I miss my M1 MBA. Had to return mine due to crazy memory pressure, beach balls and wonky battery life. Settled on an Intel 2020 MBP for more RAM because I needed a Mac immediately, couldn’t wait 6 weeks for another top spec MBA so... So the MBP is a stopgap machine for me. Grateful to have a Mac right now...

I can definitely see myself buying another M chip MBA, that was the only laptop I’ve truly enjoyed using and the wedge design is great for typing. The Magic Keyboard feels so good on the MBA.

What’s the return date for your MBP? I got a M1 MBP off Amazon last week and the return date is 31st Jan. I just wondering if you could order the M1 with the spec you need and return your intel one?

Work. I was poached by holdings on Friday and I am already dreading having to have a call with my boss tomorrow but they offered me 50 % more money after no raise at my current position in the last 4,5 years so .... kind of their loss.

Thanks.

5-6 weeks out for another 16gb / 1TB M1 Air. I’d be without a machine for at least a week. I could order a base M1 MBA from my local Apple store for two hour delivery (the stock has been replenished), but I need 16gb of RAM. That said, I’ve almost pulled the trigger on another base Air 3x in the past day. If I was still at this job, it would be no problem to own both.

Eventually, I will have an M chip Air.

Amazed at having conservative evangelicals as good friends while I'm a progressive lefty atheist. I guess just avoid politics and religion, though hard to do these days.

Friends can work through those things. If a friendship can't survive a difference of opinions, it's not really a friendship. Just my two cents on that anyways.

Depends on the difference of opinion, and depends on whether such opinions matter deeply to the people involved, and, I suspect, it may also depend on whether the differences of opinion - if enacted in policy - could lead to a deprivation of - or limitation of, or removal or, or reduction of - rights for one party to the friendship.

@Richard8655: I suspect that - were you living your life as a woman, or even, perhaps, as a black man - your capacity (or willingness) to sustain good friendships with conservative evangelicals might be different. In other words, the consequences (in policy) of the differences in opinion, are unlikely to have a material affect on your life.

Political differences work best in friendships where politics is not considered very important in that friendship, and where policies deriving from political positions won't affect the people in the friendship, or when both parties to the friendship are already considered equals, or are working in - or with, or for - a common, neutral, third setting (perhaps abroad, with the military, or with an international body such as the UN, or EU).

Yes, I completely agree. To add, having a common, neutral setting is exactly what works in my situation. We have cycling, HiFi audio, and general outgoing personalities in common. So other strong interests can override significant differences of opinion and in other areas. The key is not to broach those subjects, or at least if so, not in any confrontational way.

But in a way it's a shame not to be able to discuss opposing opinions in avoiding friction, as often sharing different views can be most enlightening and interesting for both sides. But it really comes down to tiptoeing on a very fine line.

How is the job situation working out for you, Kazmac? Have you been able to get a new position to begin working in once the one that you're at now wraps up?
No job yet. This last position ended on December 4th.

Filed for Unemployment this week and am job hunting. The last job hooked me up with an excellent head hunting/job coach service called GetFive.com and I just had my first meeting with them today. Seems like a sold outfit.

I do hope that the outsourcing company that I worked for prior comes through with those previous jobs.

I am seeing myself back at work soon (and got some wonderful advice from the GetFive rep).

I hope you and everyone here are doing well.

Hang in there, Kazmac! Things will work out, and hopefully for the better! Somehow I'd gotten the impression that you were already interviewing for jobs with companies with whom you'd worked earlier..... Sounds as though that hasn't happened yet, but even if the previous outsourcing firm doesn't come through for you, this GetFive.com outfit sounds really good and as though they'll be able to help you land a new job soon! Fingers crossed!

This close to the end of the year is a difficult time to find employment. But come January I’m sure many firms will be hiring.
I wish we would hire a few more. Then I could cut my hours down to less than 50!

It’s Wednesday morning. Working from home for a nice change. So haven’t had to get up at stupid o’clock. I do need to jump on my cross trainer though as my exercise regime has been interrupted somewhat by being in London. I don’t like London. So busy. Takes an age to get anywhere. The first two moles of my trip took over half an hour. Not good when you are driving to Worcestershire.

I wasn't that surprised when the police tried to manufacture a false narrative, shifting blame, and then tried to 'scare' me into admitting fault.

I was surprised that my mother in law would suggest that we just go along with it, and not get any outside advice.

Ah; the very, very, best of luck with that; in common with @Clix Pix, I had assumed that it would be relatively easy to return to your previous employer, - and your previous position, and hadn't realised that you haven't yet been able to do so.

Good luck man. December is a harsh month for job hunting (many fiscal years are Jan-Dec). I highly recommend that you also check the public sector (many fiscal years are Oct-Sept), especially at local level.

Figuring out if i can run a network using an airport, ipad, macbook, bose sound dock, apple tv without the internets.
this is just for music and watching mp4 movie and saving art to the macbook from an ipad.

Everyone, thanks for the kind words re: job hunt.

Visualizing the two sites I worked at for the outsourcing company to open up sooner rather than later as I want to get back there (especially the early morning job). I've been unemployed around this time of year before (three years ago), so I know it's tricky.

Something will come soon.

Good things are already falling into place, but I think I have to use LinkedIn again (Barely used it three years ago)

Also waiting to hear about university, apparently I misunderstood the reapplication form and my degree program is still offered. So I reapplied just before the window shut last week.

Wish I could help mom more than I do (her situation is not changing) and now it doesn't look like we'll be moving in with older sis given older sis's disdain toward caretaking (and her impatience with mom).

So just keeping it together and staying positive. If LinkedIn is the worst of it, then piece of cake.

I hope everyone is well.

Agreed, @yaxomoxay, that December is a rough month for job-hunting. But January - and not simply on account of the financial year, can be quite different.

For what it is worth, @kazmac, I have known quite a few people who return from their Christmas leave - a time of the year in normal years, (not this year, agreed), when they have a bit more time to think, take stock of themselves and take stock of their lives, and mull over things, than might be the case during the normal weekly cycle, or routine, of their lives, and who - after some thought - hand in their notice almost immediately on their return to their place of work in January.
