It’s spring break here in Michigan for lots of people, my school teacher wife also. We’re visiting her mom in Roger’s City, about 1 hour south / east of Mackinaw bridge.
They got 50 year snow event 30” snow 2 weeks ago, well Thursday might add onto their totals with 15”+ more, crazy.
Instead of Tuesday - Thursday, we’re now today Monday thru Wednesday to avoid it.

Here’s what 30” snow looked like 2 weeks ago, this from her garage door to backyard ..

I hear you. I do. Truly.
I should learn ... I really should ... We've been around in our present form for, what, 300,000 years? Most of that time we've been really hungry, and I suspect we've tried to eat just about every root, vegetable and animal going. There's probably a really good reason we eat the stuff we do and I think dandelion roots just prove it...

Similar to what we got in Wisconsin not too long ago. Looks as though we’re on deck for even more later this week.

I'm from the northeastern corner of Indiana, and I moved away about 18 years ago. I don't miss the snow and the cold whatsoever!

Amen to that.

The online environment actually encourages this, but I hear you.

Oh, yes.

I know the feeling......

These days, I have come to the realisation that I cannot abide - cannot bear to listen to, cannot stand to hear sounds that represent that precise combination of vowels and consonants - podcasts where the voices reflect the (various) accents of that continent from which they hail.

Now, yes, I will (still) willingly read the transcripts of such podcasts; but I cannot - and will not - listen to them, that is, not by choice (coercion and compulsion are different matters): My ears rebel and twitch in a fury of frustrated agitation - and not even when they are saying (and writing) stuff with which I am in (complete, or partial) agreement.
It's not just that continent btw, and if I understand you even folks who are part of the Commonwealth on the same continent will be included? Well NVM.

have never (despite travelling in, and working in, three continents) wished to visit the place

If you ever make a single exception to your rule, I recommend visiting Washington, DC (but not until the current regime comes to an end, obviously, however that happens) because it is one of the few places in the world where a Leonardo painting can be seen for free, without crowds, and not behind a massive barrier nor layers of glass.

It's sad but most visitors to DC have no idea it's there and/or have no interest.

And another stunning artwork in DC that is never crowded, without an admission charge, and possible to see up close (perhaps the closest any of us will come to seeing something like the Amber Room?):

Reading the Nutrition Facts on the back of a 100g chocolate bar, I see: "Protein: 9g". So to get 100g of protein per day, I'd need to eat 11 bars. That would be a total of 1100g of chocolate, or 1.1kg, or about 2.4 lbs.

Good to know, in case I'm ever stranded in a desserted island.

Sounds standard for the US!

...Recently, I've been wishing half I did year first when putting dates as part of computer document names, since a sort by name wold put similar documents in chronological order.
I started that habit in 1984, when I got my first Zenith Z-100 desktop computer, MS-DOS, and filenames were restricted to 8 characters! Data sets from my systems/programs were then kept on separate 5.25" floppy disks, one for PLSS, one for HAVE Charcoal, etc (we didn't have them newfangled "hard drives" in those days. 🤨

Went to the neurologist today and found out what's been causing a lot of my worsening back pain: 3 bulging discs, 2 of which are degenerative, and located around the site of my first surgery in 2020. The doctor told me I'm "an accident waiting to happen," and put me on weight restrictions. Funnily enough, he said I could continue walking 3 miles every other day, so long as I wear a back brace. Not sure how I feel about that since I can't even go 1/4 mile without intense pain.

Sorry to hear this. Walking was the only thing I was allowed to do after I had a Laminectomy (three vertebrae had bone removed). I had the operation because I had no control of my left foot. It just hung down.

Maybe consider swimming? The buoyancy of water relieves pressure on the spine and can actually ease back pain. And with some easy swimming, you can burn calories to help lose weight at the same time.

That's a good idea. Since it's spring now the community center should have the pool open. I actually forgot all about that place. Thank you for the suggestion.

I'm so sorry to hear that, but I'm glad you got relief and treatment. Back pain is no joke. Take care of your spine, everyone!

Well to lighten the mood Happy first of the month everyone.
But it's the first of April, so this is probably a setup for a prank.

Luckily, my avatar is wearing a prank-proof helmet.

Yes, it's a bit snug over the ears, but it feels ok.

The Peanuts was my favourite comic as a kid and there was a certain gold medalist with a hairstyle. The joke is ruined now....

On April 1st I would go to Dunkin' Donuts before work, buy two donuts for myself and ask for one of their bigger boxes, empty. Then I'd hit the adjacent grocery store and buy a crudité/veggie tray, put that in the box, then leave the box in the break room with "Happy April 1st!" written inside the cover.
All morning long you'd heard muttered curse words coming from the break room, and I had to stifle the giggles. One of the few things I miss about working.
