I got up this morning to find a bag of food at my front door. An early morning DoorDash delivery that no one in my household ordered. There's no receipt with it, and I can't even tell what restaurant it's from (what restaurant sells french fries and fortune cookies?) I thought maybe it was for my next door neighbor, so I went over to ask and it's not his. So free food, I guess? Feel bad for whoever ordered it.

I think I'd be a little worried to eat it, but was it _only_ french fries and fortune cookies? Hahaha, that's a heck of an order.

Yea Space Mountain I think goes up and down a lot though. I love Steel Force at Dorneypark. And honestly I don't like them much in general so have only really been on two wooden: Hercules at Dorney and one at Knoebels. Others might not be as shaky.

The Chinese places here have French Fries.
I went on Space Mountsin with my Son, and before I anticipated it would be like flying though space seeing planets go by, but in reality it was being jerked around in the dark. o_O

I am here right now ...

The new Hagrid's coaster (also at Universal Orlando) is SPECTACULAR, it's got phenomenal theming, SEVEN launches, a 70˚backdrop, a full on completely vertical drop, so fun, maybe the best ride in the entire US.

Yeah, that coaster-boner you were talking about? How long was it again that I should wait before contacting the doctor..?

If you're there, why are you here?

Hahaha, well, I sent a photo to our friends (also at the beach, but over on the island), and then I was reading some stuff in the ARM Mac area, er, combined the two I guess :D

Holy smokes, the water was like 80 degrees, and the waves got fierce, super fun!

Is it awful of me I thought he was holding a smoked turkey leg in the frame?

I don't skip leg day :D

All things considered there are some valid reasons to be on the moon rather than Earth these days...

Maybe a little too soon to be giving up on "the big blue marble" but apparently not too soon to be looking around for a habitable option elsewhere. The biggest disadvantage of Earth's moon would be having to bring just about everything we need along with us. We need faster transportation... to other and more habitable locations if we're not gonna fix this place up.

I threatened to run away once (age 4) and suggested my destination would be the moon. My grandma's cook asked what I would have for lunch on the way, and when I said I'd pick blueberries, she said maybe I should just run away to the back garden because for sure there were some of those handy out there. I fell for the idea, but when I got as far as the barn was reminded by my granddad that I hadn't finished my chores yet and so how about doing those and then I could eat lunch in the house and run away to the moon right after that.

Life gets so complicated when you listen to grownups.

If not the moon, how about the red marble? :p

For myself I've often wished we could overcome the assorted hostilities that would be offered us by Venus: a corrosively inhospitable atmosphere, scalding temperatures and the tendency of its volcanic activity to completely resurface the the planet now and then (and just once would finish us off). But there's just something so appealing about that bright ornament of our morning or evening sky. I love to see Venus from my stairwell window this time of year, rising in the pre-dawn sky like a pearl over the trees of the ridge out back.

Too bad something so beautiful from afar would be such a threat to human life if we popped in for a visit.

That‘s me before morning coffee.

No worries, I am pretty sure that we'll make it a colony just then to behave like the kids in Ray Bradbury's "All Summer in a Day."
(probably the only sci-fi short story that made me teary eyed).

It seems like the builder for our next little renovation/addition is nearly done with his current project...

Following on from that...

Spoke to the builder today. Actually I should say, I spoke to my wife and she spoke to the builder. He and I mostly just point at things and give hand gestures to indicate some basic semblance of yes/no/good/bad/up/down/left/right/smaller/bigger/etc. He doesn't speak English, I speak very little Thai, and roof pitches, weight loadings of steel beams and concrete surfaces are hardly in the little bit of conversational Thai I do speak.

Anyway. As the gif intimates, it's on like donkey kong, albeit with a roof about a meter higher than originally planned (more overhead storage space). Hod damn this thing is going to be glorious.

Very cool.

I'm am/was into trial riding, have done it on motorcycles, did it on bikes (BMX, later modified mountain, kind of before dedicated designs), that was years (*ahem*, maybe even decades ...) ago, and the current state of the sport is just amazing.

Probably the most well known rider is Danny MacAskill, and beyond competing, he's been making very highly produced videos of his art (can't think of a better word for it), some are SUPER clever, great musical choices, some beautiful views of his native Scotland. He's done some setups in gyms, did a ride with his adorable niece in a kid-trailer (obv. that one used some props).

This is a fun one, outdoors, great song, enjoy, and be amazed. :D

(The end of the video has some great outtakes!)

I would have probably to take this line of discussion to @Huntn's PRSI version of the "what's on your mind" thread, considering the comment I was just about to tack in here. (But meanwhile a yes on that Bradbury story reaction for me as well).

Toning down or rather going tangentially to the rest of what went through my mind for this thread: if the USA and other nations invested more than a so far preliminary look into a Venus "colony", it would likely take the form of a platform in the upper atmosphere of Venus (not so hostile), to be used to support assorted scientific investigations and possibly including periodic human-crewed descents to the surface of Venus, since we do have assorted plastics and alloys that could withstand the hostile environment there for weeks or more. The research would not be limited to but would include inquiry into extreme climate change and tolerance for that among organic life forms already known to tolerate extreme conditions on Planet Earth. Without further comment here I will note that NASA did develop a project 'HAVOC' --High Altitude Venus Operational Concept-- but it is currently in archived status at NASA. For those interested, more here and here.

Meanwhile on my mind this morning, planet Earth's local atmosphere. Another weird evening of torrential rain and awesome light shows last night a few hours after nightfall, but with the thunder mostly muffled by the drumming of rain, rain, rain! I was grateful for a weak but lingering southwest breeze afterwards: at least the somewhat lowered air temperature managed to make its way in here after I could re-open the windows. Many of us depend on that natural air conditioning in the Catskills, but it gets disrupted if the evening breeze brings a storm with it and then drops off to a dead calm. Last night we got lucky!
