Everything is relative.

My sister-in-law (who is German, but working and living here) has had to endure the (indefinite) postponement of her father's memorial service in Germany - he died two weeks ago - on account of current conditions and restrictions on travel.
So true.

My father turned 81 on Tuesday (my Mom just a couple months away from 79) — they live on another continent. If something should happen to them there is nothing I can do.

Charities around the globe are desperate — hospices, refuges, support for victims of crime etc… facing ruin and closing their doors.

And yet some find the time to wring their hands over the perceived injustice of lower interest rates. Go cry me a river…

Oh oh. It’s been good knowing ya! 😂

All very true, perhaps I should have specified in my first post though - It's less about the money as such, more that I have been saving to move out, for quite a while as I want to be able to stay in this area, but this is one of the worst areas of the country for house price: average wage ratio. So this is a very disheartening episode that makes it all feel in jeopardy.

It's perfectly understandable for people to be concerned with their own circumstances. It's easy for you to say this when you're clearly well established and have far less to be concerned about (dare I say: ok Boomer?). I want my own property, I want to be able to provide for a family, I want at least some of the opportunities you were afforded at the same stage of your life.

Of course there are people who are in more desperate need, and do you know despite your miserly characterisation I'm actually trying to help with that in my own small way. I've been volunteering in my spare time to help deliver pharmaceuticals to some of the elderly in remote properties in the area. It's a very small effort, but I could easily be holed up at home in blissful isolation and to hell with anyone else, if I chose.

Sorry to hear that. Any other symptoms?

Thanks. No. Just some chills and fatigue. I’ve been fighting something for a couple weeks anyway. I haven’t been sick for a couple years, so I’m due.

Nice Pez dispenser. So what's the problem?

😆 Btw - I pointed the Pez dispenser at Lulu’s butt...it registered 96 F. She’s acting normal so she must be okay.

Now that everything is closed, I have been spending lots of time at the park. I need it to "refresh" from these stressful days at work.
Sometimes I am alone, sometimes with my wife, always with a good book. I am re-evaluating everything; my life, the world. The concept of Meaning. Death.
Nature, as in that beautiful thing around us. Knowledge, that beautiful thing for us.
Family. The need to stay together. Virtue.
It's beautiful to see more families at the park (probably the only good thing of this pandemic), playing together, walking together, having fun, or just spending time. Of course it's equally horrifying seeing those families in which all members are walking looking at their phones - maybe wearing headphones -and not exchanging a word.... but they're the minority.
Time goes by. Anything can worsen our life in a second. A virus, a financial crisis, whatever. Anything can worsen our life in a long period of time. Overeating, bad financial investments, bad decisions and habits, whatever.

Had a tech call from my Mum. Her iPad won’t charge.
‘Have you tried a different cable’ I ask.
‘Check to see if there is fluff in the charging socket’ I ask.
I explain getting it to an :apple: store might be difficult currently (especially as she’s in her 70’s).
Get a text 10 minutes later. The socket for the power adapter wasn’t switched on!

So if you have a green star, you're OK? I guess these guys aren't having any issues:

We've had a bug too, or allergies, or both, zero temp (used forehead, ear and a different device), chest it tight, but it's a lot in the sinuses, doesn't seem to align with typical symptoms. Went to the beach today, feel better (hope you get to feeling better too).

LOL!!!!! Yep, that'll do it! Well, right now even if there had been a serious problem she wouldn't have been able to take it to an Apple store anyway, as they are all closed "until further notice."

We had a fairly lengthy landline phone service outage (so also DSL) today. No clue what happened and it was weird because the electrical power stayed on the whole time.

There's no cell service around here, so no way to report landline outages unless someone drives up on a hilltop and then totally gets down in the virtual mud with the phone company customer service, in order to get them to take a "general outage" service request.

The phone co won't take that sort of request without a bunch of individual numbers being reported out of service. So first you call six or seven local numbers out of your local contacts list, folks who should be home 'cause they're old or working from home.... and when they all don't get picked up then you dial the phone company and read all the numbers to the rep, who apparently must have those numbers or can't file a "whole village out" ticket.

Well I don't have a car now so I was just a useless bystander. My solution meanwhile was go back into my studio and make some more voodoo dolls. Guess it worked after 3 hours, and I didn't even stick any pins in them.

Amazon, that is if you have an internet device available. 👀

I agree you can’t beat nature, But, you know runners in San Francisco are getting pinged on for running in public spaces. I imagine they don’t want any mingling in parks, although Families might be considered different. That said, this from the guy who was frequenting the YMCA, and now I’ve been walking the green belts and might see 6 people, some of whom cross to the far opposite side of the trail. ;)

This quarantine thing is likely to have a lot of knock-on psychological damage even more worrying than the economic one. We've been told that staying in offices, spending to much screen time be it phones, TVs, desktops etc. is bad and now folks are expected to stay indoors. Not as big an issue for those with houses but folks in apartments like me?

Origami... make a thousand paper cranes from brightly colored magazine ads... attach thread, stick to ceiling, open the window a bit for the air and watch them fly! You will be a thousand miles away in no time at all. Or, your place will need a good cleaning and the exercise will help clear away brain fog of isolation?!

Agreed. Think of how pissed people are going to be once they have to stop quarantining, go back to go back to the office, and talk with real people!

That's… that's what you meant about psychological damage, right?

I’m wondering how many pregnancies will arise out of this lockdown stuff?

I know I‘m safe because this is BAU for me.

I suspect that you may be thinking of some unintended consequences of the New York blackout.

In any case, from my perspective, any sane woman would have prioritised ensuring that she had several months' supply of (safe, reliable, and affordable) birth control - something that may have been even more pressing than stashing away several months' (possibly redundant) supply of toilet paper.

And anyway, if they say that absence makes the heart grow fonder, then enforced and endless proximity may well harden that organ to resist and reject overtures of a romantic nature.

Have I already mentioned my doctor who wants me to visit him twice a year to renew my prescriptions? I think I have, but don’t remember if it was this thread. I look at this as an unnecessary office visit, think of it as subsidizing the doctor.

Anyway, my new doctor that I am trying to get established with, just cancelled my Monday appointment for an annual physical. They are just doing video conferencing, what? I would call doctors appointments as essential, would you? They don’t actually expect people to go to the emergency room for everything do they?? It’s possible I misunderstood and he was just not taking on new patients during this time. Why not, is it that hard?

I need renewals on my prescriptions, and not all doctors, I suspect not most have closed their offices or put this kind of restrictions on their practices. So, I made an appointment with my old doctor for 3Apr to get a physical and RX renewals.

Definitely an increase. :)

@Gutwrench hope you are okay.

Hope everyone else is okay here too.

Glad we have a bottled water alternative here when preexisting health conditions and crappy tap water prevent us and the family downstairs from drinking tap.

Anyway, hoping everyone here is well and dealing with lockdown etc. okay.

No worries here. Thanks very much. I am much younger than @LizKat. 😝

Actually I’m so despicable germs don’t like me...either.

Our view from yesterday, quiet on our corner of the continent ... at least for now, another couple of weeks of spring break ******s ...

Water was super clear, still a bit chilly for me, low tide, nice tidal pools and some fun skim areas.

Sometimes you think too highly of people and of their ability to take common sense into consideration...

Well, well... these are mixed signals here.
