Any indication if this version will trim back the degree to which iTunes is a processor hog? I find it really hard to understand why iTunes needs to use 20%-25% of my processor when it's hidden and not doing anything. I've noticed this ever since iT7. The irony of it is that I've noticed that the Windows version seems to be MUCH less of a processor hog. Go figure.

doesn't fix my Airtunes issue. To be honest, I can't be a 100% sure it isn't some general quicktime/OS X/airport-express issue. But it only came up with iTunes 8.
Now that I have upgraded to iTunes 8, when I select a remote speaker, iTunes gives me an error message that my Firewall settings will not allow Airtunes. At first I just clicked on "Open Firewall Settings" and modified my settings based on some Google searches, but it kept giving me that error message unless I turned off the Firewall. However, while experimenting, I noticed that I can still use Airtunes if I just click on "Ignore" even though I keep my firewall settings the same as before. By the way, I use 10.4.11.

I cannot say for sure whether it would have worked even if I had not fiddled with my Firewall, but I guess it would. It seems this Airtunes problem is so common, but still quite random, that iTunes is issuing a blanket error message. They should have used ".. may prevent ..." phrase.

Really? I keep my computer on 24/7 and iTunes is always on. iTunes never goes past 5% for me. When I'm playing a track, it goes to around 2-4%, movies go to 10-14%. And actually, Windows is more of a cpu hog. My friends toshiba satellite runs iTunes at 30-40% cpu when hes watching a movie, and 20% when hes playing a song.

• Seamlessly plays the current song when creating a new Genius playlist.

Sounds promising, if it works it'll make me more likely to use Genius now and then. Genius is (at least in theory) a great way to explore my iTunes library.

All in all, I'm still missing the old interface. Browsing just isn't the same in 8...

Gads, I wish it would be so low for me. Of course, part of it is that I'm on a 1.67GHz G4. But still, why would it use so much when it's not doing anything?

At work I have a Dell Precision T3400 (Core2Duo, 2.13GHz, I think). On that computer I don't see iTunes taking much more than 3-5%, and that's only when it's playing a song. If it's idle, then, at least according to the Task Manager, it's using 0% of the processor.

I would love it if I could get it down to 10% when playing music and 0-1% when idle. I just don't understand why it isn't there already.

Genius still unavailable for many tunes that are available from the store.

Example: Any song from Al Stewart's "Year of the Cat".

They didn't fix my most annoying bug: go to list view for an album (where you can see all the tracks). Rename the album by selecting all the tracks and changing the Album field in the Info (Apple-I) pane. Instead of seeing the album's name change in the title bar, all your tracks disappear. You have to click back up one level to the Albums view (where you can see the covers), then click back down to see the tracks again.

I agree, this is very annoying and not fixed yet!

iTunes and :apple:TV updated and still getting 15000 error when trying to use AirTunes (which had been fine up to 8.0). No firewall turned on :(

Ah, still not possible to hide Genre browser or iTune store links. Apple why have you removed this option.

Although it can be fixed by a terminal command on a Mac, it's a but more difficult under Windows. Come on Apple does anyone ever browse by Genre?

Press and hold on song iPhone creates genius playlist

Not sure if this is new or not, but if you press and hold on a song on the iPhone it creates a genius playlist, cool!

After I installed 8.01, iTunes could not connect to the store anymore. Also, i could not stream radio anymore... Did not try to sync with my ipod touch. Maybe I will wait with that one.

ANd I thought I was the only one having this problem. Hopefully they did fix it

No there are lots and lots of people affected by this problem. Here's a 13 page thread on the Apple support forums about the problem.

(The fix that worked for me is to change my firewall settings from "Allow only essential services" to "Set access for specific...", and then adding iTunes to the list.)

Still have multiple versions of apps

My Music->iTunes->Mobile Applications folder is now over 900Mb because of all the old versions of apps that iTunes insists on keeping on my disk. The Hold Em app alone has 3 versions, thereby taking up 384.5Mb of space.

I was hoping this update would address the issue. Some hope.

Why is it so hard for Apple to have iTunes dump the old versions and just keep the latest versions on my drive?

Yes they fixed it so when your using the mini player to listen to tunes but have safari or something else selected when u press the green button on the mini player to expand it, it no longer opens behind the current application :)

Close the iTunes window while its playing, instead of hiding iTunes. Seems to reduce its CPU usage by a lot.

(And you'll get the window back just as easy as when you've hidden the app, just by clicking it in the Dock)

right click the bar with all the browser info (title, artist, album, etc) and it should bring up the list to deselect certain ones!

It looks like they messed with how the IR Remote interacts with the Mac. The volume +/- on the IR Remote used to control system volume, now it only controls iTunes volume, GRR!

iTunes 8 and Vista fix?

In comparison to when iTunes 7 was released, iTunes 8 has been quite stable. The only significant problem I've read about is that iTunes 8 and Vista had some problems that would cause Vista to crash, apparently due to a driver.

Has this problem been resolved?

Is there a GUI option for disabling iTunes Music Store links in iTunes?

Why no, I had no idea Apple had an online music store!

and STILL no option to turn off those annoying iTunes Music Store arrow icons!

No GUI option, but if you are on OS X you can disable the Store Arrow links by going to terminal.

To DISABLE the store link arrows in iTunes 8:

Code:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes show-store-arrow-links -bool FALSE

To ENABLE the store link arrows in iTunes 8:

Code:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes show-store-arrow-links -bool TRUE

You can also reverse the arrow, so that a click keeps you in your own library and an option-click takes you to the store:

To reverse the way the iTunes store links work so that when you click on one you stay within your local library:

Code:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes invertStoreLinks -bool TRUE

Hope this helps.
