We all pretty much know the easter egg of "about:mozilla" in Netscape/Mozilla series (NS, Firefox, Seamonkey, Flock, etc) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Book_of_Mozilla

To solute the robots who help the humans, about:robots will bring another egg for you. just type in "about:robots" in your url bar and enter.

That fact that the favicon no longer allows me to single click to select the URL is a deal breaker. I'll stay with 2.x indefinitely

lol, don't blame the robot!

actually, you can single click any part of the url in urlbar to select the url.
Old habits are hard to break. Why would they change that? I believe it still behaves the same in Windows. One click 'on the favicon' selects the URL. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

no, clicking favicon will give your site information on all platforms.

I guess its to give users more information possible from url bar. Can't really blame that idea.

Anyway, if you click favicon, then click somewhere else, the site info will go away, and url will be selected... but thats two clicks.... lol

Keyhole is a design of back/forward buttons for firefox 3, it landed on Vista/XP version long time ago, and appears today on mac as well.

Personally, I think its ok, not spectacular, but quite unique.

Also, rumors has it that firefox 3 will have another beta (5) before final. This is an impressive update from firefox 2, I understand a lot of bugs need to be fixed. Will report more info when have them.

How come that in my firefox 3 beta 3 i can't get a "keyhole"?

im tracking nightly build, keyhole landed after beta3 branching, you can either wait for beta4 (very soon), or download nightly build following the link in my first post.

I hope there's an option to switch between the "keyhole" design and the one currently in beta 3, because I'm using beta 3 now and I prefer the current design.

"Keyhole" may grow on me though.

In pretty much every OSX app with the lozenge in the top right and an option for small icons, you can press CMD and the lozenge to change the size of the icons. FF needs to become more OSX-y. This release is a small step in the long way there.

well, if thats a intolerable inconvenience for somebody, maybe firefox indeed isn't for him/her.

Don't get me wrong, Im not saying firefox shouldn't do that, however, when weighing pros and cons, and looking at the priority list on developing map, I think there are more important stuff to be addressed before that.

Clevin do you know when Beta 4 will come out?

There isn't a date on Mozilla's beta 4 page.

Thanks.

beta 4 rc1 is already on the ftp server, I think It should be out in a week.

you are very welcome

I just checked, and looks like rc2 is out as well. Target might be coming Tuesday for beta 4 final.

beta 5 is out according to my updater

no, its beta5pre, upon the branching of one version, the trunk's number will be bumped to next one. Altho beta 4 was branched days ago, its not out yet.

Definitely, its not a major thing, but the main complaint many have about FF is that its not OSX-y enough, and this is just one of those things that make it feel like a port.

It comes down to pros and cons of totally mac-ify, I think at this stage, firefox will lose too much if it were to lose the extensions and themes just to be mac-ish.

I think mozilla has done a decent job in switching to cocoa, cairo, and improving a quite nice mac theme. Its pretty native from inside already....lol (if carbon should be called non-native:))

We will have to see, firefox 3 offers a whole lot more stuff inside and outside over version 2. I think It will attract new users (not sure how many tho :) ), more importantly I think it will definitely retain most of the old users.

The only reason I use Firefox is to do online trading as I trust it more than Safari and Camino when it comes to stability. Firefox 2 really is rock solid on OS X and Windows which is incredibly important. It is something I have only just got into so I'm still finding all the features of Firefox, but the question is, will it be worth upgrading to Firefox 3? As I said stability really is the most important factor (well and compatibility) here for me.

I realise it is still in beta but you should have an idea about stability to give me a general idea at this stage. If it is not worth it I guess I'll stick to Firefox 2.0.0.12.
