Mind-blowing. Literally. I had to pick up pieces of my mind from all over the room and put it back together.

From Gizmodo
"Finnish artist Juho Könkkölä took a single sheet of 68cm x 68cm wafer-thin Wenzhou paper and folded it for fifty hours. The result? A samurai papercraft that is around 20cm tall."

Apart from all the other really amazing skilful parts, I was astounded by him being able to do all the pre-folds at the beginning, apparently from memory.
I also want to know how many failed attempts are in the waste paper bin...

Wondering when the electric power line which was damaged somewhere in my neighborhood will be restored to service so that I’ll have electricity in my entire apartment instead of only on one of the two circuits which serve it...... Thankfully the part which is dark is the bedroom area, while the living room, dining area and kitchen are just fine, so I’m managing without much difficulty. My router is in the bedroom, though, so can’t use the computer but this is precisely one reason why i have iPads with cellular data so that I can still go online regardless of the lack of WiFi.

Just finished binge watching Season 2 of "A Discovery of Witches".

Sometimes a film or book just gives you a scene that is so powerful that it's indescribable.
The first time this happened was watching "Madame Butterfly", when we got to the scene where Butterfly was waiting up all night for Pinkerton to return home, hoping that he will, knowing that he won't. Been there, done that, waiting for a straying loved one to return.

This time it was the scene with Matthew and Elizabeth I, aged and failing, where he comforts her with the knowledge that her reign will be remembered, and that she will be known as the greatest monarch England has ever known, Gloriana.
Not really a spoiler, but the series is worth watching, just for that one scene.

Happy 75th birthday to David Lynch! David, I wish I could rock your haircut...

@Mefisto how do we celebrate?

Thanks for the spoiler tags. About halfway through season two.

And who is David Lynch, might I ask?
:oops::oops::oops::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::oops::oops::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

He's the director of Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet, The Elephant Man, Mulholland Drive, Eraserhead, Dune (1984), Lost Highway, The Straight Story, Wild at heart, and Inland Empire. He's also a painter, a musician, and a big of the meditation movement.

Basically the only "VIP" I actually love as his work changed my life.

Not ony have I never, ever, even seen any of the above, I blush to admit that I have never even heard of some of them.

The first three, yes, and Dune (which I have read) have crossed my awareness, not the others.

Okay, you learn something new everyday. Or, at least, I try to.

Mostly just work and exercise on my mind. Outside of that its mostly sleeping and eating as the other 2 consume about 12-15 hours a day.
That and a horrible dream that has put my daughter on my mind at various points of the day.

I think you would like Mulholland Drive, and Blue Velvet (arguably the first movie that takes the typical happy American town to show what happens behind doors. e.g. rape, violence etc.). The Elephant Man is a true classic that was up for the Oscars. I highly recommend those three.
As for Lost Highway, you might like it or you might hate it. I love it, but it's not for everyone.
The Straight Story is surprisingly a Disney movie, very well made (I think it has a rating of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes) but it's not the typical Lynch movie.
Twin Peaks is a TV series from the 1990's that changed television, then spawned a movie (Fire Walk With Me) in 1992, and then spawned a "Return" series (not a reunion) that has been widely acclaimed as the best thing ever on TV (esp. its Episode 8, which changed TV again).
As for Inland Empire... that's so experimental it's hard to watch even for me 😛

Bad day here myself. I sprained my wrist. I got vertigo, possibly from my heart condition or the weather, and as I was falling I tried to grip something with my right hand. My wrist has been aching when I make a fist or try to hold a phone. I'm grateful I am ambidextrous but it's been a while since I used my left hand this exclusively.

Sorry to hear that. Does sound like the perfect reason to skip the washing up though!

It might surprise you to learn that you've heard him sing before. ;)

It's also a neat coincidence that you mention coffee in the same post; he's known for loving coffee, having his own brand, and writing about characters who love coffee.

Very very true. I purchase his coffee once in a while, it’s very good. An yes, coffee is a staple of his art.

Watch this fun video (no spoilers)

It's not really a spoiler. It's just an exquisitely acted scene. One to look out for. There are consequences/ramifications as a result of it, but I leave it to you to anticipate.

Writing about it reminded me of a Dr Who episode. The Doctor brings the failed, depressed Van Gogh forward in time to see the recognition that he and his art get in later years. Another lump-in-the-throat scene.

Yes, I do have that album, and love it, and frequently listen to it.

The CD listing simply says "Danger Mouse and SparkleHorse", but yes, you are absolutely right, I have indeed heard him sing, I just didn't know it.
