I had almost, almost, forgotten how much I actually dislike writing job applications. Turns out it's still something akin to having my teeth pulled. I haven't really had to do it (<- this can't be right..?) in who knows how many years at this point (both the applications and luckily the teeth), so it's quite the chore. Not that I was really any good at it to begin with, but at least there was a certain rhythm there when applying for jobs in the past.

Still, something that needs to be done. There was a time a while back when work seemed to pick up again, even if just a little, but it doesn't look good at the moment, and against all odds I'm getting bored as hell. A bit more discretionary income would be nice too.

It's raining outside, which is nice.
Praying for you man, writing job applications/resumes and going through the process is NOT fun at all.

No, not fun at all.

Best of luck with the resumé writing, and with the job hunt.

Enjoy your new iPad. First thing I was told as I got home was the birds needed feeding. Fortunately they were able to get a bite in before the sun completely disappeared for the evening.

Note to self. If in the future I invent a time machine I need to go back to the start of today so I can get a days work done.
I literally got nothing done today that I needed to.
There are days like that. You’ll catch up, I am sure.

Glad you fed the birds.

Good luck @Mefisto !

Enjoying a lazy day off (A few chores, spending time with mom and maybe following along with a YT art tutorial).

Much appreciated. Interestingly, and contrary to pretty much anyone I've ever discussed this with, I much prefer interviews to the whole "writing, customizing based on the job, proofreading and sending applications, cover letters and such" thing. I have no trouble talking about myself if need be, it's the writing that irks me.

Oh well, luckily I have my trusted mentor, Mr. Lagavulin to inspire me.

Thank you!

Same here! I hate Cover Letters (let's face it: they're useless), and I hate filling those forms that ask the same things over and over and over but in a different format/form that has absolutely no flexibility. Interviews can be fun, depending on the interviewer.

Then you're totally safe.

I doubt it! 8-5 in the day then 8-10 or even later in the evening is becoming the new norm for me.
Three major projects about to start as well which will make me even busier!

Anyway I’ve finished for the evening now. Managed to tick off a few to do’s.

My beer; my bed (the electric blanket has just been put on); my books......and my brother (who burned his hand - second degree burns - a few days ago, while handling a hot handle of a pot while cooking and was treated in hospital today).

Wishing him a speedy recovery. Burns are the worst.
We haven’t put the electric blanket out yet. But I’m thinking on Monday’s bed change that might be a good idea!

I had hoped to hold out until Hallowe'en, before putting on my electric blanket, but, last week, two nights in a row, it took my feet (already encased in socks) ages, well over an hour, to warm up in bed, ad one cannot sleep with cold feet; so, around a week ago, I succumbed.

Re Decent Brother, I phoned tonight for an hour to see how he was getting on, (as last night's phone call when he told me about the accident and his burned hand, was a bit of a shock), wish him well, and to make sure that he had seen medical professionals today, and was feeling somewhat better (mentally, if not physically).

Wow, lots going on for everybody!

What's on my mind? Cars..... This time, with a happy resolution! I have bought a new Honda Civic Sport Hatchback to replace my beloved fifteen-year-old Acura RSX, after spending well over a week wrestling with decisions around, do I get new tires and a couple of repairs done to the old car and hope that nothing goes wrong with her in the next months until maybe spring or summer, or do I not take chances and instead trade her in on a new car now, which would mean that I won't have such worries? With winter coming, peace of mind is always a good thing.....

Peace of mind won the battle, along with a few other considerations, of course, and so today I drove into the local Honda dealership in the Acura and drove home in the Civic Sport Hatchback. I'm tickled silly, of course, but also a bit overwhelmed at all the changes that have been made in automobile technology since 2005..... WOW! Of course one feature that I absolutely wanted in a new car was Apple Play, and now I've got it, and, oh, is it COOOOOOL!!!!!

I'm liking all the new safety features and functions, of course, which in my area, a very busy and congested suburb of Washington, DC, is a good thing to have. The idea of not sticking a key into the car door or into the ignition is still blowing my mind, and that'll take a little adjusting, too, but I do like this a lot!

It was a hard decision but I am very glad that I did go ahead with buying a new vehicle. For me it was the right thing to do at this time.

During the course of moving a few things around in my Loft area, I had to remove books from a book shelf.
To be honest, it has been at least 6 years or so, since I last held and read a book. I have been doing it via a Kindle, since.

But, oddly, after 'touching' and feeling my books from the book shelf, I feel like reading a physical book...

Enjoy your lovely new Honda Civic; it appears that you have acquired a gorgeous car, peace of mind and terrific fun, all at once. Sounds great, and an excellent idea to have bought it before the winter kicked in.

Nothing can compare with the feel of a real book in your hand.

Thanks, SS! I'm still giddy with excitement! It has been a really long time since I have had a new car!

Tee_cup, as a (retired) librarian, I am smiling at your pleasure and surprise when handling your physical books again..... I definitely prefer to have a physical, real book in my hands, either a paperback or a hardcover -- just not the same reading a book on the iPhone or iPad! I don't have a Kindle, never interested and don't need one. You can't take an electronic device into the bathtub with you -- I love to relax in the tub and read -- and I prefer not to take either my iPhone or my iPad to the swimming pool in the summer out of concerns about the heat, someone splashing water on it, or worse, someone stealing it. A physical book from the library or that I have purchased serves the purpose quite nicely.

Honestly, the feeling was weird! I felt almost ashamed for not reading in forever.

Prior to be made redundant, I read books during my lunch break. I’m one of those that like ‘peace and quiet’ when reading. Otherwise, I tend to listen more to what is happening around me. A shame really.

With me being at home now, once these house projects are over, I will re-read a few of my books, or catch up on John Grisham, Patricia Cromwell or James Patterson (Alex Cross), via paperback, versus Kindle...

Whether it is age, (I grew up with books), eyesight, (I wear glasses), love of reading books or newspapers (well, I love the actual act of reading, especially something that is physical, and tangible), I find that I read differently depend on whether I am reading a hard copy, or an online version.

It is not just that I don't physically enjoy the act of reading online quite as much reading fro a real book or paper, or periodical, it is also that I don't "lose myself" in it to anything like the same extent, that I skim, or race through an article, a piece, rather than reading deeply, (or immersing myself in the text or tome), and also - that I find I take in far less information, and retain it a lot less well when I read online - for, I find that I do not remember material I read online half as well as material I read in a hard copy.

This right there, is spot on. Same here!
And, back in the day, I only started reading to help with my vocabulary, grammar and such...

Any one else impressed that Apple ships 10s of millions of iphones with 3 cameras each, and all these tiny tech wonders work perfectly with no issues? talk about quality control.
What always impresses me is although there are issues, how do the delivery services get most everything to where it needs to go so quickly?

Logistics, man. When working correctly it's definitely one of the wonders of the world.

Besides the guys driving the trucks, flying the planes, piloting the ships and loading everything onto said trucks, planes and ships, there's an anthill of people behind the scenes managing the whole process, and often even doing it efficiently. It's all quite impressive, especially at that scale. Can't quite wrap my head around all of it either.
