So what happens to those of us that used the public beta and enabled the iCloud Message thing? Could Apple be stupid enough to clear all those messages from the iPhone?
From what I heard in most threads, this feature wasn’t working half the time and when disabling doesn’t really what’s already within iMessage. Apple does have every right to clear and restart this feature because it is a beta and should not be used on production/personal devices that obviously need to keep data.

So what happens to my imessages if i upgrade to beta 5? I currently am using the imessages in icloud. Will anything bad happen?
I turned it off before upgrading. By turning it off, you device will download everything locally. Not sure what happens if you don’t turn it off before upgrading.

We are on beta 5 and still no 3D app switcher. What a disappointment. "Apple removed it for purposes?" For what purpose Apple removed such a useful feature. We don't need redesigned icons, Please bring back 3D app switcher. It was such a useful feature for me.

Just when I thought that Apple cannot possibly make the icons any uglier than they are right now...they have successfully outdone themselves.

I like ios 11, even with all the growing pains that come with beta testing, but losing 3D Touch app switching sucks! The home button is just clumsy for switching apps. I really hope they bring back this amazing power shortcut.

The betas expire, I wouldn't rely on staying on an old beta long term.
I think the beta profile expires, but your phone won’t suddenly stop working because of this. I could be mistaken though.

Betas are not meant for your primary phone with important data on it. It's a beta. Don't run it without accepting the consequences.

I'm kinda bummed about the iMessage thing, but I'll live.
I understand the appeal of iCloud syncing messages, but I don’t think I will ever use this feature. More of a protest than anything. I love how iMessages are encrypted end to end. When you upload iMessages to iCloud the security offered by end to end encryption is rendered moot.

I’m most upset about the loss of 3D Touch App switching. I’ve always felt double tapping the home button was clumsy. When 3D Touch was introduced as an alternative I was very happy. It’s the little things that can sometimes make an experience. This was one of those things for me. From what I’ve read, it doesn’t look like it will be coming back either ):

It’s actually not rendered moot at all. Craig talked about the challenges of syncing encrypted data with regard to this feature, but they achieved that.

Moot is perhaps an exaggeration, but have my doubts. My concerns are based on old news though. I have not heard about Craig’s explanation until you just mentioned it, so thank you. From what I have just read, I do feel a bit more optimistic about it.

it is beta. so....yeah.

Yes, they have every right to clear the iCloud data for a beta feature BUT they should not delete (or clear iCloud data that they removed from the phone locally and stored on iCloud instead) ANY userdata locally for people who are using the PB version. With the developer beta then sure, if i used that i would expect or take for granted that all my data can be wiped. With the PB though its different, with the PB version they should not move user data from the phone and put it in an experimental cloud feature and then clear it. During a cloud feature beta, all local data should stay on the phone.

Bummer about iCloud messaging syncing being pulled. That was one of the key features I was looking forward to.

He talked about it on John Gruber’s post WWDC show iirc. The gist of what he said was that Apple held off on implementing it (and other features like Face syncing) until they were sure they could do so privately and securely. I think it’s fair to say that Apple have a recent track record of holding back on features, sometimes to their competitive detriment (think, Siri, HomeKit, Photo sync etc.), when they feel they can’t yet do so in a way they’re completely sure preserves privacy.

That control center is garbage for accessibility

In what way?

In what way?
Visually impaired people cant navigate a mess like that. Theres very little differentiation in color or shape and everything jam packed in one place. Apple used to be high cognizant of these design decisions. Now they just slap "flat" things together and call it simple. Its garbage design with no personality and terrible usability in my opinion.

1) No two of these icons look particularly alike. Lightly visually impaired people are no worse off than before.
2) More heavily visually impaired people have Voiceover, High Contrast, Zoom, Magnifier, Larger Text, Bold Text and Display Accomodations
3) “Garbage design and no personality”. What, precisely, does this have to do with visually impaired people?

Perhaps before slapping together another troll talking points of the day word salad you could think more closely about what you want to say.

So what does the iCloud not storing messages mean? If i restore from iCloud then I won't have my messages restored too??

Yes, they will. Any messages present in your last iCloud backup will be restored. It’s just the same as iOS 10 until they resolve whatever issue made them put this feature on hold. iMessage Cloud sync is a different feature.
