Now on to something completely different -- Joe the Pigeon

Joe the pigeon was found in a backyard in Melbourne, emaciated and unwell.

He had a leg band identifying him as an illegal immigrant from the US*. As such, Australian law says he has to be euthanased given that he wasn't owned by a US Hollywood celebrity (see Pistol and Boo and here for the rebuttal)

However, it now appears that the leg band was fake, and he really is a local resident. Joe has been given an official reprieve.

* Whether he flew all the way, heaven knows why, he could have come to Sydney instead, or hitched a ride on a ship, is in current discussion.
I don’t understand why he was given a reprieve. Pigeons are the sky rats of society and are best dispatched to a pie.

You sir, have not come across the Bin Chicken --

And no, I don't know what they taste like in a pie...

Not long back from a brief walk, and I also took the opportunity to pick up some multi-seed rye bread I had ordered (and paid for) yesterday, in a local bakery.

Coffee ordered - as I belatedly realised this morning that I run the risk of running out of coffee by mid week (quelle horreur) - and some beer was delivered earlier.

With that head and face only a mother could love and those lovely white feathers your "Bin Chicken" looks a bit like the Wood Storks we have here in Florida! He seems quite at home in the midst of all that trash and rubbish!

Ah, I see that he is actually Australia's White Ibis..... Rather different from the White Ibis here in the US, which are all-white.

It’s been a weird feeling all of this week 1/11.

first week in a longgggggg time where I wasn’t working, wasn’t on vacation, and still being paid (old company had me in a contract where I need to give four weeks notice and once given they give me the ol’ escort out the door but still pay me until the four weeks are done—and that’s when I will start to work for the ‘competitor’).

sister had an issue and finally got her to go to the doctor who then recommended er (where I wanted her to go to begin with). I can’t help but think how everything lined up... if I was still working I probably couldn’t be around to boss her into going and now with the test results we might be looking at something autoimmune—

I really should be prepping for an exam (cfa) soon...

but also having a lot of thoughts as to what I want to do next (despite job already lined up) and what I want to do once this covid settles which who knows how long tbh.

Oh, bravo.

That is an exceedingly impressive talent; cue sound of applause, not least because there isn't an emoji to reflect this.

The first time I do it to a cat that hasn't been out-stared before just breaks their little brains. Usually fixed with a cuddle, a good ear-scratching and a nice tummy-rub.

Also, have you noticed that when you start to tummy-rub a kitty, they stretch out so there is so much more tummy to rub?

I'm getting stir crazy but so many of my friends on Facebook have gotten COVID-19, so it's just not worth going anywhere.

I need a recommendation of a good historical documentary that can be watched on YouTube. Suggestions?

Took an evening stroll since the weather was so nice. Not a soul out and about except for myself and a couple of people walking their dogs, so I did something I've wanted to do for a while now and jumped around a little in the huge piles of snow that have formed here on account of the roads being plowed. Felt like a kid again, so that was nice.

Also earlier today I was on the phone with one of my oldest friends for about three hours. It's amazing how when you've known someone most of your life, in this case 30 years, you can go even close to a year without "proper" contact, and then just basically pick up where you left off like it was yesterday.

Hope everyone had a nice and relaxing weekend.
