Enjoy your coffee and heating. Two essential luxuries. Substitute coffee for tea and oil for gas and I’m in complete agreement with you!

It struck me that I haven't needed to order oil since May, but, as winter approaches, now seems a good time to fill the tank, especially as I now have the heating on for a few hours in the morning, and in the evening, a period of time that will inevitably increase as temperatures drop with the arrival of winter.

My Dad uses oil at his house and apparently it’s at the lowest price it’s been for years.

Sounds lovely.

It is coming into the time of the year when my electric blanket is called upon, summoned into service, ready to do duty over the winter.

In common with Mrs AFB, I do detest the cold.

I'm not a fan of cold either. Living in Texas, I can handle heat. Cold just makes me tired, my skin dry, and I can't enjoy water related activities.

I'm done with winter before it starts.

Ah, excellent.

When did the furry basket make an appearance?

I have just snuck upstairs (not that anyone is around who might be awakened) to switch on my own electric blanket.
Monday when we change the bedding. But it was purchased along with an electric blanket before we moved in as we were pretty sure it would be cold then!

How cold does it get in Texas?

Lowest recently was around 1°C. It doesn't stay cold that long thankfully. The most annoying thing is that the transition between hot to cold and vice versa has a lot of fluctuation. For months you'll need to dress for both summer and winter on the same day.

Agreed: Or a good chat over a glass of wine or beer.

That works too. I guess it also depends on the subject of the discussion.
Philosophy works well with wine in my opinion.
History needs a cognac.
Science deserves a beer.
And politics... well, you want to mix all of them: First drink, mortal ideological enemies. By the end of the night, we're best friends (again).

Cognac is best (for me) after a long, relaxed dinner.

Wine, beer, or coffee all work well for political (or philosophical) discussions.

Any one else impressed that Apple ships 10s of millions of iphones with 3 cameras each, and all these tiny tech wonders work perfectly with no issues? talk about quality control.

Although Early Voting has already been implemented in Virginia, in my county at first it was only available at the main electoral office in the county administration complex, but starting today it is available at various satellite locations around this fairly large county, which will make it significantly more convenient for voters. My local branch of the public library system is one of those locations, and I am planning to go over there one day this week to cast my ballot. We also have mail-in via the US Postal Service, available but I don't think the county or the state has permitted those additional special strategically-placed drop-in ballot boxes some places are are using. I prefer to cast my vote in person when possible. It will be very convenient going to the library, too, as I can also return a couple of books while I am in there!

Browsing Eisenhower's diaries. Quite a few gems in there.
