Fairly excited for the new Ford Bronco and I'm very confident that it will be my next vehicle. I spent a lot of time this weekend watching YouTube video's of people on their off road adventures. Most of them were of course in Jeeps since that is the most popular brand of vehicle for off roading. But we'll see how the new Bronco stacks up against the time tested Jeeps.

My 22nd birthday today. I’m not a big “birthday party” person, but still, under normal circumstances I’d at least be spending the day in SF with my family and a close friend. This year I’m going to take advantage of the mild weather and go cycling. (And reward myself with some cake afterwards) :)
happy birthday!

An amazing view back in time, NYC in 1911. Upscaled and colorized to 60fps and 4K.

The most impressive thing I noticed was how well everyone dressed back then. Contrast that with today where many people dress like **** when going out.

Holy ****, that's spectacular, over 100 year view into the past, but with fidelity like it was shot today, it's beautifully haunting, I mean, those people are ghosts now.

Happy belated @ThisBougieLife !

Saw my first "bald" Blue Jay this morning. They molt their head feathers & crown in July and August. I heard it first and then when I saw it, I said, "What's that mostly gray-blue bird...OH." 😎

Birds were very active this morning, calm before the storm.

For everyone in the path of Isaias, stay safe.

Hope you all have a good day. 🤗

That is fascinating, & thanks for sharing. I love watching this sort of stuff.

Agree re the relative formality & dapper appearance of everyday "street" clothing for both men & women, although women's clothing has been transformed beyond all recognition in the 109 years since that clip was shot.

A similar clip of London shot at that time would have been even more formal, in terms of men's apparel. Most men, even in summer would have worn waistcoats, ("vests" to Our Transatlantic Cousins) whereas in this clip, clearly shot in summer in NY, hardly anyone does.

The other thing that struck me was the almost complete absence of women from the public space (apart from a few specific places, such as up-market shops).

Mind you, even when looking at clips from demonstrations from the late 60s, I'm also struck by how well turned out, and dapper, and elegantly attired, people were at the time.

I am of a generation which remembers dressing up for church back in the 1950's -- including hats and gloves -- and dressing up to go on an airplane flight to somewhere. Even in the mid-60's in some areas, people still dressed more formally for church and such. I went to a college that had been sponsored by the Methodist Church and on Sundays, although we were not required to attend church services, we were still required to dress up for the Sunday meal in the dining hall. During the week we could dress more casually, although most did tend to still wear skirts and such to classes rather than jeans or pants. Jeans were pretty much reserved for Saturdays.

Even in the four years I was at that school, though, the winds of change were blowing and things were changing, and people were beginning to question old standards and old ways of doing things. By my senior year in college, the school itself had begun easing up on certain rules and regulations, and -- gasp! -- even took the amazing step of having a dormitory that was for both men and women (two floors for the women, two floors for the men)! That was a huge step from the way the dorms were set up earlier, when they were strictly for one group or the other.

Yes, when I was a child, people dressed up for church, and my parents - who were both comfortable (unlike many of their generation) with wearing shorts on holiday, or the beach, or the garden, would never have dreamed of doing so when on a trip to the city, or when meeting friends for a coffee.

Honestly, we're probably gone too far the other way...

I will probably never wear shorts to work or to church (though I will wear jeans). When I worked at the campus library, we were free to wear shorts, but I just couldn't do it. It seemed much too informal.

I still wear a shirt and tie when in the office, even though I’m not required too. I do so because I like the look and it feels as if I’m dressed for business. When I get home I change into more casual attire and this then makes me feel more “off duty”.

I’ve been working from home since March 17th and there is no real distinction between work and “home”. Now I just walk from my small office at home into my Living room and I’m done! While I prefer working from home I do miss dressing for the office.

I read somewhere that one should dress up for work even when at home as apparently it creates a ritual and a "formality" that helps with productivity and business-like behavior.

I too wear a shirt and trousers to work. Stopped wearing a tie years ago though. Many of my colleagues wear jeans (even though our company dress code states they shouldn’t).
Then when I get home I slip into something more casual.
