(Today is) A dirty, dull, dreary day, a freezing and frigid February day, with frozen water in the form of sleet and spitting hail stones slanting from the skies.

And, it is so, so, so, dismally and dreadfully dark, - almost like a reversion to the deepest darkest, dismal days of winter.
Here it’s been beautiful all day. A rare frost this morning, but sunshine nearly all day.
Not much in the way of wind either.

Spent the morning cleaning the cars and fitting some mudflaps to Mrs AFB new car.
Then this afternoon a nice walk in the woods down the road.

Central London was wonderfully sunny earlier today. Cold though, but I'm OK with that.

Lots of memes along the lines of "What's that scary bright thing in the sky? Aliens?".

Unfortunately, the forecast for tomorrow isn't the same.
Same. Back to the rain tomorrow we could really use some prolonged dry spells. Many of the fields around here resemble lakes and some of the roads look like rivers.

Same here in Geneva. December wasa one of the longest months in 10 years without sun. January was only marginally better. February is kind of mixed.

Nasty hailstone style showers today - preceded by a sky full of charcoal coloured clouds, slate grey, dark, ominous and threatening - and interspersed with brief bursts of sunshine.

But, cold; this is a frigid, freezing February.

These weather reports remind me of Stephen Fry's radio parody...
Here is the Shipping Forecast issued by the Meteorological Office at 1400 hours Greenwich Mean Time.
Finisterre, Dogger, Rockall, Bailey: no.
Wednesday, variable, imminent, super.
South Utsire, North Utsire, Sheerness, Foulness, Eliot Ness:
If you will, often, eminent, 447, 22 yards, touchdown, stupidly.
Malin, Hebrides, Shetland, Jersey, Fair Isle, Turtle-Neck, Tank Top, Courtelle:
Blowy, quite misty, sea sickness. Not many fish around, come home, veering suggestively.

Anyone here sell stuff on facebook marketplace?
I do it here and there, depending on the item you get “good” inquiries or “waste of time” .
Typically I’ll look at similar items , and price mine below mid point of avg to sell. After 2-3 days drop price.

I sold a laptop on FBMP once, and the guy bought it within an hour of me listing it. So I've had good results. Clearly that is not the case with everyone, though, as I've had several friends who have gotten scammed. But I suppose scams can happen anywhere... they just may be more common on Marketplace - I don't know for sure, though.

Here’s a generic listing

Title:
“Yakima PowderHound 6 Ski & Snowboard Car Roof Rack”

Then body of description, immediately I say cash only, local!!

“$100 cash only, no trades, no Venmo. SE Michigan local.
Meet at Hartland Mugg n Bopps M59 , 1/2 mile east of US23.”

Then simple background why selling, condition, and some specs, of course photos tell their story.

“Bought this Jan-2023 for my son who was on high school ski team.
No longer used, in great shape.

Yakima PowderHound 6 Ski & Snowboard Car Roof Rack Fits 6 Ski Pairs or 4 Boards”

Mrs AFB has exchanged a few things on FB. But I’ve never joined. Never will.

I sold a used fridge there a few months ago and I found it useful. A tip I always checked the profile of those interested and eliminated some obvious fake profiles.

I've never sold anything online, and the only times I've purchased something (other than from Amazon) have been years ago on eBay. Although I'm on FaceBook, I rarely remember to go there and see what's new and I've never explored their marketplace. I was only vaguely aware that there is such a thing.

Years ago friends coerced me into joining FB and it's just not my thing. I don't post anything much except in response to friends' posts now and then. I've thought about simply unsubscribing and leaving but apparently once you're on there they really don't delete your account after you've left.

I am trying to find a quote from approximately one year ago I read in this thread. If I am not mistaken it was from an assyrian king or maybe sumerian one, that said something like "The sons do not obey their fathers anymore..." It sounded like a lament how the times have been changed. And the timeline was something 2300B.C. Any help? Thank you.

Walking 3 miles every other day to continue my weight loss journey, but it's getting harder. My ankles swell and hurt, so I have to stop every quarter mile or so and rotate them for a couple minutes before I can continue. Even when my ankles don't hurt, my back will. The surgery I had 6 years ago doesn't bother me as much as my upper back does. I think I'm developing another herniated disc.

I was just reading something on Nisus Writer, which suggests the future is questionable. I'm saddened. I never used it, but the few times I saw it impressed me. I always heard good things about it.

It's also one of those few names that I remember from the era when I had my first Macintosh in the late 80s that still exist.

I know this is like teaching your gran to suck eggs (why do grans suck eggs anyway? No teeth?) but ... try another cardio.

How do you feel about stationary cycling?

Honestly, I've never given it a try. It's passed through my mind a few times though. I don't want to admit defeat and quit walking, but I will if I have to. I just love the area because there's so much nature around and the people are generally sparse (but friendly).

That sounds lovely! I live in a city, so forget that some people have this option right outside their front door.
I live out in the country, but it's dangerous. The roads are narrow and curved, and the local populace don't exactly follow speed limits. So I usually travel about 15-20 minutes (by car) to a fairly close by park and walk there. I set my workout to start as soon as I get out of the car and go, but thank God there's a pause feature, otherwise I'd be finished in double or triple the time.

Another idea ... hiking poles? Takes some weight off your knees and ankles, and gives a slight upper-body workout.
