the time in El Cap.
That's what I would like to see. Fixes. Which we were promised with Cappy. Maybe next time. What's an even smaller part of El Capitan in California?

And less grey on white, terrible blurry font smoothing, and teeny tiny windows resize buttons. There is an almost endless list of things to be fixed with OS X it seems.
YES. But, again, that's Ive's stuff. I remember reading an article on user interface functionality, which put emphasis on the fact that designers tend to put tiny text on huge amounts of white space, because they have perfect eyesight, and it should be avoided at all costs because it causes problems to users. I think that was about eight years ago. Maybe I need to find the link and send it to Tim Cook.

OS X as it is today is not really any different to 7 or 8 years ago, just with more stuff bolted on or thrown in and not really disguising that's it's a badly implemented afterthought. I'd like to see something more modern. I'd like to see a file explorer/file management UI that doesn't look like something from the 90's. The dock is effectively useless so I'd like to see Apple steal some of Microsoft's taskbar ideas (drop down lists, pinning items etc) and make the damn thing useful and not just a place to launch stuff.

I'd also like to see Apple implement Siri the same way Microsoft have cleverly integrated Cortana into the OS. Perhaps do the same with iCloud and tie all my synced data & settings together the same way Microsoft have done with Windows since Windows 8.

Microsoft have made huge advancements with the desktop & UI over the last 3 years - all for the better, particularly with Windows 10. I'd like to see Apple make OS X (or whatever they call the next generation Mac OS) look and feel like it's from 2016. What's the point having cutting edge hardware if you are just going to load a creaking OS on it? With the hardware, how about baking Touch ID in to all hardware products while we're at it? Passwords are a stupid way to secure a system.
One more thing... Let me introduce a perfect operating system for you: Windows 10! You can install it on any Apple computer too! Hey presto – a modern operating system that doesn't feel stale and has revolutionary features like spying, contextual adverts and active tiles or whatever that thing is called. Available today from Microsoft store!

Apple doesn't care. They haven't made products that satisfy its customer's desires & needs in a long time. Apple's ethos is to demand customers conform to what it produces.

It's why Apple "simplified" FCP, it's tablets don't have SD card slots, almost all Macs are "sealed systems" now, headless Macs down to two, one very low end, the other "pro," most laptops down to a handful of ports or just one- dongle city.

I'm a long time Mac user and Apple has gone in the reverse direction I'd prefer but I'm not going anywhere still. Apple knows this plus Mac sales are a small part of its earnings and "pro" models just a sub-line of that.

I get your point, but it'd be nice to see if they do actually want to improve upon their existing pro lines. It doesn't take superior R&D to figure out that pros want at least the same port layout.

They surprise me once in a while like the last PCI-E SSD upgrade that gave is insanely fast speeds on the SSD side of things without publishing that info as a way to advertise performance boost. They just kinda did it. Here's hoping to them pleasantly trying to surprise us with more things (that we'd use) .. Hope being the key word.

Apple isn't quite done with it's slaughter of poor Wacom yet, Wacom still has the 22" and 27" Cintiqs. Please Apple, give me a 27" iPad Pro 2, and get it done and over with.

OS X as it is today is not really any different to 7 or 8 years ago....

Microsoft have made huge advancements with the desktop & UI over the last 3 years - all for the better, particularly with Windows 10.....
I use Windows mainly for/at work. The task bar in Windows is really good, but it is the same since Windows 7. File management with Servers over VPN connections is much better in Windows, too; but it is still the same as in Windows 7. We exclusively use Windows 7 at work (Windows 10 is strictly forbidden). Privately I have gone through Windows 8, 8.1 and now 10. Windows 10 brought better DPI scaling, but it is still bad overall, compared to OS X retina technology. Window scrolling in Windows without focus is back (I remember is was there in Windows 3 or 95 or ...); OS X had it all the time.

Besides some cosmetics (and the 2 features I mentioned above), I really don't see much progress in Windows. In fact, some parts went to the worse: forced upgrades come to mind. Upgrades that take over the PC for long times. Privately I settled to Windows 7 SP1 x64 in a virtual machine with Parallels. I have disabled all updates and never ran into problems, as I use Windows only in VPN connections to the company network without Internet browsing.

I like the iCloud stuff that newer OS X versions brought to us. Microsoft is really late here and not there yet. I like the way OS X and iOS come closer together. I personally hope for more improvements on the iOS side to make the iPad Pro better integrated into my work flow.

I don't get this obsession with making the iPhone thinner and thinner. It's already too thin in my opinion. Make it a little thicker to allow for more battery capacity and design the dang thing so it is intended to use outside the climates of southern California. It is ridiculous that that I can't spend a couple hours outside in Minnesota winters without the silly thing shutting down. Waterproof and more rugged would be nice as well.

My Z3 Compact is whole 1.7 mm thicker than iPhone 6 and not once in the last year have I thought "I like this phone but it is just so darn thick". It's a design compromise forcing me to live with a two-day battery, which I know iPhone users would really dislike. ;)

I just wanted to share that your post not only made a lot of sense, it had a couple very good thought provoking points. Thanks!

I bet that Apple has bucket loads of new ideas and technologies hidden in the cupboard but they are only trickling out innovative products and upgrades to us because they don't have to do any more than that. They are the biggest company in the world and whilst sales are so high they don't have to do any more than is actually necessary. I think if sales dropped dramatically and they lost market share then they would bring products with a lot more technology and functionality but for the time being they will just control the rollout of new technology out because we keep buying year in year out

I disagree. As a product manager, I would assume they probably have tons of idea's in the cupboard. However, there's the reality that you can only get so much done in a year and give the complexity of everything Apple does, it's not surprising they "trickle" out products and features.

I agree with this, Apple probably has a lot of ideas that they are working on, they probably know what they will be doing for the iPhone 8, iPad Pro 2 and so on, that was one of the great things about Steve Job's, he could see what was around the corner before even consumers knew what they wanted next.

Now there is a guy who has mastered the multi quote feature. :D

This year I plan to only upgrade my MacBook. My 2011 MacBook Pro is showing its age plus I'm ready to get on board with the Retina display and much improved battery life of the newer Macs.

Will try to keep using my 6s Plus and not upgrade to the iPhone 7 but I know that's easier said than done.

looking forward to a skylake iMac 5K with an awesome new gpu to replace my current 5K imac. Iphone 7 will be insteresting and Ill buy it. I allready have an steel link apple watch, not gonna buy a new one ever I think. too short battery and too little fun to make justice for the cost of it...only the workout part is actually useful..I say apple watch will not become a big success over time. To expensive, people dont need it.

The fanboys will cry, saying that the richest company in the world can't find a way to efficiently manufacture the mini with TWO *gasp* different motherboards. No seriously, this line of "reasoning" was used many times in threads when the "new" downgraded mini was released.

They won't do it, because it would eat away at iMac, MBP, and Mac Pro sales. And that has proven to be motivation enough to deny consumers, the most amazing Mac desktop in history.

I prefer Apple to devote resources to fixing OS X. Those apps aren't created themselves, not matter how much Apple seems to want to ignore/distance itself from OS X.
