That sounds nice !
I wanted a Pause button for the times when you must do a quick detour for a needed pitstop, and Map keeps yelling you back to the route. & Resume when you’re ready to continue yr trip.

I thought I heard apple maps was going to introduce always on lane assistance? I certainly hope this happens. I'd also love to see apple maps come to the web so I can use it in safari.

Multi-stop routing is long overdue. I am looking forward to it.
Apple Maps has had lane assistance here in Canada for at least the last couple of iOS major releases.

Yes. I love the Pause button in the iOS 16 Apple Maps.

I haven't tested it yet, but it looks like once you run a route using watchOS 9, on subsequent runs you can select it as your running workout and run against yourself. No way to set up a new route ahead of time though.
Thanks for that. Limited use but better than nothing

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the only reason google maps can do all those things is because they track every single android user without their permission.

Use google maps? Your buy-in is the implicit agreement to allow to be tracked and the info uploaded to google servers.

No wonder android phones have to be huge batteries with chips and screens attached: all that tracking and processing constantly.
Yeah that’s a benefit (and the main benefit that got me using it over Google Maps) of Apple Maps that I forgot to mention: privacy.

I use Apple Maps as I’m tin hat and don’t trust google with my data. I know I know. But it’s directions are sometimes off roads aren’t updated for fires etc. Here’s an example. I was leaving a hotel parking lot at 11pm after a flight in. Apple Maps said take a left and leaving the hotel parking I didn’t see a no left turn sign. I turn left and there is a concrete median barrier I didn’t see due to the rain and lack of light. It’s my fault for trusting Apple Maps and the weather conditions. I checked it the next day after bending my rim on my car and compared Apple Maps to google. Google had it correct.

Is lane assistance in Canada always on? It's not in the US. I am running iOS 15.5 on an iPhone 12 Pro Max. I looked in the map settings for an always on switch for lane assistance, but it isn't an option yet.

Always on. I have a 12 Pro.

“Stay in the left lane.” “Stay in the two middle lanes.” “Stay in the second lane from the right.”

I’m just used to Google Maps. Not that either Maps or Google Maps are perfect, I tried using both for walking directions in downtown on a bright Sunday morning three weeks ago and ended walking in circles. I had to use my own sense of direction to find my own destination.

Hm. I just noticed a couple days ago that my "End" button at the bottom of the route has disappeared and no amount of swiping, tapping, rudely gesturing or verbal threats brings it back. Now the GPS just goes on forever until I encase the device in a concrete boot and drop it to the bottom of the sea. I wonder if this weirdness has to do with the Maps service changing to accommodate the new iOS16 app.

I don’t have an END button unless I tap the bottom area which has a ^ on the right side. Then I can see the END ROUTE button.

Perhaps this is the same for you?

Could be, thx for the heads up, I'll check it out.
Extra taps to dig basic features out of submenus hidden under nondescript icons aren't my favorite things, especially when driving.

In Athens, Greece where I live I saw a few months ago an Apple car - it was witnessed from other people too at various areas.

I suppose that means we’ll also be seeing new features but when, that’s unknown - especially when I read comments re US.

Just want to say, for as big of a “deal” it is to have the multi-stop feature in Apple Maps now, I’ve never, since I’ve had an iPhone 4, wished for that feature. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad it’s an option, but it’s really a feature equivalent to being able to set a custom wallpaper. If I’m using navigation to go somewhere, I’m going to a place, not multiple places. Have you ever experienced the embarrassment of having your navigation continue talking after you get to your destination and get out of your car and it starts talking again because navigation hasn’t ended? That’s what I imagine happening with this.
I feel like adding a stop just creates a confusing UI situation too. If any company can solve that, it’s Apple. I’ll check it out but I don’t plan on using it.
I feel like releasing that feature (finally) was purely pressure “because the other map apps have it.”

Apple Maps directions changes according to sunrise and sunset, not according to how your light and dark mode is set. The app background changes to dark mode but not the actual route. At least that is the way for me. I would like to have light mode map display all the time, as I can do with Google Maps but there is not setting for that in Apple Maps.
Odd but that's not how it works for me on my 13 Pro Max running iOS 15.5. I just opened Apple Maps at 12:03 midday in the UK on a bright and sunny 28C summer's day and the Maps app is still running in dark mode. My clock is definitely set to the right time. The behaviour you describe would at least make more sense to me, in fact I could probably live with that, but it certainly doesn't seem to be how my setup is behaving.

Is everything in dark mode, including the map itself, or just the app?

When you use multi-stop in Apple Maps in iOS 16, the “car” doesn’t start talking again, it waits for you to tap the Next Stop button on screen.

Unfortunately maps is too late all website links take you to Google maps which is disappointing as apple maps is finally getting ther unfortunately 10 years too late ..

Move to another manufacturer that provides what you want and find happiness?
That’s not a solution. If Apple products bring him happiness he can’t just switch to Microsoft or move to the US.

Apple needs to step up its game and translate features faster. It’s not that hard if you have billions of dollars.
