According to the TV Weatherfakers we're in for 6-8" . Nobody out here , too . Got the usual reverse 911 calls from the town last night reminding everyone about getting their cars off the street so the plows can come through . Probably wait until 4PM or so to blow off the driveway and walk . Until then , probably spend the day doing little time waster household jobs I've been putting off .
Hey,givethoseback!Ineedth—oh,no…

This week, it dawned on me that I am running low on ink - the cartridges for my fountain pens, and on the excellent stationary, good paper quality notebooks (Leuchtturm1917, and Rhodia) that I write in.

Thus, I phoned - and then, (because the phone wasn't answered) wrote to - my favourite (old world) stationary store - where I also buy my Mont Blanc pens - a place I haven't managed to visit in over a year, and which is shut on account of Covid, as I am running out of excellent stationary, and of Mont Blanc ink for my pens.

Anyway, to my inexpressible joy, they replied, and said that they head into the (shut), but beautiful shop once a week to send stuff to customers, and will (then proceed to) send me what I need. Bless them.

Thanks to this Ars Technica article:

I now have megafauna on my mind. There was also a recent episode on PBS about the rewilding of Europe, and they showed some things about the reintroduction of the European bison.

Wooly mammoth and giant ground sloths definitely lived around my locality during the last Ice Age. So what's really on my mind is this: What if they were still around?

I could head out to the local forests, plains, canyons, etc. and see some of these big guys roaming around. The ranchers would likely hate them, because they'd probably walk right through fences without a thought. There'd need to be some very large barriers adjacent to roads and highways, to keep these giants off the roadways. There'd still be occasional reports of one wandering onto a highway and causing traffic problems.

And as the Wikipedia article notes, while "megafauna" commonly refers to the Pleistocene mammalian megafauna, I confess that it would be cool to see the giant dragonflies of the Carboniferous. Yes, the bird populations would probably suffer greatly, as would airport traffic, and possibly small pets or children. Anyone flying drones or model aircraft would probably need a few observers keeping an eye out for giant dragonflies, or risk losing their technological toys to an airborne predator.

Staying safe and cozy and warm in my condo apartment.....fortunately it doesn't look as though much else has happened outdoors in the way of additional precipitation but I'm sure the sidewalks and roads are slippery -- not going out to test this!
Not in your new car! Hopefully it will thaw as quickly for you as it did for us. Much warmer (although wetter) for us this week.

Yes, it was not so much warmer, as less cold: Actually, when I headed out earlier today, I realised (or thought) that I didn't need my (black) sheepskin coat (which has been summoned into service these past few weeks, and grateful I am, too, to have it); instead, I donned my more usual black cashmere coat - although, to my surprise, I could feel the cold wind, and cutting breeze...despite overcoat, warm cashmere scarf, cashmere pullover, inside poloneck (turtleneck).....

Perhaps, on second thoughts, the sheepskin coat may be required for a few weeks more...

No way was I venturing out as I didn't need to do so......and definitely even if I had done that, the car would've stayed in position right where she is. The furthest I would've gone is the mailbox kiosk and I figure that the mail can just wait....nothing important that I'm expecting. No need to risk walking on an icy sidewalk, slipping-and-sliding, to get to the mailbox only to find it empty or with some stupid adverts. Not worth the potential scenario of falling and possibly breaking a bone.....

Even though I'm a careful driver and somewhat experienced in driving in snow and ice I haven't done so recently and I sure as heck don't know about the experience of others out there on the road with me! No way I'm taking chances on someone smacking into my beautiful new car because they aren't careful and don't know how to handle winter weather driving! So, yep, staying inside, nice and cozy, both myself and my car safe and sound....

It is supposed to warm up tomorrow and that is soon enough to venture out.

Also stay safe.
Thanks . Got everything cleared off , so far the purveyors of hysteria on the TV were wrong , unless more falls overnight . 4" , a lot less than the 20 we got a few weeks back . Loaded the walk and driveway up with ice melter . So lets see what we wake up to tomorrow .

Just cleaning up my email. Archiving old emails, trawling through Spam to see if there was anything I wanted to keep (yes, 1 message).
But, what really confused me was the message from Labella --
You have received a message from Labella, 34 y.o.:

Subject: Hello, can I kidnap you for mutual pleasure?

Now, I'm sure that Labella, 34 y.o. is a nice person. However, do kidnappers really --
  1. warn their proposed victims beforehand? and
  2. ask for permission?
I'm confused.

It's the "mutual pleasure" bit that would bother me.

Wow.

Too much on the mind, hoping everyone is okay.

Trying to hang on here.

At least, I am drawing again.

🤗 to everyone.

Headed into the (nearby) city for the first time since the week before Christmas; talk about dystopian - it is as though a plague or nuclear bomb hit the place, the streets (on a Friday afternoon) are so deserted, so silent, so empty.

Anyway, masked up, I paid a visit to the best Asian shop in the place (to stock up on Asian necessities), the cheesemonger's, (several cheeses, pâté, pancetta), and the French bakery, where I picked up some French bread that awaited me, and had been kept for me.

And a brand new (but actually open since November, to my considerable surprise) Italian bakery, where I succumbed to the temptation of purchasing some cannoli.

Enjoy the cannoli. Fresh French bread is delicious. Can’t remember the last time I had some. Was it still warm when you collected it?

I gained about 10lbs just by reading this post about all that delicious food!

I wish. Due to weather, lack of water etc. my daily schedule was inexistent this week. It was more of a "try to do X" type of schedule.
I’m still getting in my morning cross trainer, lunchtime walk and other walks in the house. My graphs have gone from appalling to pretty good.

increase started when I got the AW. But it’s since January I’ve been pushing.
